The Georgia Bulldogs pulled off their first coup of the 2011 recruiting season when they received the scholarship papers of Kent Turene late Wednesday morning.
Turene, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker from Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., was a longtime Southern Cal commitment who decided late in the process to visit UGA. He loved his Jan. 21-22 visit and, after visiting Texas Tech this past weekend, decommitted to the Trojans. He also considered Nebraska before inking with the Bulldogs.
ESPN rates Turene as a four-star prospect. He had more than 40 scholarship offers.

this guy plays nasty. saw some film of him. looks like he takes coaching well. always in a great stance, takes good angles, and finishes tackles with authority. we will definitely like him. got a real good LB attitude.

Losing Pagan is not as bad as losing out on Turene. Next years Georgia class loaded with D-Line talent, we need linebacker help now. Turene has huge upside due to size and speed.

Getting both Turene and Pagan would’ve been like stealing. Both had committed to other schools and we would have been lucky to get either of them and odds were we’d get neither. Fact that we got one is a coup. Way to go Georgia coaching staff and Coach Richt. Go ‘Dawgs!

Sweet! Welcome aboard Kent!
And Gabe Wright isn’t coming to UGA. Honesly, I’m not so sure we want him. I haven’t liked what I’ve seen him say in the press. Me thinks he lacks the heart and mind of a champion. UGA has had too many of those types the past few years.

Pagan's knees

Losing Pagan is no blow to UGA. We have that early UGA commit kid from Griffin and few others, like Ray Drew. No, Pagan’s knees scare me. They will take another year of safe, solid rehab ………. then maybe he plays in two more years.
We needed that Tureen kid at LB and we need John Jenkins. If Crowell comes on board, he and Washuan will be fine in the backfield along with Boo Malcomb. Caleb King can leave right now ……………..who needs him?
One thing about Ealey ………….if we do land Crowell, Ealey will be working very, very hard to build up his speed and his leg strength and blocking ability. He will have to compete in his Junior year, IF he wants to try the NFL. He has to play hard this year. He needs a good year more than UGA needs him.

Great signing day in Georgia. I’m impressed with the 24 players we have and i hope we can lock up 2-3 more beasts for UGA. Crowell, Jenkins and Gabe, now that would be a GREAT surprise.

I don’t think Pagan would have been able to help out the DAWGS all that much to be truthful. I am not sure he has the heart to commit fully and his knee problem bothers me. I think if we get J. Jenkins, Pagan will not even be considered a loss for UGA. Hope the kid made the right decision for himself, since he bounced around so much just trying to decide where he wanted to sign.

IMHO Kent Turene was one of the biggest gets of the day. Coach Todd Grantham now has the body sizes he needs to make the 3-4 work. If I’m not mistaken, Turene played in a 3-4 in high school. As much as I loved Justin Houston, I think with the LBs we have now, he will soon be forgotten.

@ Red Dog 77, I completely agree with you about Turene. I think he and Marshall are the two most overlooked kids of this class. Another thing that I liked was on the Rivals Show, you could tell Coach Richt REALLY likes Turene. He sees the same thing we see when we watch film, the kid is big and he brings that big body with an attitude, and whatever he hits goes down. Marshall would be a top 20 recruit in the Country if he played at a big school. I think too many people are worried about the fact that he played in a low classification. It doesn’t take a genius to see this kid’s ball skills. He will be special. UGA has done really well instate with low classification kids over the years; Herschel, Garrison Hearst, Champ and Boss Bailey all came from small schools and I think they were O.K. GO DAWGS!!!
