Ten@10: Justin Scott-Wesley’s commitment to UGA shaky

THE TEN AT 10:

1. Justin Scott-Wesley, who has been committed to Georgia since May, measured the strength of that commitment this week at “about 50 percent.” The reduction came after the Mitchell County wide receiver took an official visit to Louisville this past weekend. Scott-Wesley said he thoroughly enjoyed the trip, which included him having dinner with head coach Charlie Strong Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning.

“I enjoyed myself,” said Scott (6-1, 210), who set the state record in the 100-meter dash at 10.35 seconds the day he committed to UGA last spring. “I just liked the overall city, being such a big city and me being from a small town. And I was impressed with the football program. It was a fun trip.”

It’s not likely to be Scott-Wesley’s last trip outside Georgia. He’s officially looking around.  “I’m kind of considering other schools right now,” said Scott-Wesley, who landed a new offer from Miami just Monday night.

Scott-Wesley has often expressed concern about head coach Mark Richt’s job security. But, in this case, he said, “It’s not about that. It’s just about me weighing my options. Before the trip to Louisville I had never been out of Georgia. My only [recruiting] trips had been to Georgia and Georgia Tech. I just want make sure I’ve considered all the possibilities.”

Meanwhile, Scott-Wesley said he hasn’t spoken to the Bulldogs recently. “I’m sure I’ll hear from them. I tried to call Coach [Tony] Ball [Tuesday] but he didn’t answer. I’m sure they’re concerned about it,” he said.

2. If any college football programs are hoping to land Robert Nkemdiche in their recruiting Class of 2013 — and believe me, dozens are already lining up to do just that — then they would be well advised to go ahead and add Denzel Nkemdiche to their Class of 2011.

Right now, the Nkemdiche brothers (pronounced kim-DEECH-ee) are playing for Grayson High School. Denzel, a 6-foot, 205-pound senior who plays linebacker and running back for the Rams, is a moderately-recruited prospect who has gotten some looks from Georgia, Georgia Tech and Auburn but so far only holds an offer from Louisiana Tech. Robert is a 6-4, 250-pound defensive end who may end up being the top prospect in the state by the time he is a senior. He leads the Rams with 13 sacks as they take on Valdosta in the Class AAAAA quarterfinals this Friday. He already has offers from Georgia and BYU with many more on the way.

After Grayson knocked off No. 2-ranked North Gwinnett 23-19 this past Friday, the Nkemdiche brothers made it clear it is their intention to play together in college.

“Oh, yeah, we’re going together,” said Denzel, with Robert standing beside him. “Yes, sir, it’s a done deal.”

I’ll have more on the Nkemdiche brothers later today.

3. Georgia Tech has tabbed its quarterback of the future. Matt Dobson, a 6-foot, 186-pound junior from North Florida Christian School in Tallahassee, received a scholarship offer from the Yellow Jackets during a visit to the Flats this past weekend, JacketsOnline.com reports. It was the first offer for Dobson, who has also made two recruiting trips to Auburn. Dobson told the website he has rushed for about 600 yards in his school’s spread-option offense. Tech has already offered one of Dobson’s teammates, defensive back Travis Blanks, and is also recruiting NFC linebacker Dallas Griffiths.

4. Georgia Tech’s quarterback for the more immediate future — 2011 commitment Vad Lee — is having a storybook season for his Hillside High team in Durham, N.C. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior has rushed for 1,098 yards and passed for 2,249 yards while leading the Hornets to a 13-0 record so far, according to this story at NewsObserver.com. Meanwhile, he has played the fourth quarter in only two games all season. Not surprisingly, he’s the odds-on favorite to be named the North Carolina player of the year.

5. Georgia has also been busy tracking down quarterbacks on the recruiting trail. The Bulldogs have offered two signal-callers in the last week, according to separate reports by Chad Simmons of Scout.com and FoxSports.com. UGA offered juniors Zeke Pike (6-5, 220) of Edgewood, Ky., and Gunner Kiel (6-4, 220) of Columbus, Ind. Pike is a four-star prospect who already has more than 20 offers. Keil is also considered a four-star recruit who has about 10 offers so far.

