Georgia gets commitment from Isaiah Crowell’s teammate Quintavious Harrow

Quintavious Harrow committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday. Harrow is a close friend and teammate of the state’s No. 1 prospect, running back Isaiah Crowell. Georgia offered him the scholarship just last week.

“They’re where my heart led me to,” said Harrow, who said he picked up the phone and called coach Mark Richt about 2 p.m. Wednesday. “I prayed to God about and I feel like it’s the right choice for me.”

Harrow said Georgia has been recruiting him for “a long time” but just offered him last week after he obtained a qualifying test score on the ACT.

“He felt like it was the best situation for him and he felt comfortable doing it today,” Carver-Columbus coach Dell McGee said. “Coach Richt was really happy and pleased about it after they talked on the phone. [Richt] said he was going to take good care of him, off and on the football field. We’re just happy for Quintavious.”

Harrow (6-0, 185)  is expected to play defensive back at Georgia. He played the “pony” position, a kind of linebacker/safety hybrid, in Carver’s 3-5-3 defense last season. Harrow was timed at 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the Scout Showcase combine in Atlanta last summer. He also attended UGA’s Dawg Night camp.

“He’s got a lot of upside and potential that can be nourished and developed at Georgia,” McGee said. “Hopefully, he can develop into a great football player on and off the football field. Most importantly, he can get a free college education.”

Georgia was Harrow’s only offer. However, he did recently visit Georgia Military College, a junior college in Milledgeville.

Harrow will be making an official visit to Athens this weekend along with Crowell.

“Isaiah was happy for Quintavious that he is getting the opportunity to continue his education on next level,” McGee said.

Neither Harrow nor Crowell could be reached for comment, but I’ll keep trying.

Could be another Tim Jennings type that no one else really recruited but turned out to be a solid player for us, and is even now doing well in the NFL.

Hopefully his friend will come with him to Athens. There’s a good opportunity for early playing time, especially at the RB position.

JMar: It’s on the edge, kind of a cross between a linebacker and defensive back. On one side of the field with pass/run responsibility.

This is also another good way to establish a relationship that was damaged from last year’s debacle. Even if we don’t get Crowell, the fact that we are collecting Carver alums is essential to future prospects.

Welcome Harrow ! You are now a Dawg for life! Listen, study, workout, stay away from the things and people who will get you distracted from your priorities or in trouble and your future is set for life. You are coming to a great place and will play for a great man who will prepare you well for the rest of your life. I am so excited for you Howell, you did not have an offer from anyone and now you are going to UGA!!! and likely with your good friend……WOW! Good for you, good for you! Great story! I hope you become all-SEC! You can do it…

The University of Alabama is where M M will become a star if he does the right things , auight , and continues to grow as a football player and a person. He is a nice pickup for us . I can’t mention him by name because it’s an NCAA violation auight.

Crowell will not go to Alabama because Trent Richardson is still there and they have 2 other running backs commited to them.Dee Hart of Dr. Phillips here in Orlando who was in the Army all-star game and commited will get playing time as a freshmen.Crowell will not want all that competition.I’m more wooried about Crowell going to Auburn.

I think Crowell’s coach likes to steer his players out of the area and AU is only 30-40 minutes away so hope that helps UGA

I say put Cootie in the weight room and try him at OLB. Good tackling and speed. He won’t see the field at safety behind Ogletree, Rambo, Sanders, Moore, etc.

Crowell is UGA at heart but worried about Richt not being there for his stay due to all the extremist calling for Richt to be fired. And the pressure of being a savior for a school/coach and what attention that would bring if he does not come out the gate tearing up defenses in his first year.

Auburn has lots of RBs also. Crowell will get lots of playing time if he commits to UGA and will probably be the starter by the 3rd game. Harrow will probably develop into a big time CB and change a lot of peoples opinion about himself. Good to get a commit from someone that really wants to be a Dawg. Great to have you on the team. Now, let’s focus and get ready to play some solid football. We should be more concerned with Jenkins instead of the rest of the players.

Well, with that size/speed ratio and Dell McGee being an excellent coach – and McGee vouches for his ability to be a Division I football player – maybe he is a legitimate prospect. Although he is the sort that programs generally encourage to walk-on. I’m just mystified that not even the I-AA schools like Alabama A&M and Savannah State are after him.

That said, it looks like his position in the 3-5-3 defense is similar to the Troy Polamalu position in the 3-4 defense. (Of course, if he has the explosiveness and reaction time of Polamalu or anywhere close … let’s just say that I’d like to see it first.) It is plausible, but you still have to wonder about this kid getting a scholarship and a 4 star recruit like Avery Walls not getting one. I am of the opinion that Walls does not have the skills or body type to play DB in a 3-4 scheme, but Walls has a much better chance of actually getting on the field.

I still say that Harrow needs to make sure that he is able to pay his own way if it comes down to it. There is a line between being trusting and being naive, and this is well over it. Even if Richt is a stand-up guy and a man of his word, Harrow can’t just assume that Richt will be the head coach after 2011.
