Chris Bolden de-commits from Miami, considering Georgia Tech

Miami’s coaching search is taking too long for Chris Bolden to remain committed to Hurricanes.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard from Norcross High School de-committed from Miami on Monday. The Hurricanes are still looking for a basketball coach to replace Frank Haith, who took the Missouri job on April 4.

“I talked to some of the assistants at Miami and they said they are looking for other jobs,” Bolden told the AJC. “I just thought it would be fair to myself to open it back up and start the recruiting process over again. I wanted to get the word out that I’m looking at new schools.”

Bolden is considered one of the nation’s top pure shooters for college basketball’s 2012 recruiting class. He committed to Miami before the start of his junior season, picking the Hurricanes over Clemson, Louisville, Marquette and Nebraska last October.

Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech will be at Norcross on Wednesday to observe Bolden go through workouts during the NCAA’s “contact period.” Bolden has serious interest in Georgia Tech.

“That would be good if I had the chance to go to Georgia Tech,” Bolden said. “It’s in the ACC and it’s close to home. I don’t necessarily have to stay close to home, but Georgia Tech would be a place that I’m familiar with.”

What are Bolden’s impressions of Tech’s new coach, Brian Gregory? “I haven’t really gotten a chance to learn about him. I will — now that I’m de-committed.”

What about UGA? Bolden said he’s not really interested.

Bolden averaged 15 points as a junior while leading Norcross to the state championship in Georgia’s largest classification. Bolden scored the game-winning points, sinking four consecutive foul shots, in the 59-55 win over Milton in the Class AAAAA finals.

I Believe he knows that UGA doesn’t have a slot to recruit him with right now. Thus “I am really not interested in UGA”, really isn’t that earth shattering a statement. I think he really wants to be as close to home as he can be anyway, from the way he talks. Should be a good catch for Tech. if they can pull it off.

Hey, Bolden, if you aren’t going to stay in school at least three years, we don’t want you at GT. If you are going to bolt after a year, you might as well go ahead on to Miami, since it won’t matter who the head coach is anyway.

Gum Bee,

You are exactly what is wrong with the relatonship between fans of Tech. and UGA. A person will make a point based on knowledge of scholarships available and you go and add some spin to it based on your opinion but not the facts. UGA’s rooster is filled out as of now. Was kind of hoping tech. would get the young man but now I hope he uses some good judgement and picks a school other than Tech. You and a lot of the tech. fans need to get off of your high horse, and be realistic. This next football season will not see a difference in that you once again, get beat by UGA, and once again you will have more excuses than carter has liver pills. Just what percentage of your student atheletes take an engineering course of study anyway? Try to answer this question if you can, using real statistics, to support your answer. How many basketball players do you have that are taking a course of study that leads to an engineering degree? Bet it is a very small percentage if any.

Pompous, what has color television got to do with the significance of national championships? Are you saying that no NC won before the advent of color TV counts? Hmm, tell that to Bama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Army……all those other teams, in addition to Tech, that won NC’s before that time. And as far as 1990, the crystal football sitting in Tech’s Athletic Center speaks for itself; it’s the same crystal football now awarded to the BCS Champion. Enuf said.

North Avenue,

Gosh you must have some insider information for your totally incorrect statement. He was not a member of UGA’s team. I know it is hard for you to understand if you can not solve it by using a slide rule, but, he was a prosepective recruit of about 20 schools, and he was not on an official visit even at UGA. I don’t even think that UGA was leading in the race for his services, but don’t let the facts get in the way.

These blogs about basketball in the state are anything but that…lots of responses that should be dumped.

Back to the topic…would like to hear if Clemson would give it another run…would like to see them pick up a big Georgia recruit since it seems that the 2 biggest programs in the state have no idea how to keep the top kids at home….amazing.

Just shows that UGA has a long way to go to the respect from real blue chip talent.

Basketall is not in UGA’s DNA – but the school is trying to fix that situation. Will take a while and several years of success in order to overcome such a mediocre/poor history.

Woof!