6. Meanwhile, the next-in-line quarterback for the the Bulldogs, Christian LeMay, will be among the dozens of visitors in Athens for the Georgia Tech game on Saturday. LeMay, who will enroll at UGA in January, will be coming to the game with his younger brothers Uriah and Benjamin. Their father, Stacy LeMay, reports that Uriah, a 6-1, 185-pound sophomore wide receiver, had 150 yards receiving and two TDs in Butler High’s second-round playoff win last week. Meanwhile, Benjamin is playing in the American Youth Football League national championship the second week of December. “All the LeMay recruits will be there,” Stacy LeMay said of Saturday’s game.

7. Right now, Georgia is not planning to play Nick Marshall at quarterback. But the Bulldogs’ all-star commitment from Wilcox County is giving them a lot to think about. Last week the 6-2, 190-pound athlete accounted for eight touchdowns in a 60-39 playoff victory over Johnson County. He passed 256 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 176 yards and four more scores. That gives Marshall a state-record 100 touchdown passes in his career. Marshall, an AJC Super 11 selection who is slated to play cornerback for UGA, also had an interception in past Friday’s game and had a pick-six that was nullified by penalty. Yeah, he’s pretty good.

8. Speaking of record-setting performances, M.L. King wide receiver DeMarco Robinson broke the state’s single-season record for receiving yards this past weekend after logging 10 receptions for 246 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-47 playoff loss to Colquitt County. That gave Robinson 1,655 yards (on 73 receptions with 27 touchdowns), which just edges Da’Rick Rogers’ 1,647 yards at Calhoun last season. Robinson’s record came in 12 games while Rogers’ total was in 15.

9. Records were going down in flames in that track meet of a playoff game between M.L. King and Colquitt County last weekend. After for 522 yards and six touchdowns in the game, MLK Jonquel Dawson upped his season totals are 3,606 yards passing and 41 touchdowns, which are both DeKalb County recrods and fourth and third in state history, respectively. And running RB Tevin King rushed for 376 yards and five touchdowns for Colquitt County.

10. THIS & THAT: According to 247Sports.com, pretty much the whole Carver-Columbus prospect contingent is going to be at the Tech-Georgia game, including AJC Super 11 running back Isaiah Crowell, projected all-state defensive lineman Gabe Wright, 2012 defensive back Deion Bonner and 2013 wide receiver Marqui Hawkins. . . . There’s a new offensive lineman on Georgia’s radar. Joesue Matias (6-5, 300) is visiting UGA for the Tech game, according to DawgPost.com. He is a 2011 recruit from Union, N.J., who currently favors North Carolina. . . . Ft. Myers’ Sammy Watkins, a UGA target as one of the top receiver prospects in the country, committed to Clemson on Monday, according to multiple Internet reports.

Why commit if you are still going to other schools? When you asked your wife to marry you, you commited to her. Did you continue to go out with other women that were showing you interest? I guess that is asked to the honest people out there. If you are not 100% certain that you want to play ball at a school, then DO NOT say I am coming!!

If JSW thinks Louisville is a top flight city, God love the kid. He truly has never been out of his backyard.

I like that Johnson tells guys not to “commit” until they’re positive, then stop taking visits.

It hurts a team to think they have a guy then the guy just waffle on them.

If the coach is willing to give you a scholarship spot for you, then he deserves your word that you will play for him.

I hope for UGA’s sake that these guys don’t waffle on their “commits.”

Hey Lowndes25,

Should we be worried about Wesley? Also, do we have an other receivers on the radar that can come in and help replace AJ Green?

Any word on us getting some commitments from any JUCO players on the defensive side of the ball? I was looking at one of the recruiting sites, and there are a couple of guys who look like they would do well on the line in the 3-4.

For those counting, Louisville is the 41st largest market in America just barely trailing the likes of Virginia Beach and Providence, RI.

How can Athens possible compete with the likes of that?

Lowndes25 can speak to this better than I can, however reading between the lines (the fact that no coach from UGA has talked to him or returned his call) sounds to me like the Dawgs are moving in a different direction and may be cutting ties with Wesley.

Question for Lowndes…does the fact that the WR from FL commitied to Clemson (really???) mean that the WR from SC is opening his recruitment back up?

Oh that’s right, 10 games into his college career, and according to his coaches he still can’t properly run routes or run block.

