LSU entered the sweepstakes for one of Georgia’s top prospects at wide receiver, extending an offer to Sandy Creek’s JaQuay Williams on Monday night.

“I’m excited, great school,” Williams told the AJC. He has around a dozen offers, including Auburn, Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia Tech.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder recently won the top award at the 2011 Atlanta MVP Camp attended by many of the state’s top college football prospects.

Williams recently transferred from Heard County High School to Sandy Creek, the Fayette County school which has won back-to-back state championships.

It is hard to understand why UGA is slow to offer so much of the in-state talent. I understand they want to do their “due diligence” and make sure the kids don’t have personal issues or distractions that might not make them a solid choice. However, in today’s culture “ego” and “pride” are big part of how these kids keep score. In some cases, they make it personal if their in-state school is late to offer them.

Guys we can only offer to so many people……

you guys need to understand that uga has a limited number of scholarships to offer this year so you cant just throw an offer to anybody. Off the top of my head I know uga is in pretty good shape for the no.1 wr in s.carolina and well as one of the top juco wr. Cmr wont just throw out offers to anybody thats saban’s philosophy. But again with limited scholarships you have to offer the right guy! Also its only april there is still a long way to go.

UGA has already sent out letters to 9 WR’s in the scouts 300 and he was not listed in their rating. ESPN has him near the bottom of their 300, so it appears he may be a late bloomer. If he continues on his present course and does not have academic issues, maybe UGA will offer him.

Football 365,

You are right, it is still early. I believe UGA is going to fill only 18 scholarships this year according to them, and with 9 receivers already with letters from Georgia, they may feel secure enough, to not offer him. He is probably pretty fast, but might need to put on a few pounds to take hits at the college level.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE STATE SCHOOOL for Georgia? Is UGA the only STATe school? If so,we are in academic trouble. The last I heard,GT as well as Ga Southern, Ga State, etc were state schools so when all you UGA morons keep complaining about kids leaving the state, bear in mind (Do you have one ?),that deserting UGA does not constitute turning a back on the state of Georgia !!

dr nick calm down its really not that serious. Uga is the flagship school in the state of georgia whether you like it or not. Its nothin against ga southern or ga state but it is what it is. Its to early to get all worked up go eat some breakfast and relax its okay!

UGA will offer once he achieves a qualifying test score and gets his grades in order.

Hey NHGamecock, will he find him a spot just like the two kids this year that got their offer pulled at the last minute?

UGA will offer once he get his academics in order is a bunch of bologna. Excuses , because they offered Caleb King , Jalen Fields , Lonnie Outlaw , Washaun Ealey, and etc. So don’t say they will offer once the kid get his academics in order, just say once he move up in the ranks they will offer. You have to be a 4 or 5 star or the top player in your state to get a offer from UGA.

His grades are a question, test scores????? Trasfered from rural Heard Co. His dedication on the field does not hold true in the class room. Hope he picks it up, I believe he would be an Auburn lean.

Give UGA some time. It can take a while to evaluate film and grades…… add to the fact that he may not fit into their system, or maybe they saw or know something we dont know. And some schools just play follow the leader, offering a kid only because other schools have

UGA has not offered because the kid doesn’t have the grades as of right now. When you have limited numbers this year the last thing you want to do is tie up a scholarship only for the kid to committ and not have the grades. If this happens you lose ou to on other targets.

Question

Other schools have offered this guy. Are UGA fans just saying it’s a grades issue because they haven’t offered? Is that their way of justifying UGA’s non-interest in a top WR?

Yea right NHGamecock. I guess that place would be in Louisville.

Question…… we have only so many ships to offer. We’re not like Bama and South Carolina and few other teams. We don’t offer them to every kid in the country and snatch them away at the last second.

Steven please tell me you are kidding when you say UGA will offer him when he gets his grades in order. There is a reason UGA has an above 90% special admit rate for football.

BYRDDAWG and look at how UGA chose to deal with Calvin Johnson.

Just relax. UGA has their eyes on JaQuay as well as some other top caliber receivers. UGA has already landed CJ Curry which is a very talented and underated WR. Check out the recent videos on Rivals of CJ Curry from the VTO. Then tell me which guy you would prefer….Curry, Reeding, Anderson or JaQuay Williams. UGA has already chose and it looks to be a good one…….

Old Gold,

What I am saying is UGA has already offered to nine other wide receivers. Maybe they feel sure enough about getting the number they want to recruit this year without having to offer anymore wide receivers. Simple enough for you to understand now?

BYRDDAWG,

That receiver from Sandy Creek that went 0-3 against the pugs could buy you. Yes, you. Although you probably aren’t worth much, even you get what I mean. YOU did nothing against him in any game did you? I’d say he’s okay that some jackweed that goes by the name BYRDDAWG on a blog can feel better about himself because his wittle football team won some games.

Why has UGA not offered Dalvin Tomlinson: !) Great work ethic: State Wrestling Champion 2) Must be a very good FB Player since he was MV Defensive Lineman in the recent Ga VTO Camp 3) Offered by many top programs in the US 4) Very well spoken and articulate 5) Heard he has been a UGA Fan in the past 6) Is UGA waiting for him to do something else special????
