Cornelius “Tank” Carradine will announce his decision between Georgia, Florida State and Ohio State this afternoon.
That’s the word from his high school coach, who will be meeting with the star defensive end from Butler County (Kan.) Community College to discuss those options over the next few hours. Carradine is a 6-foot-5, 265 pound defensive end who is the No. 2-ranked junior college player in America, according Rivals.com.
“Everyone is wanting to know what he’s going to do,” said Mike Martin, Carradine’s coach at Taft High in Cincinnati. “He’s a hot commodity. He’s a defense end who wreaks havoc when he gets to the quarterback and everybody wants that.”
Carradine led the National Junior College Athletic Association with 16 quarterback sacks as a sophomore this season. He recorded 109 tackles — including 20 for loss — for Butler, which finished No. 2 in the nation after losing to Navarro in the junior college national championship on Dec. 5.
Carradine took at official visit to Georgia late last week. He also took an official to FSU a couple of weeks ago. He did not take an official to Ohio State “but he has been there so many times,” Martin said.
“From what I gather, I think Ohio State is in third right now, which means it’s a tie between Florida State and Georgia,” said Martin, who said he’d just hung up with Alabama making a last-ditch pitch. “But that’s just from what he’s been saying. It’s his decision and he could do anything. What we’re doing today is sitting down and going over everything so he can make the decision that’s best for him.”
Carradine, who signed with Illinois out of high school but did not qualify, will be a midyear enrollee. So wherever he chooses he will be on their campus in January.
Georgia would appear to present a prime opportunuty for Carradine. The Bulldogs are expected to lose junior Justin Houston, the SEC’s sack leader, to the NFL when underclassmen have to declare next month They’re also losing Demarcus Dobbs, Kiante Tripp and Brandon Woods to graduation.
“He called me from his visit down there to check in with me and said it was good and he liked everything he saw,” Martin said. “But he said that everywhere he went. He’s been all over the place with this decision. It’s been a little bit overwhelming for him because he wants to play in the NFL and he knows it’s a big decision.”
Sometime this afternoon, we’ll all find out which way he goes.

Did anyone see the cheap shot Will Muschamp took at my UGA Bulldawgs yesterday? He said he must have had “temporary insanity” while at UGA, LSU and Auburn. Nice one Will!! I was your frat brother and the guy who stood up for you at 3am at 5 points Waffle House while everyone else in their was heckling you and threatening you. Chris Doering lit you up that afternoon for about 50+ points and you stunk up the field. For some reason me and a few others had your back. Now this…..You owe UGA everything you have because no one else in the SEC would give you a shot. I hung out with you, Whit Marshall and Eric Zeier on many occasions and you used to love UGA more than life itself. Don’t get too comfy down there…. They may love you now down there but if don’t win 10 or 11 next season….watch out!

Don’t know why UGA is even offering this guy. 265 lbs. is too small for DE in the 3-4, and he almost certainly doesn’t run well enough to be an OLB. It would be one thing if he were straight out of high school at 265 lbs. because you’d have a year or three to redshirt him and get him up to at least 275 so he could rotate in at LDE. But a JUCO … he is probably as big as he is going to get.
.
Marcel Dareus is 305 lbs. That is what you want at DE in the 3-4.

OK, since we are taking that approach,
Just wait and see the offense UGA will install to meet the capabilities of Aaron Murray. Dud e can scramble his tail off. If Isaiah Crowell comes in, just wait and see the hybrid Pro/Spread sets that will take place.
Of course, you forget Mark Richt was the reason FSU had such great offenses in the past, and they have downward spiraled since he left. Look for Richt to takemore ownership of the offense this spring/summer.
FSU is not the only team capable of making improvements to fit their QB

Oh please. It is not all about you or your team, ok? Muschamp has been at LSU, Auburn, Texas and is now at Florida … you know programs that actually contend for and win titles. UGA is the furthest thing from his mind right now, primarily because he knows that so long as Richt is the coach, he can basically beat UGA just by showing up. Look, Sly Croom at Mississippi State had a better record against RON ZOOK at Florida than Richt does.
.
Muschamp is thinking about getting by teams like FSU, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas and South Carolina. No reason to even bother with worrying about UGA, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and similar.

