5-star TE Jay Rome still considering announcement at Under Armour Game

Kissimmee, Fla. – I spoke to Jay Rome this morning and he said he is, indeed, still considering making an announcement down here at the Under Armour All-America Game.

“Yes, sir, I may still do it,” Rome said. “I’m not sure yet.”

Rome, a five-star tight end from Valdosta, admitted this week that Georgia is his leader and he has been teased mercilously by the fellow Under Armour All-Americans from our fair state that he is “all Dog.” But Rome has maintained that he wanted to go ahead and take scheduled official visits to Alabama and Tennessee.

Rome (6-6, 240) could be the first domino for Georgia in its quest to land a “Dream Team” of the state’s top in-state prospects this year.  His teammate, WR/DB Malcolm Mitchell is also an Under Armour All-American and is deciding between UGA and Alabama. The Bulldogs are also in the hunt for Under Armour All-Americans Quan Bray and Xzavier Dickson, both of whom plan to announce their decisions during tonight’s nationally-televised game (7 p.m. ESPN), and five-star running back Isaiah Crowell.

Dickson, an AJC Super 11 defensive end from Griffin, said Tuesday he may flip a coin to decide between Alabama and Georgia. Bray, a 5-11, 180-pound running back from Troup, will choose between Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU and the Bulldogs.

Eight Under Armour All-Americans will make college announcements during tonight’s telecast. In addition to Bray and Dickson, you’ll hear from WR Devon Blackmon, S Jabari Gorman, CB Doran Grant, OL Marcus Jackson, S Robenson Therezie and DE Greg Townsend Jr.

I think once a few of the recruits start making announcements and decisions the rest will make their decision. With so much speculation and pressure i’m sure many of them are just ready for it to be over so they can move on.

Good read Chip, nice job. I wish that Rome would committed to Bama like his teammate Mitchell is going to do next week but he’s 99.9 % DAWG. Oh well , you cant get ‘em all . ROLL TIDE.

By end of the day, Dickson will have committed to UGA (not Bama) and a good 75% chance Bray will.

Hankie Aron…..Mitchell is not from Georgia like the rest of the dream team hopefuls , he’s originally from the Tampa Fl area . He said Bama wants him to play cornerback and UGA wants him to play ” a little offense and defense” (huh). He has an official visit to Bama this weekend and he decides next week. Just my opinion like everyone else on here. ROLL TIDE

I would love to see a south GA boy stay in state.UGA is going to be the team to beat.It is hard to compete at the top when you dont have the talent. A 5 star back is nothing without a 5 star offensive line. A great reciever is wasted without a talented QB. UGA is looking to have a great team all around if we get key players. If we dont land the ones that we are hoping for it may be another long season because we have waited to long to pick up the 3 star players. What happened to having pride in playing for your team. These boys are from GA. they go to Alabama,FSU, Florida to play for someone elses team. You will always be an outsider playing for another team.

Ramblor: My assignment this week is to cover the Under Armour All-America game down here in Florida. There are 10 Georgia kids in this game and, at the moment, none of them are considering Georgia Tech. James Vaughters said he may reconsider Tech if Jim Harbaugh leaves Stanford and I’ve reported that. The kids down here are all talking about the Dream Team concept. National analysts from ESPN, Rivals and Scout are writing about, too. It’s a legitimate storyline and a fluid news item because of the events that are taking place here in Florida tonight.

I’d like to write more about Georgia Tech while I’m down here but I can’t make it up. I’ll invite you to share with me/us any tips or leads you may have and will be happy to engage in any discussions you’d like to initiate. That said, I’ll be traveling from Orlando to St. Pete shortly and there’s not much I can do during a 90-mile commute.

Again, this blog is as much yours as it is mine, so feel free to initiate discussions about any recruiting subject you’d like.

Why would Mitchell want to go to Bama? who will be throwing him the ball there?

Any receiver who wants to make immediate impact should note Aaron Murray’s FRESHMAN stats, and know he will only get better……. as long as he loses the glove!!

Ramblor,

you should also note that Chip Towers is a UGA grad. And while he is not suppose to gleam with his Dawg pride in his work, he still has it.

And it’s ironic that you, a pompous Techie, would pend so much time of your day reading the work of a Dawg. I thought everything a UGA grad did in life was irrelevant??

Then he made you look VERY dumb in a public setting.

GO DAWGS!!!!!

Chip,
I appreciate all you do. Don’t let a couple of comments get you down. Many of us GT fans understand that there isn’t a lot to talk about right now related to GT. Hopefully Tuitt and Vaughters will turn into big GT stories to talk about.

I am no UGA fan, but I have to wonder if this “dream team” concept wasn’t a stroke of genius for the UGA coaching staff. Its been maligned and made fun of particularly given the season UGA had, but honestly the timing couldn’t have been better for UGA. The LeBron decision to play with Wade and Bosh for the Heat affected pop culture (and 18 year olds) in ways that I don’t even think we fully understand yet. The way this whole thing is playing out with the public statements and the media hype (Isaiah Crowell’s hat) makes me think that a lot of these guys may be wanting to make a big splash and announce for UGA all at the same time.
