Even Mark Richt could not hide his excitement about this one.
In the middle of addressing the crowd of fans gathered at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall Wednesday, he got a text. He immediately held up his phone and exclaimed: “Malcolm Mitchell is a Dog!”
Much barking ensued.
Mitchell is indeed one of the stars in Georgia’s 2011 class. And an unexpected one. Most projected that he’d sign with Alabama, which led his recruitment for most of the last few months. But he committed to the Bulldogs on Jan. 20 in Valdosta, a couple of hours after his teammate Jay Rome did the same.
Mitchell is arguably the best pure athlete in the state this year. He ranks No. 6 in the AJC Fab 50. He was expected to play cornerback in college but more likely will play offense now after catching 77 passes for 1,419 yards at Valdosta this past season.

Obviously I am a Lowndes fan. But I watched Malcolm Mitchell and marveled over how good he is, for four years. I am sooooo glad is is a Dawg, and finally playing for someone I can cheer for. Along with Jay Rome, UGA just got better. And I mean a lot better!

Let’s git ‘er done !!!
Great recruiting job up in Athens, guys. Now let’s see some coaching
in the years to come, puh-leeze.
AJC folks – you have done good work too during the recruiting season.
Most folks appreciate objective, “just the facts, Ma’am”, instead of the
editorial comment that comes from a couple of other writers who will
remain unnamed. I’m sure they will start up soon enuff, however.
Hope Caleb has dropped by the classroom just in case Crowell signs
with Alabam.

Malcom Mitchell is, by far, the most exciting and most gifted players I’ve ever seen at Valdosta High. UGA has a great one with this addition. He is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. I’ve seen him play on both sides and he is just as dominant on either side. Go Dawgs!!!!

I must admit things are looking better despite the truly poor football year.
1. No one has been arrested in a while
2. Great class 2011 signed
3. New Strength and Conditioning has to help BIGTIME
4. Grantham’s D did look better and will be even better next year
5. Murray and Lemay will compete fiercely which will only help both.
6. New offensive line coach certainly cant hurt.
Bobo is a year older and maybe a tiny bit smarter? We did score a lot of points last year.
Lot of things to look forward to. GO DAWGS
Also hats off to Loundes25 He was correct on most of his predictions!

Bama’s biggest hit by far and I think Georgia’s biggest get by far. Well done Dogs.
Interesting the Cyrus circus….hope the Tide wins that one.
