Xzavier Dickson plans coin flip to decide between UGA, Bama

Kissimmee, Fla. Xzavier Dickson swears he’s serious when he says he’s going to flip a coin to decide between Alabama and Georgia before tomorrow night’s Under Armour All-American Game. In fact, he told me, he’s going to flip a coin five times, “just to make sure.”

I was talking to AJC Super 11 defensive end from Griffin after the last Under Armour practice Tuesday afternoon at Disney/ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex. I wanted to confirm his plans to make his college decision public on national TV during ESPN’s broadcast of the 7 p.m. game tomorrow. He indeed confirmed those plans.

I asked him if he already knew which way he was going at that moment. He admitted he had not.

“So I’m going to flip a coin,” he told me. “It’s that close.

“Come on,” I said incredulously. “You’re kidding, right?”

“No, I’m serious,” Dickson said. “I’m going to flip it five times and the one that comes up the most is the one I’m going to go with. They both can provide me with what I need at the next level, so I can’t go wrong.”

Isaiah Crowell, who is also deciding between Alabama and Georgia, was with Dickson when he told me this.

“You hearing this?,” I said to Crowell.

“I hear it,” he said.

A few minutes later I was interviewing Quan Bray, a running back from Troup who also plans an announcement tomorrow night. I asked him if he’d heard Dickson’s plan.

“He told me that, too,” said Bray, who is rooming with Dickson at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort this week. “I’m in the room with him so I guess I’ll see. That’s exactly what he told me.”

Bray is even more indecisive about his choice. He insisted Tuesday afternoon it’s still between Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU for him and they all had an equal shot.

“I may have to flip a coin, too,” he quipped.

Dickson and Bray are among what’s expected to be around eight Under Armour All-Americans who are going to make their college announcements during ESPN’s nationally-televised broadcast. There are 27 uncommitted prospects among the 90 players for this year’s game. There were only 13 undecideds here last year.

I asked Dickson why he was compelled to make the decision now if he’s still not sure. National signing day is not until Feb. 2.

“I think I’m just doing it to get it over with,” Dickson said. “If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it on national TV. I feel like I have a really good feeling for both schools. It’s a big decision but I can’t go wrong either way.”

It helps that it will be, in any case, a non-binding verbal commitment.

Chip, ask him if you can supply the coin and get one of those 2 headed ones from a magic shop and call it for him.

Another example why they need to recruit players that want– I repeat want to play for Georgia… the kid at Central Florida was a perfect example–coming out of Woodstock he wanted to go to UGA in the baddest way… if I remember the other night he ran circle’s around out lineman and just about decapitated a running back… flipping a coin- are you kidding me…

And the stuff the agents gave him at the South Beach party.

I love it this show that UGA is still a great school to go to,for an education and football. We are about to witness something great at UGA starting next year. As crazy as has been for them they deserve the right to keep this major decision “close to the vest.” Let ‘em have fun and watch the talent that pours into UGA this recruiting season. Crowell, Dickson, Drew, Rome, Swann, JUCO NT Jenkins will sign with the rest of the “DREAM TEAM”……….GO DAWGS

UGA obviously needs DEs and he could probably start next year if he can get in shape. If I were him, I think I would let that make my decision all other things being equal.

Glad to see all the hard work of the UGA staff ending in a coin flip. I wonder if Greg McGarity is considering a similar approach to determining whether to retain Richt. That would probably be better odds for Richt than he will have after next season.

Pathetic that these high school kids make such a mock about choosing a college. For the few that actually want an education, I am sure they and their parents are not flipping a coin to make this decision. Some of these teenagers are so full of themselves that they get their kicks attracting attention from the media with responses and comments like Mr. X

His “coin flip” sounds like a good excuse for him to commit to Bama . Roll Tide Xzavier Dickson ! Roll Tide Malcom Mitchell ! Also Roll Tide to our new D-Line coach, Coach Rumph from Clemson. This should improve Bama’s pass rush next season .

Tell the young man that as far as this Georgia fan is concerned he can just go with Alabama…we want football players that want to play at Georgia..for Georgia, the Dawgs, the heritage, the hedges, the 93 thousand plus who come to see dedicated, passionate players who wear the red and black…out of high school I would have crawled to UGA and paid my tuition to play for the Dawgs and this clown is going to flip a freaking coin…who needs him..get the two star who wants to give his all for the Dawgs…we have enough prima donnas!!

People, calm down, if you can’t see this kid is having fun with the reporters and his recruiting process then you seriously need a xanax and a stiff drink!

I’m sure he’s already made up his mind and the “coin flip” will be rigged or if the wrong team “wins” then he’ll make another splash on signing day when he flips.

If planning for the rest of your life has come down to a coin flip rather than good advice and determination of what really is in the kid’s best interest; well, this should cause one to wonder whether this is the type of flippant player you want on your team in the first place.

Do I go to class or stay out late and party a bit? Will I put in enough time in the weight room and playbill or have a few more video games with my friends?

The risk is now placed in the lap of Mark Richt…

Who cares what they do. I will get who I want and give Georgia the left overs.

At Alabama we worry about national championships at Georgia you worry about beating Central Florida, red panties, and the Clarke County jail overflowing with Georgia players.

Tech will have a better class than Georgia.

Get used to it Dawgs. Many daddies coming.

258DAWG…..You talk about about your team and I’ll talk about mine. What do you want me to do , cheer for your team ? Yeah right based on the comments I’ve read on hear since the bowl debacle it’s hard to get DAWG fans to cheer for your team. By the way Roll Tide still. Sorry Mr 258DAWG but I just come on here to read about and post about Bama recruits and if that bothers you then you obviously have bigger problems than what you’re reading in my comments. Also Roll Tide……