Kids commit too early these days because they want to reserve themselves a spot somewhere. There have been too many instances of coaches telling kids we are only going to take 2 at your position and two others swoop in and commit the kid does not go to his first choice. In reaction to that, kids commit early to get “their spot” but continue to visit to make sure that said school is really where they want to attend.

ECB,

Why commit if you are going to change your mind? I will tell you-I coach in High School and I cant tell you how many times I have seen a kid wait to commit and then be without any offer at the end.It is a very competative situation.A kid will commit to make sure he has a definite offer. He then might change his mind and commit elsewhere. This is for sure a flawed system that makes kids select schools maybe they really do not want to attend.

It is going to be ABSOLUTELY HILLARIOUS when Paul Johnson is either fired or leaves in the next 2 years. Then, Tech will be left with a bunch of NO NAME recruits brought in to run a high school option.

You know how you Techies boasted over Gailey’s recruits in Johnson’s style….. it’s going to be a living hell when your new coach only has Johnson recruits to run a real style offense.

It’s the little things in life I look forward to.

For what it’s worth, I’m friends with Justin Scott-Wesley on Facebook, and based on a lot of his status updates, it almost seems like he is wanting to pursue track & field over football. I know he has a lot more track offers than he does football. He has also hinted around for a few months now that he might be going somewhere other than UGA

DollarDawg43

I wouldn’t get too fired up about it either way just yet. Commitments fall through regularly and the ones that stick don’t always pan out. You can’t judge a recruiting class until it has cycled completely through 4-5 years. A lot of kids you think you just have to have never really contribute and others on the fringe wind up being the kind you build a program around. I’m not gonna lose any sleep over a kid who is not even on campus yet.

Mr. Holmes

November 23rd, 2010

If a “committed” recruit describes that commitment as “about 50 percent” and says himself he’s “looking around at other schools” … how is that person still a commitment?

Not that I blame the kid for looking around–it’s his life. But how can this individual still be listed as a commitment?

That said I am concerned about Saturday. The wishbone may be a bit gimmicky but I wonder how the 3-4 is gonna handle it. I’m hoping we move a linebacker up close to give us some flexibility with the dive and let the DE’s be responsible for turning plays headed to the corner back inside.

I do think we can rotate the defense consistently and create confusion relative to his reads for Tech’s new QB.

Mr.Holmes,

That’s where the phrase soft-verbal comes from. When a kid is ranked 3-5 stars a college team keeps them listed as a soft verbal to maybe deter another college from showing interest. It’s a big game on what coach can get the last bit of time with the recruit before signing day.Shula from Bama spent the entire day(1 day prior to signing day) at Tim Tebow;s house thinking he had him convienced to come and play at Alabama.Late that night Urban phoned Tebow and had about a 2 hour discussion with him.Next day he signed with UF.

AJ Green is IMO the best WR that has ever played @ UGA. If he has a healthy career in the NFL, I think he will do amazing things there. One more year AJ! That’s what we should be chanting this Saturday. I like your wording, “help replace A.J. Green.” I don’t think he can be replaced. Don’t forget we lose Durham too. He has been a very good go to guy for us this year. If the other WR’s don’t step up, I expect we will be using our talented TE’s more.

UGA can sadly scratch Wesley from the commit list. He is long gone and looking for greener pastures. I am honestly scratching my head wondering why UGA cannot reel in 2 or 3 top level receiver’s. We had Mo Mass who is starting with Cleveland and AJ who is about to become a multi-millionaire. We run a pro-style offense and throw the ball a ton. We also are losing are 2 most productive players at that position. I am shocked we can’t sign some very big names.

Richt’s situation in Athens is the 800 pound gorilla in the room whether we like it or not, and every blue chip we have committed is being told that by other teams, and using that whether we believe it or not. All these teams are trying to “round out” their class , and what better way than to pick off one of our elite commits. It’s obvious Richt tenure in Athens is on a countdown by season, and finishing 6-6 this year and about the same next does not bode well for him, unless the powers to be have decided that keeping the status quo is OK with everyone because Mark is just such a nice guy. I know our competitors are hoping wqe keep him.

Being a UGA Alum who lives in Louisville and works for U of L. I can tell you that JSW is more focused on track than football. Louisville has a great track program and I was at the game this past weekend (UL vs West Virginia) when JSW was there. I heard it right from Coach S’s mouth “All you have to give us 50% and track 50% and you can come here. Louisville doesn’t throw the ball all that much and are a spread option team. I do know that Coach Richt has told JSW he wants him to focus on football #1 and track #2.

