As Isaiah Crowell prepared to leave Columbus for Tuscaloosa and his official visit to Alabama Friday afternoon, Georgia was making moves behind the scenes to try to ensure that the state’s No. 1 player comes their way.
The Bulldogs offered a scholarship to Crowell’s teammate and close friend Quintavious Harrow on Thursday, Carver-Columbus coach Dell McGee confirmed. Better known as “Cootie” to his family and friends, Harrow (5-foot-10, 180 pounds) played a linebacker/safety position known as the “pony” in the Tigers’ 3-5-3 defense. He’s expected to played defensive back in college.
“It’s good to see Quintavious get a great offer like UGA,” McGee said.
By all accounts, Georgia is the only school from which Harrow has received an offer so far. The only reference to him among the recruiting services is an account of him running a 4.46-second 40-yard dash — pretty impressive — at the Scout Showcase combine in Atlanta last summer.
“Cootie? I really don’t know too much about it,” Crowell said as he prepared to leave his Columbus home with his parents Friday afternoon. “I heard that [he'd been offered by UGA] but I haven’t had a chance to talk to him about it. His phone’s not working right now.”
Crowell said he believes Harrow recently obtained a qualifying ACT score and that has boosted interest from college recruiters.
“He’s been overlooked this whole season,” Crowell said. “It’s about time he got some offers. I’m happy for him.”
Crowell was asked if he felt like the offer to Harrow was a ploy by the Bulldogs to get him to sign with them on national signing day.
“We’re really close. That’s true,” he said. “But I don’t know whether it has anything to do with me or not. I do know he’s a good player.”
Crowell, a five-star prospect and the No. 1-ranked player in the AJC Fab 50, has narrowed his choices to Alabama, Auburn and Georgia. He takes official visits to UGA next weekend and Auburn on Jan. 28. As of now he expects to announce his decision on national signing day.
Crowell is one of a number of elite recruits that will be in Tuscaloosa for official visits this weekend. Also expected are Valdosta’s Malcolm Mitchell and Jay Rome — both of whom will make their decisions public on Thursday — and DE Jadeveon Clowney of Rock Hill, S.C., the consensus No. 1 prospect in the nation.
So what does Crowell expect on his official visit to Alabama? “I don’t know. I’m just trying to have a good time is all,” he said.
Asked if he expected to get a lot of pressure from Bama coaches to commit, he laughed, “Yeah, I do.”

The kid looks like he has some quicks and is a disciplined player. He doesn’t over pursue and is there for the cut back or bounce out. A quick kid with a high football IQ, who knows how to tackle. I’ll take him.

If he has 4.4 speed , a heart and a desire to tackle he is a starter on D. I kind of like fewer stars by our defensive players.

This is excerpts from interviews I recently saw. Notice what Crowell’s coach had to say. Enjoy dawg fans…… Roll Tide
The other top recruit who will make his official visit to Alabama this weekend is running back Isaiah Crowell. Crowell, who is considered one of the top backs in the country, has the Crimson Tide among his top three, along with Auburn and Georgia.
“It’s a great school with great tradition,” Crowell’s head coach Dell McGee said. “You can’t go wrong going to a school like that, fresh off a Heisman Trophy winner at his position. You’ve also got a great person there in Trent Richardson to learn the ropes from.”
The Columbus, Ga. native also plans to wait until signing day to make his decision. He and teammate Gabe Wright will announce their decisions together at their high school. Wright visited Tuscaloosa last weekend.
Two other Georgia high school teammates will take their official visit to UA this weekend in tight end Jay Rome and athlete Malcolm Mitchell from Valdosta (Ga.) High School. Mitchell will arrive Friday and spend the weekend, but Rome won’t be able to make it until Sunday because of basketball. However, because of the holiday, Rome will extend his visit through Monday.
“It gives them one last time to be around the coaches and see the facilities,” Valdosta head coach Rance Gillespie said. “It gives the individual schools a chance to get the kids on campus along with the parents and show them everything they have to offer.”

This kid is NO Rennie Curran!! Cootie can WRAP-UP!!!! Curran always was around the ball, but tried to “lay wood” or knock the runner out of bounds and never seemed to wrap the guy up.
Case in point: Who’s “tackle” did Charles Scott run through when LSU beat us in 2009? RENNIE CURRAN.

