NG John Jenkins heard Ray Drew’s call but won’t give answer until Saturday

John Jenkins was on an official visit at Florida all weekend. Nevertheless, he said he heard Ray Drew’s “Call of the Dogs” loud and clear all the way down in Gator County.

“Yeah, I heard about it, but I haven’t seen it yet,” said the 6-foot-4, 340-pound junior college nose guard, shortly after returning to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College late Sunday night. “I’m about to go online and find the video and look at it now. I hear it was pretty good. I can’t wait to see it.”

Drew and Jenkins bonded three weeks ago when they both visited Miami and each came away stating they’d like to play together in college. We have since learned that Drew was already a heavy UGA lean at that point.

Then Drew offered an impassioned plea this past Friday for Jenkins and several other frontline recruits to join him at Georgia as part of the “Dream Team” recruiting class.

“I heard the call and I’ve given an answer,” Drew said. “Isaiah Crowell, we’re waiting on you; Antonio Richardson, we’re waiting on you; John Jenkins, we’re waiting on you; and Jeoffrey Pagan, we’re waiting on you. Come join what we have put together as ‘the Dream Team.’ A dream is only a dream until you make it reality.”

But does that really make a difference to Jenkins?

“Yeah, I mean, it does in a sense,” he said. “I mean, Reay is somebody I know and like and respect. But at the end of the day each of us is our own man and we have to do what’s best for us.”

Regardless, we’re not going to find out any time soon. Jenkins still plans to unveil his decision between the Bulldogs, Auburn, Florida and Miami, next Saturday at Maloney High School in his hometown of Meriden, Conn.

In case you haven’t noticed, that will be three days after national signing day. But Jenkins wanted to have his signing ceremony at home with friends and family.

“Yep, that’s the plan right now,” Jenkins said.

So how does he plan to spend Wednesday as thousands of other college prospects put their names on the dotted line?

“I’m just going to watch and observe and see how it comes down,” he said. “I’ve never been through it before, so I want to see where everybody goes and how they handle it.”

In the meantime, the 48 hours Jenkins spent in Gainesville got his attention. The Gators and new coach Will Muschamp came in on him late but managed to convince him to give them his final official visit.

“It was straight; it was straight; a great visit, ” he said. “Everything about it was good. It was a lot cooler than I thought it’d be. I met some guys there from Connecticut and they said some more were on the way. So I liked that.”

The Gators have a couple of Connecticut natives on the current roster and at least one commitment from the state.

As for the actual decision, Jenkins said he was going to try to take advantage of the recruiting dead period by getting off by himself to contemplate the situation.

“The grace of God, that’s my only answer,” he said. “He’s going to bless me with a good choice. He’s going to deliver it to me through my family. I’m just going to give it all to God and let him show me the way.”

If Mark Richt loses this one, he’s got two choices, find a nose, or go back to the 4-3. Another year of the same will see him looking for a job.

By waiting until after NSD if he doesn’t chose the DAWG’s it will hurt us the most because it is such a critical piece of our new defense that is needed and we will not have an opportunity to replace him with anyone else out of the JUCO ranks. All other NG’s that we would have considered would have already been signed.

Heck, by Saturday the Bamer Gray Tide should be up to about 40 commitments! That should discourage him some. He won’t be as valueable to Fla as to UGA. And, UGA is the only team he is considering where he can make his national debut in the only game being played that day (Boise St.) only national TV. This will be interesting to see what kind of early impact Ray Drew might possibly have as a leader, even as an incoming freshman.

UGA may be under investigation for the local sports writers organizing these “press” conferences at these kids high schools. This is nothing more than publicity for them in exchange for their committment. Even some of these goobs on sports radio claim to be helping recruit. NCAA rules state you can only have a certain number of recruiters on staff. This will get interesting.

It’s getting pretty funny how Auburn fans, yes Auburn, is now saying UGA is “cheating” to get recruits. The same Auburn that rented Cam. Regardless of the weak NCAA “investigation”, we all know what happened on the plains.

Jenkins has told the coaches he’s coming or not coming already….On Wednesday you’ll know…if UGA signs 27 on Wednesday, then they are holding a spot for him, if it’s 28, then they are full and he chose another school.

I would say we won’t know about the OL coach until well after signing day for Richt is concentrating on recruiting in which he should be. Pretty impressive though we still have a shot at Richardson and don’t even have a OL coach.

I am not sure on him. I don’t think it is a long shot because if he wants to keep coaching I don’t think he will ever be a head coach again with his age.

I also think it is to late in the game for someone to pick him up for OC job. I am just not sure if Richt would put Bobo in that situation. Wouldn’t be good for him.

go to the website “hedgestohardwood.blogspot.com” and they have the complete video for you to watch.
Roaddog80
If you look up the scouts 300 website, you will see just about every player Georgia offered to.
On another note, I suspect we will not know who the new OL is until after national signing day. I am pretty sure they have one in mind but they had to post the opening under NCAA rules and probably, the fair employment act.

Auburn is not complaining about your class. The funny part is the Dream Team even with the uncommittted ones figured in will still be behind three other SEC schools, Auburn, Alabama, LSU. Sorry but its the truth.

As far as possible violations, go back and read Drew’s article. Pollack and Godfrey talk about calling him and giving him advice. Sorry but Pollack and Godfrey are boosters, they are not allowed to have contact with a recruit. That is the rule.

Baloney,

The school organizes the presser for the recruit. It is usually held at the school right? The press attends, they don’t organize.

It is ok to be a hater of the Dawgs.

@naga(dawg – lol i love it)

I was catching up with the weekend blogs and saw where you and another dawg fan got in a friendly little debate about who had the better DB’s in this years class. I don’t really know too much about the specifics about our DB’s and FSU’s except than they are all supposed to be good at the next level. But I do know this. During the under armour that safety that commited to you guys was the best football player on the field hands down. Yes, better than Clowney and Crowel and pretty much any other player. At least in this ameture’s eyes he was.
