Georgia basketball star Kevin Ware has UGA on his shortlist

Should UGA pursue Kevin Ware?

Kevin Ware had kept a low profile since telling the AJC last Thursday that he was de-committing to Central Florida.

On Tuesday night, the 6-foot-4 guard from Rockdale County High School was active again on his Twitter account and announced “Got my list of schools.”

The world awaited.

Ware tweeted “no order kstate, kansas, uga, ucla, uofl” — which we did our best to translate to Kansas State, Kansas, Georgia, UCLA and Louisville.

However, the next tweet was the most interesting one: “depending on what’s going on at ucf once everything cleared up will determine if there on my list.”

Ware abruptly reneged on his pledge to Central Florida last Thursday after being informed about a pending article in the New York Times that alleged that UCF used a convicted felon with agent ties to recruit him. At the time, Ware told the AJC, “Louisville and Georgia are my [frontrunners]. I just have to talk to the coaches and see if they are still interested in me. I really don’t know where things stand.”

Ware is ranked as the No. 56 college basketball prospect in the nation by Rivals. Ware’s family did confirm to the AJC via a text message on Wednesday morning that the list was accurate.

However, it is unknown if the schools that Ware mentioned on Twitter have reciprocal interest.

UGA’s Mark Fox has signed five players for his 2011 basketball recruiting class but could add one more, if he decided.

Related: Central Florida’s athletic director told the Orlando Sentinel that his school’s compliance office will work with the NCAA and Conference USA to investigate allegations of recruiting infractions. (Click here to read full article)

Now it’s YOUR turn. Make your Kevin Ware prediction.

Let’s see, first UT(okay, coaching change), UCF next, now adding Kansas schools and UCLA to the list, still got UOL (or was that UOFL). I say pass. Like a lot of these kids, too much going on to trust them. Doesn’t sound like one that would stick around for very long.JMHO

Who knows? I trust coach Fox’s judgement. Kinda hard for folks like us to get an accurate read on a kid’s character and judgement based on what we read. I am impressed with the fact that he was loyal to his UT commitment since his sophomore year and never waivered until Pearl was gone. Would like to see another quality guard in this class.

@dawgerbrown, thanks for your comment and … good point. Ware committed to Tennessee as a sophomore in 2009 and you barely heard a peep out of the kid until Volunteers fired Bruce Pearl. To the best of my knowledge, based on the AJC reports and elsewhere, the only mistake that Kevin Ware has allegedly made was being influenced by shady figure allegedly on behalf of Central Florida. Otherwise, this is simply recruiting sweepstakes of a national 100 prospect in May — which is naturally going to generate a lot of attention because of the timing and because almost every other top 100 has signed.

If he’s good – get him. Kids have a hard time making a career/college choice, and they deserve their time in the recruiting limelight. I agree with dawgerbrown… If CMF likes Ware, a good guard is worth the scholly… and I think he would stick at UGA, if that’s the way he goes.

Of course UGA should pursue him unless they think he is truly a problem. There is not enough information that has been made public to properly label him a trouble maker. Any one that does is making uneducated judgements on something they know nothing about. It has been said that this felon pursued and contacted him. Until more info comes out we need keep an open mind and give the kid the benefit of doubt.

Anyone who would twitter to tell me he is making a tentative list of schools he might attend has lost me. Don’t want him at UGA and we sure don’t need him.

I thought I saw on rivals that UGA had 2 scholarships available if they wanted to use them this year. They also offered a former 5 star Point guard who is transferring on NC state and he is from Georgia. With Ware and Robinson gone after this year and Caldwell-Pope possible being a one and done, I think UGA should definitely try to get them both.

Breaking news…..He just committed to Louisville.
No wait, he just decommitted.

He’ll have a new “Top Ten” list by lunch.

Too much drama. Move on, Dawgs.

At this point, I would rather have the transfer Ryan Harrow taking the last scholarship. Harrow fills the need at PG better. Let’s move on from Ware unless Harrow isn’t interested.

