Florida gets another Georgian with commitment from DE Quinteze Williams (UPDATED)

Florida continued to find recruiting success in Metro Atlanta on Wednesday when it landed a commitment from one of the state’s best players.

Quinteze Williams, a two-way lineman for Class AAA state champion Sandy Creek in Tyrone, committed to the Gators around lunchtime on Monday. Williams picked the Gators from an offer sheet that included more than a dozen schools, including Georgia and Georgia Tech. He was rapidly developing into one of the most sought-after prospects in the metro area.

“We just liked it,” Ellis Williams, Quinteze’s father, said of choosing Florida. “We feel like the atmosphere there is right for him. We liked the schemes and feel like the staff down there is just unmatched. [Sandy Creek] Coach [Chip] Walker has had a long relationship with Coach [Will] Muschamp. He says he’s a great guy and recommended him as a person who could guide my son as far as becoming a man and a great football player.”

Willams (6-4.5, 254) was recruited by the Gators to play defensive end. He has also received recruiting interest as an offensive tackle and a defensive tackle. Analysts at the Atlanta MVP Camp in Hampton this past weekend raved about Williams’ abilities as a blocker.

As for the early decision Mr. Williams said he and his son, “wanted to go ahead and get [recruiting] over with so Quinteze can focus on what he needs to.” He said the plan is for Quinteze to graduate early and enter Florida as a midyear enrollee.

There also was the matter of making sure Quinteze had a spot on the Gators’ roster.

Originally, the Williams had planned on committing in person this weekend when they travel to Gainesville for a visit. But after attending the MVP Camp at Lovejoy this past Saturday and hearing of all the offers Florida had extended, they decided they probably shouldn’t wait and stand a chance of losing out on the opportunity.

“I wanted to secure my spot before another defensive end because it’s a school I really wanted to go to,” Williams said. “I really hit it off with Coach T-Rob (assistant coach Travaris Robinson). And Coach Muschamp is from Rome, Ga., and he’s a good friend of my coach. That kind of influenced me because I know how I feel about Coach Walker and he gave me the scoop on how Coach Muschamp coaches and what type of fellow he is. So that made me feel good about it.”

Williams also seriously considered Auburn and Tennessee. As for the two in-state universities, Ellis Williams said his son did not feel as wanted by them as they did by Florida and some other programs.

“Georgia Tech, they offered, but it was just an offer, you know?,” Mr. Williams said. “They never really showed a lot of interest beyond that. Georgia approached us early on but they wanted him as an offensive lineman. They recently came forth with an offer as a defensive lineman, a couple of weeks ago. But they didn’t really show a lot of interest either and we were already leaning another way at that point.

“At the end of the day, you like who likes you.”

Early on in the recruiting process it looked like Williams may be headed to The Plains to play for Auburn. “But Tracy Rocker leaving was a big loss for them,” Mr. Williams said.

Florida is hitting the metro area hard this under Muschamp, a Georgia native and UGA graduate. Williams is the third Peach state commitment for the Gators’ 2012 recruiting class. They did not sign a single player from the state this past February.

Williams doesn’t know about all that or care. He’s just glad to know he’s going to be a Gator.

“It’s kind of a release and a happy feeling,” said Williams, who will visit Florida again this weekend and the next for the spring game. “I’m relieved because this recruiting thing is finally going to be coming to an end before the start of my senior. And I’m just happy because I know I have a place where I know I want to spend the next four years of my life. I think I made a good decxision.

Congrats to the young man.

This is going to be a trend this year. In a few mins there will be digruntled Dawg fans and haters alike who will say UGA has lost all control of the in-state recruiting, blah, blah, blah…..

But I dare say MANY kids will look at the class UGA signed last year and will see playing time more likely elsewhere.

Congrats, again, even though I hope you don’t win a single game in college.

Go Dawgs!

Lot’s and lot’s of players……Congrats to him. If no limit, Dawgs could sign 45-50 Georgia blue chippers. Surprising Gators working Georgia this hard with the talent pool down there. It’s 3 to 1 in Florida for pickings. Maybe FSU is creaming the best and Muschamp having to look elsewhere?

Meyer basically got a pass last year for losing 5 games before he decided to resign before being ask to. Wonder if Muschamp loses 5 what the mood will be? New coach, new system could get interesting? Most Gators on here staying in the swamp.

Coach Muschamp better start minding his new home territory. You risk alienating the local high schools at your own peril. Florida is one of the few schools that doesn’t need to come talent poaching in the Peach state.

