Kissimmee, Fla. – I spoke to Jay Rome this morning and he said he is, indeed, still considering making an announcement down here at the Under Armour All-America Game.
“Yes, sir, I may still do it,” Rome said. “I’m not sure yet.”
Rome, a five-star tight end from Valdosta, admitted this week that Georgia is his leader and he has been teased mercilously by the fellow Under Armour All-Americans from our fair state that he is “all Dog.” But Rome has maintained that he wanted to go ahead and take scheduled official visits to Alabama and Tennessee.
Rome (6-6, 240) could be the first domino for Georgia in its quest to land a “Dream Team” of the state’s top in-state prospects this year. His teammate, WR/DB Malcolm Mitchell is also an Under Armour All-American and is deciding between UGA and Alabama. The Bulldogs are also in the hunt for Under Armour All-Americans Quan Bray and Xzavier Dickson, both of whom plan to announce their decisions during tonight’s nationally-televised game (7 p.m. ESPN), and five-star running back Isaiah Crowell.
Dickson, an AJC Super 11 defensive end from Griffin, said Tuesday he may flip a coin to decide between Alabama and Georgia. Bray, a 5-11, 180-pound running back from Troup, will choose between Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU and the Bulldogs.
Eight Under Armour All-Americans will make college announcements during tonight’s telecast. In addition to Bray and Dickson, you’ll hear from WR Devon Blackmon, S Jabari Gorman, CB Doran Grant, OL Marcus Jackson, S Robenson Therezie and DE Greg Townsend Jr.