Ummmm … no. Different ballpark. 4-3 defenses, especially the version that Willie Martinez was trying to run, use undersized middle linebackers all the time. In that defense, you only need your MLB to go from sideline to sideline, not to rush the passer or to do much in coverage. Plus Curran actually is a good athlete. Not a great one, but a good one.
.
That is nothing like putting a 265 lb. DE in a 3-4 defense. In Martinez’s defense, the job of the DLs was to keep the OLs off Curran, so Curran can run around and make plays. In a 3-4 defense, it would be Carradine’s job to occupy those 320 lb. OGs and OTs that you guys have in the SEC so the LBs can make plays.
.
Look, if this guy was considering Georgia Tech, maybe, because you could have the argument that he is such a good athlete that perhaps he can overpower the smaller and lesser talented OLs in the ACC, and if that doesn’t work, maybe he can drop a few pounds and play OLB in the ACC. But in the SEC? And particularly in an SEC where everyone has gotten acclimated to going against Nick Saban 3-4 defenses for the past 10 years? Sorry, the guy doesn’t have a chance as a 265 lb. 3-4 DE in the SEC. ACC? Maybe. Pac-10? Maybe. Big 12? Maybe. Big East? Maybe. Mid-major? Definitely. But in the Big 10 or the SEC, the conferences that send the most OLs to the NFL? Not a chance.

@DiggityDawgDawg Random sets of data. What does UGA’s 104 wins this decade have anything to do with the current state of the program. They are coming off an 8-5 and now a 6-6 season. That’s heading in the wrong direction. UGA has been playing football since 1892 and has 26 bowl wins. FSU has been playing since 1947 and has 22 bowl wins. If you think UGA has outperformed FSU here, then so be it. I disagree. I do applaud Richt on the changes he’s made this year, and the renewed commitment to locking up in state talent. I see big things for UGA. I like to see UGA doing well. Anyone who dislikes the gates is a friend of mine. However, if you wanna compare programs, I can do that all day…

If he thinks it through, either UGA or Ohio St. would be best road to NFL for him. I’m an old bulldog myself and would love to see him announce for UGA this afternoon. There’s a thing in recruiting called “momentum,” and Tank could get it rolling in a big way, particularly if Ray Drew also goes for the Dogs next week or so. UGA has been signing them for years. UGA has sent many into the JUCO ranks and PG work at military high schools because they couldn’t qualifly at UGA.

I wasn’t being very clear Naga, I apologize.
What I was getting at is there were very few bowls being played from 1892-1947. Compared to the 30something bowls that are being played today. In the years 1892-1947 getting to and winning a bowl was a pretty major accomplishment. Today? Not so much. So all in all, I’m not surprised that FSU has a similar bowl win total as UGA. The landscape has changed over the years.

Muschamp is a little late to the party on Crowell. Hes a Dawg/Tide battle. Word out of Athens is he is a Dawg. Makes alot of sense because we havent offered Caffey. We feel solid that we will land Crowell and Bray. If our coaching staff were not sure, we would have already offered Caffey. Also, the way Crowell acts around Richt is totally different from any other coach. He will shake hands with Saban and Chizik, but he will give Richt a hug and double fist pound on the back. He really respects Richt and as long as he is our coach at UGA, we land Crowell.

schmeckdawg… glad that your a Dawg fan and want the best for the Dawgs, but WHY do you let teenage players effect you so much? We got on him late and we had a shot. We did not get him! If it ruins your day, dude you need to quit letting these other guys on here “yank your chain” b/c that is all they are doing. It would have been nice to have him, but we didn’t. I hadn’t heard that much about him until last week. It will interesting if the Noles only have 12 or so spots and all of these players. I don’t know if that is factual or not about how many schollys they have. We will be fine and will come out great in the end. If they don’t want to be a Dawg, fine…if they do fine! We only want the ones who want to be here. Go have a beer or something! And come in off the ledge!!! Go Dawgs

Matthews Dawg,
The reason I let teenage players effect me so much is that is exactly what our program is based on. And when I hear our genious coach talk of the “Dream Team” and to this point we are not getting anything significantly done and with the money I spend on the athletic program, it put a real sharp burr in my saddle. I don’t care about these other clowns jerking me around, in fact, its a nice little outlet for me to vent my frustrations. I do appreciate your kind words however!