Don’t know how Muschamp will fare as a head coach, but you guys would be wise not to poke the bear in Charlie Weis. He may not have been a good head coach at the college level, but the guy is a great offensive coordinator. The Gators ALWAYS have enough talent to go around, and it may not take long for them to be a great program again, especially with high-quality guys like Quinteze around.

UF is in GREAt shape with the Top 2 DB and S instate. Many of the instate kids are taking their time and Muschamp will respect the process but he’s not going to wait on NSD for many other than Theus, McCord, Fowler(FSU)and few others. Out of the 8 commits so far 4-5 are planning to enroll early so that has a big part to do with it. He wants 10-12 early kids so he can backcount and get them in early. He addressing needs first with these commitments(OL,DL,RB). Its easy to sell UF as a program and with a coaching staff like Muschamp,Quinn(NFL exp),Bryant Young(NFL HOF) this is going to be a Top 3 class for UF.

It does suck losing a kid that could be this talented, but it sounds like his dad was liking Florida for awhile now. It just sucks that they bring the “You like who likes you” thing or the “they offered too late” thing into it every time another kid commits somewhere else. If he really wants to play d-line, and we recently discussed that with him, our offer is just as good as theirs. The “born on” date for an offer shouldn’t be as important to kids as the fact that with Georgia (unlike many schools) there is no “expiration date” on an offer.

The state of Florida is 2 times the size of Georgia as far as population and Florida has commits from 3 Georgia boys. Two are 3 stars and one not rated. You know Florida will probably sign close to 30 players in 2012. These kids are smart going ahead and committing because Muschamp will probably not take any more from Georgia or he risk alienating and ticking off a lot of Florida high school coaches. The more Florida coaches that don’t get their players in at Florida because there are no more scholarships available the better we are when we go recruiting the 4 and 5 stars down there.
Muschamp is making a statement saying he can come into Georgia and get players any time he want to. This little ploy could end up back firing on Muschamp.

the most important part of this story, and read it carefully Bulldogs fans:

“At the end of the day, D1 is D1,” he said. “They all have facilities and academics and tradition and that kind of thing. But at the end of the day, who am I handing my boy over to to become a MAN, to finish his polishing? And I just felt like Coach Muschamp was the BEST person for that.” – Ellis Williams

The father of this kid hit the nail on the head. He is sending his son to a coach that will polish him and make him into a man. Mark Richt is a fraud and lie and the sooner Georgia fans wake up to that fact the sooner a national championship can be talked about in Athens….all the talk in Athens is about arrests and lost games and players being promised starting spots and they aren’t even on campus. Mark Richt is stealing Georgia’s money.

If Ellis Williams puts Muschamp ahead of Richt and Fisher then you have to question his son’s intelligence also. Muschamp doesn’t deserve to be in the same category as Fisher and Richt . The only reason Dooley is not ahead of Muschamp is because he hasn’t earned that respect either. Maybe is 10 years but Muschamp and Dooley has a lot to prove if they want to be mentioned with Fisher and Richt

Some of these replies are just madness. They are so funny its good times. UGA has offered Mann and Williams but they are UGA rejects? Bwahahahaha What world do some of you live in? I love the concern for Florida’s instate recruiting too LOL Yeah I am sure that is not sincere rather hating Florida having a coach that can make regular trips into GA to take big time talent.

For those worried about Florida’s recruiting of Florida, the Gators stand a good chance to land a big chunk of the state’s top 25 prospects amongst other big time players. Muschamp and this staff are filling needs. OLs and DLs are big needs. The staff is landing big time talent at areas of need. They are doing a phenomenal job of recruiting Florida and Georgia and its paying off.

I am sure UGA will have a talent rich class as always but some of these replies are such jokes especially if the people posting them believe them.

The OOS commits atp were in the top 15 on the OOS board so they were takes. Muschamp was wise not taking extra kids last year just to fill-up a class. Now he has UGA, FSU and Aub in a numbers game. Muschamp is a great recruiter, and he will sign 28 to 30 kids. Most will be from Florida, with a selected talented group from out of state. Muschamp targeted this kid as soon as he arrived in Gainesville because he thought he was extremely athletic and full of potential on both sides of the ball….but I think he he become a great DE at Florida. For you metro folks…Mack Brown broke his leg in practice the other day….but it is a minor leg bone and he will be back for fall practice. Too bad…as it was his time to step up with Demps running track, Gilleslie hurt, and Blakely not in school yet.
