Georgia State adds two, loses two in 2011 class

Georgia State was unable to get through its second national signing day without a couple of disappoints as two of the Panthers’ commitments ended up signing with other schools.

Quarterback Imonni Carswell (6-2, 180) of Plantation, Fla., signed with Tennessee State and defensive lineman Jakari Kinnie (6-2, 320) of Gadsden, Ala., signed with Jacksonville State.

However, the Panthers did get the LOIs of DE Roderick Thompson (6-4, 230) and offensive lineman David Huey (6-3, 265). And the one for DB DEmazio Skelton of Georgia Military is reportedly on its way.

I was puzzled why we were going after Carswell in the first place when we were signing Ben McLane. However, Jakari Kinnie was the recruit I was really looking forward to. Oh well.

Unfortunate that we lost on Jakari, but am very excited about Roderick and Demazio.

Really disappointed in Kinnie going elsewhere, but can’t fault him for staying in Alabama.

I’d like to think our in-state kids would do the same if it were between us and Jax State.

Disappointing he stayed in Alabama nonetheless. Its not like Jacks State has much of anything to offer. He could have played sooner at GA State and gotten a much better education. Who knows what made his decision for him though. Best of luck to the young man.

You mean this whole football program wasn’t a joke? Will will the Ga. State alumni learn that in the football world the REAL “GSU” will always be located down I-16 in Statesboro. Good luck with this joke of a program though.

On the AJC signing day page, I see pictures of Coaches Richt, Johnson, and Curry. No love for Ga. Southern’s program? Did the AJC forget, or does Ga. Southern’s 6 championships not mean anything after all?

Or is the real GSU in downtown Atlanta after all?

Stay classy, Statesboring.

@ hollafoadolla

Lets see, Jacksonville State can offer Mr. Kinnie a great education on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country, something quite a few students from Georgia seem to appreciate. He also has a chance to play this season at JSU, along with the rest of the best recruiting class the Gamecocks have ever had. Who knows, they may even make the FCS playoffs like they did last year. Feel free to come over in September and you can see Mr. Kinnie in person.

Southern is a joke. If you think anybody cares about your program you are mistaken. The only reason people even go to the games down there is because there is nothing else to do! Id go out of boredom too if I lived down there….

@GSU FAN, you are a bigger man than me. I can hardly stand to drive on I-16 for an hour before I start getting suicidal. I hate to think of what it’s actually like to live there…