“depending on what’s going on at ucf once everything cleared up will determine if there on my list.”

Sounds like he may need to go the JUCO route and work on some basic grammar. Not to mention the fact he changes his mind more than I change my underwear. Speaking of underwear, does anybody know of any good yardsales? I need a few “new” pair.

If you are not all for yourself – pick a school and be done with it..

The release from Tenn. after Pearl I can see, but now it’s either indecision or who is going to offer me more. The steering to UCF, it is begin to look a bit like someone else is making this kids choice for him.

Good luck son… move on Dawgs.

At least he doesn’t have any other SEC schools on his list. Won’t have to play against him. I could go either way on this kid. Just don’t want a basket case to distract CMF from his goals.

Let’s see, signed with Pearl, a first-rate shyster, scumbag who got caught cheating red-handed, and still was arrogant enough to lie about it.

Then the kid commits to a friggin CONVICTED FELON running some sort of scam operation for a po-dunk commuter school in Disneyworld.

This kid has, at worst, a temptation for the wrong side of life, and at best, horrible, horrible judgement of people. Where have his parents been? I think it would be best if Coach Fox had nothing to do with this situation, and he does not seem like the kind of man that Ware gravitates to anyway.

May 4th, 2011
8:18 am

Saw the kid play at Rockdale…..he is Tennessee quality – not sure he would fit with what CMF has planned for his program. I think he ran most of them off when he was hired.

UCF and Kansas are not in the same league…he may have a short list but some of his schools probably don’t have him on their list.

May 4th, 2011

At one time I said “Yeah sign him!” Now I’m not so sure. This kid could be trouble.

May 4th, 2011
8:25 am

Maybe all he needs to “get his mind right” is for Coach Fox to introduce him to the steps at Sanford stadium. It seemed to work for our current crop of Dawg hoopsters. Also, I don’t see anything horrble in his background. I have not heard of any arrests or character issues. He is just undecided on where to attend college. I am sure that being a heavily recruited athlete can really muddy the waters when it comes to choosing a school.

Not sure what it is with this young man…is he a ‘one-and-done’? A potential punk? A true ‘peach’ of a kid that’ll be a credit to the program and to his momma? Whatever…but if he’s good enough I say roll the dice and get as good as UGA can get, even if it’s only for one season before he checks out…assuming he’s not ‘jail-bait’ material. Mark Fox will need to make a big splash with one before he can expect to truly compete for the top players in Georgia.

I’ve got an idea for a name for it ‘We Can Dream Too’.

Give this kid a break guys.

Most HS recruits change schools after a coaching change in NCAA basketball. That is nothing new and there should be no shame on the kid for it. We should be flattered that UGA is mentioning with Louisville as a front runner from day 1.

If UCF has a felon running around doing their recruiting with ties to sports agents then that shame is on UCF. If anything this kid should be applauded for walking away from UCF once he learned who this recruiter really was that was representing UCF.

Your welcome in Athens with open arms young man,

Just get him off the street and into a school atmosphere and he will be a good player for Coach Fox. As for anything else hidden, if Coach signs him, he’s Coach’s responsibility.

This seems to be one of those “dang if you do” or “dang if you don’t”…no one really knows what will happen…Still just an 18 yr old kid that seems not sure what he wants to do. Many on here will say the dawgs should move on, and perhaps they should, but if he has a successful career somewhere else the bashers will be on here saying how the dawgs let another one get out of state….Have to trust Coach Fox’s instincts on this and let him decide how much to pursue this young man…go dawgs

He sounds like a perfect fit for UGA……..character, intelligence & maturity do not matter; all the UGA faithful care about is “can he play?” and “is he a stud athlete?”.

It has been an interesting story regarding the Kevin Ware saga; I sincerely hope this kid ends up in the right place for him and his family……….maybe he is just overwhelmed and a little indecisive (not too hard to believe for a high school kid!). I say good luck to him regardless of where he plays basketball.