Mightydawg

I think that the 3-4 will match up well with the option. Nose, ends, and inside backers are responsible for dive, outside linebackers are responsible for QB, and safeties are responsible for pitch with inside backers scraping outside. In 4-3, the end had to make a decision to either close down on the dive or take QB.

Mr. Wesley seems a tad naive and willing to accept anything he hears as gospel. The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded.

I think I would gladly trade Justin Scott-Wesley for DeMarco Robinson.

We already have some commitments from a few guys who could play receiver, including some on the defensive side of the ball. Hopefully other athletes like Damian Swann, Malcolm Mitchell or Quan Bray would be given a shot at WR if they sign with us.

Nick Marshall could be a Hines Ward type of athlete. I would let him play where ever he wants and I’m sure he will be good at it.

November 23rd, 2010
11:10 am

Georgia receiver A.J. Green says he won’t decide on whether he will stay or enter the 2011 NFL Draft until after Georgia’s bowl game – if they play in one. A key factor, however, is the NFL’s labor agreement. “That’s really gonna play a big part in my decision,” Green said. “Because if they’re talking about a lockout, there’s really no point in me leaving.”

The NFL collective bargaining agreement is set to expire next March. Underclassmen need to declare their intentions by Jan. 15. It is unlikely there will be a new CBA in place by then. And if not, this will be a huge factor in how many underclassmen decide to leave school early.

Another factor in juniors leaving early is that they do not know what they will get by leaving. Part of the new CBA is going to be a rookie pay scale. Well i hope the dawgs are pursuing other top notch WR’s, not liking what i’m hearing from JSW, but thats how it goes in recruiting, still a long ways till NSD. I still believe AJ may pull a surprise and stay but i wouldn’t bet the mortgage on it. We seem to be in the mix for most of the targets we are looking at, but at WR it appears we are struggling there. Maybe a surprise before NSD. The JUCO WR would be a very good pick-up, but i’m afraid he will stay out west..go dawgs

Sanford Drive – That “High School” offense you’re referring to, would that be the same one that’s is currently leading the nation in rushing and out-producing UGA in total offense by more than 15 yards per game?

Georgia is focusing in the state this year and there aren’t any big name receivers this year.Scott-Wesley already decommited from Stanford to pledge with UGA so that should tell you all you need to know about his idea of “commitment”.

Sanford Drive,

What makes GTs offense not real? The last time that offense played in Athens it put the most rushing yards in that stadium since 1994. Also that offense currently leads the nation in rushing.

Oh yeah, we only needed one pass to beat UGA in 2008.

Yeah, it’s not a real offense

So many of these recruits are like most 17-18 year olds. They’re into what’s hot a the time. UGA is stale. The program hasn’t done a thing since 2007. Many kids are going to be influenced by the teams that are currently relevant on the national scene. That’s why in the SEC if your program treads water (as UGA has done since 2005), then your yesterday’s news, thrown out with the trash. Crowell is a perfect example of a typical 17 year old kid. Going into the season, he was all about UGA. Then Alabama was the team to beat once UGA tanked. Now, in the past couple of weeks, Auburn has peaked his interest. So as long as the UGA program is a dumpster fire, expect kids like Scott-Wesley, Crowell, Drew, etc. to look elsewhere.

I agree with Roaddawg80 this is a huge recriting weekend so we need to help our coaches out and sell why UGA is where the place to go. We are getting a Christmas present early for some of these top in-state recruits to have chose to come to Athens the final game of the season instead of other big rival games. Lets make it a huge weekend everyone pack out the dawg walk and I like the idea of chanting some of these recruits names. If anything else lets be loud and show support for our seniors.

I thought not. GT should lead the nation in rushing since they attempt like one pass a game. That one-dimensional offense hasn’t worked so well this year.

Who was the last uga jr which was a projected 1st rd pick that opted to stay for their sr year? Only guy I can possibly think of was pollack……but i don’t believe he was projected as a 1st rd pick following his jr year.

uga has no track record for high profile jrs staying……even low profile jrs (t. berreria, d. ware, k. lumpkin, a. allen, r. jones) leave early. none of those guys were even drafted before the 5th rd.

