Nation’s No. 4-ranked DE Jeoffrey Pagan de-commits from Clemson, favors Georgia

One of the nation’s top-ranked defensive ends confirmed to the AJC on late Thursday night that he is no longer committed to Clemson, and now favoring Georgia.

It was a brief conversation with Jeoffrey Pagan, the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder from Asheville, N.C. who is ranked as the county’s No. 4 strongside defensive end by Rivals. Pagan was publicly leaning to Georgia earlier this month, but committed to Clemson while he was on an official visit with the Tigers on Jan. 16.

For starters — and most importantly — Pagan cleared up any confusion about whether or not he was still committed to Clemson on Thursday. “I’m not committed anymore,” he said.

Secondly, Pagan was asked if he was favoring Georgia. “Oh yes, I’m excited about Georgia.”

Pagan then said he had to go because he was on the other line (presumably with college coaches). However, we threw him one last question: What about the rumors that he has already secretly committed to Georgia? Pagan paused for a moment, and then simply said, “Naw, no rumors …

“I’m sorry, I have to go, I’m real busy. I will talk more at another time.”

Pagan originally committed to the Florida Gators last April, but backed off it in November after Florida’s defensive line coach was hired away by another school. Alabama, Tennessee and Florida (again) are some of the other colleges that Pagan has mentioned within the last month.

Pagan also suffered a season-ending knee injury during his senior year of high school football, and is still recovering from surgery.

This kid is playing it to the max. He just stated this week he was overwhelmed at Alabama, then he was still a Clemson Tiger, then now reported he likes Georgia.

This kid may other issues besides who he is gonna commit to.

I would not hold my breath folks.

CMR and CMB are quality, honest, hard working coaches who represent the university well. As true dawg fans they deserve our support. If you haven’t seen them deal with young men first hand give them a little support before being so critical of their efforts.

@ naganole, Are the Noles going to get Steward or is he Clemson bound? The people there seem to think he really likes Clemson.

@ dawg fans, Kent Turene is more than likely going to sign with either Texas Tech or Georgia. I hate to wish a bad trip on a kid, but that’s exactly what I’m doing on his excursion to Lubbock. While he liked the idea of playing for Monte Kiffin, he seems to have been educated on the sanctions and he feels that he can play quickly at UGA or TT which is very important to him.

FYI,

The “Dream Team” is only those from the state of Georgia, representing the state of Georgia.

Call it a recruitment gimmick all you want… but go ask these kids if they like the idea…. and it’s quite a popular concept.

In 2-4 years, we will all look back and congratulate the geniusness of whoever in the UGA brainstorming session came up with it.

GO DAWGS!!!!

@ sandman053 From the film I’ve seen on Turene, you can always find a spot for a kid who tackles and finishes plays the way he does. The enthusiasm he plays with on D is as good as I’ve seen from any linebacker in this class. You can tell he enjoys the game. With attrition and the need for extra linebackers in the 3/4, we absolutely have a spot for Turene. Ask yourself the same question you just asked me. Wouldn’t it be a nice problem for us to have rather than the alternative?