They should have offered Quincy McKinney, a huge offensive guard, who Crowell ran behind for three years at Carver. He’s going to South Carolina.
Slimy??
January 14th, 2011

This move is only slimy if Crowell goes elsewhere and Richt pulls the kid’s ship. Say what you want about Richt, but he does not do things like that.
I would wager this kid sees more playing time at UGA than Nance does at UT.
He is the fastest player on a team full of elite prospects, and if he had a qualifying test score earlier would probably have several offers.

I think this is a great idea..Richt’s intentions wasn’t to do it to LURE Crowell in (if all you delusional Bama fans forgot, y’all got Demetrius Hart during the Army game-meaning that the last place Crowell would want to go to to get first-year playing time would be Bama). Richt did it because the kid passed his ACT and they just now offered him. Yeah, it may be a HIGHLIGHT video, but he still shows great speed and pursuit in a high school division that made Crowell the #1 RB, so you know he has to have some skill at that level.
As far as the Alec and Xavier situation from last year..I can only say this. Xavier was a linebacker coming out of high school yet UGA and Richt transformed him into a FB and a special teams player (a stepping stone I’d say to being what he truly wanted to be going intoo college bescause he was ONLY a 2 star recruit) and if y’all remember, Alec was actually a commit BEFORE his brother got offered..so, check the facts. Richt’s on the right path and I think this offer is perfect-kid can run and close (he’s gonna be on special teams the first 2 years and based on his work ethic/determination, he may become the next great OLB in Grantham’s system)..

He didn’t even get an offer from Middle Tennessee and we make fun of Tech for getting kids with those offers. Do you really think we recruited him thinking he could play. Give me a break. The kid will always be on the practice squad but if it was enough to get Crowell it was worth a wasted scholarship.

OK-first off, Dawg man is not an actual fan if he knew how Richt ran his system and saw what happened with the Alec/Xander Ogletree situation..
Second, I’m making a predicition-and ALL of everyone who reads this blog can mark it down: Drew, Rome, Crowell, and I’d even say Mitchell will all come to UGA..I highly doubt any of these IN-STATERS who are considering the Dawgs will leave them in the dust (especially since Alabama and AU have their over signing issues and UF is in transition with new coaches). The Dawgs will achieve their “Dream Team” status and these guys will work hard during the Spring and Summer to be a major part of the team over the Spring and Summer under Tereshinski..AND one more bold prediction..we’ll get a lot more ingenuity/creativity in our passing game with the departure of AJ Green. UGA is on the up-and-up..and I think Richt has us heading in the right direction.
Point though? UGA will get the remaining big name recruits from GA-mark it down!!!

Here comes my babbling rant. I hope Crowell would be the 2nd coming of Jasper Sanks. We have 2 highly recruited RB’s that have no HEART or know what fighting for every yard is like. We have let several under recruited RB’s committ to other SEC schools. How many times have u seen players from Georgia playing for other teams and wondering how we let them get away. Our coaches allow amatuers to evalute talent and we can’t evaluate them ourselves. Maybe Fran Tarkenton should be allowed to be a consultant to the AD. Much more on my mind, but not enough ears.

I think Gabe Wright will sign with Auburn and the departure of Fairley only helps that. They are probably 50-50 on Drew. Not sure why Crowell is taking another visit to Auburn. He’s been there a number of times and I didn’t think he had any serious interest in Auburn. Go ahead with the $$$ jokes….lol

People said the same thing last year about the Ogletree brothers, but looks like Zander proved to be very productive on special teams and he’s pushing to be the starting FB. Cootie has good speed and good enough size for a productive DB. I don’t think that this is a bad move at all. Hopefully, we’ll get to see him and Crowell between the hedges so we can find out.

I think 12 kids on my block and another 29 at church were offered by Alabama this week. How is such possible? Why can one school sign so many more players than the others. That is just not right and is out-in-out unethical if not worse.
As for our offer to Cootie, that is great. But he needs to change his name. On the other hand, I can see a lot of sales around his (retail)jersey. (Had to throw in that “retail” clarification in case the NCAA is looking over my shoulder.)

How do we expect these athletes to make it through college when they can barely pass high school? When a kid passes high school by the hair of his teeth, he is either dumb or lazy, neither of which fit well on a college football field or campus. Could be another mistake by this great coaching staff in Athens.

How do you all expect to win a championship when the field is not level? Richt has been straight up and following the rules (even the ethical ones) and has not won a championship. All the while, Alabama, Florida, LSU and Auburn have won national championships with thugs (check the arrests records for each team). They consistently over-sign kids by as many as 20 or more. I played division 1 sports and can tell you many stories. But, Richts’ problem is that he’s been following the rules, not that he’s starting to bend them now…