@Pup Fan, JSW is definitely enjoying the recruiting process…nothing wrong with that whatsoever. I am still being told that if we want him in this class we will get him…we just need to show him some love and attention.

@Sharpsburg Dawg, I am not worried about JSW to be honest with you. We are after a few JUCO guys on both sides of the ball: WR Rashaan Vaugh, WR Anthony Denham, DT John Jenkins and DE/LB Tank Carradine. I think we have the best shot of landing Denham and Jenkins.

@greg, the commitment of Watkins to Clemson will have some impact on Peake, but their is another change coming at Clemson that is going to hit closer to home that might cause him to rethink his commitment some.

Everyone is screaming for DeMarco Robinson, but he is 5-9.5 and 160 lbs. He might be talented athletically, but definitely under-sized for the SEC.

also, don’t forget we have Chris Conley. that kid is going to be a star. Great size and speed. JSW was just a fast set of wheels, and granted there is no substitute for speed, the guy still has to get open and catch the ball.

AJ is the best to wear the red and black. He has the best hands i’ve ever seen, and he has a long thin frame that is perfect for WR. guy is just an amazing combination of attributes.

obviously not time to panic. JSW is a great prospect and i would hate to lose him, but we might be better off if we cut him loose: we can’t offer demarco robinson because we’re holding our last WR spot for quan bray (who, i’m told, we have a very good shot at landing), but if JSW decommits then we could offer robinson, who is clearly having a fantastic year and deserves an offer.

if we get bray and robinson, i don’t think anyone will remember if we lose JSW. best luck to the kid and i hope he finds the right school for him; if he thinks louisville is a big city, he might need to get out and see the world a bit.

MURPHY – In the statistical category of “Total Offense”, yes, Georgia Tech is better than UGA. This is a hard fact and is simply not debatable. In the statistical category of “Scoring Offense”, UGA is better than Tech.

I will concede your point that between the two, it is more important to put points on the scoreboard, but both are very relevant measures. My post was simply to counter the moronic argument that other schools have caught up to CPJ’s “high school” offense so it doesn’t work anymore. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Good Morning Lowndes25…just what are you hearing that the dawgs need to do to show him they we really want him. I understand that he is enjoying the recruiting game, but do you fee that the dawgs coaches have not given him the attention that he thinks he needs. I think that is the part that bothers me the most about some of these or a lot of these recruits nowadays, they have to be in the limelight. I want the guys that want to be dawgs and do not play these games. Don’t mean to sound negative, but some of this with these guys is gettiing old. I fully understand the recruiting process and how it works, but i again go back to someone like AJ Green, who after he committed didn’t play these games for the best of my knowledge. Anyway, i hope we have some eggs in some other baskets, but this year doesn’t seem to be our year for WR’s or at least not up to this point. I know we have a couple of good ones committed at this point, but i don’t see the elite WR with some speed especially if we lose JSW.

Crowell has been injured, but so have some of our best players. Chris Durham and AJ Green have missed significant time @ Georgia. Murray misses much of his senior year of H.S. due to injury. Kids sometime get hurt playing this violent sport. I’ll take Crowell any day.

commit

November 23rd, 2010

commit – verb (used with object) – “to bind or obligate, as by pledge or assurance; pledge: to commit oneself to a promise; to be committed to a course of action.”

No offense to Justin Scott-Wesley but if you committed to UGA you should stay there, it doesn’t show much character to back out, thats why its called a commitment. Frankly after Rodgers backed out last year my opinion is if you commit and then start changing your mind cause the season isn’t going the way you thought it would, then I don’t want to see you in a Bulldog uniform. If your going to back out on that then you don’t have much fight and would probably back out on your team when things got tough. So get your mind right young man, your either a Bulldog or your not, end of story

Murphy, just curious, what type of offense do you think Tech and UGA should be running? Georgia uses their pro style offense to bring in big recruits hoping to get to the NFL. Tech uses the spread-option to take advantage of athletes on the offense, and bring a change of pace that teams are not used to seeing. If everyone ran the spread like a Florida or Michigan, wouldn’t someone trying something different like a pro-style or west coast offense be ahead of the curve?

MURPHY – On your last point, we’ll have to agree to disagree (is this a great country or what?). I don’t feel Tech’s offense is antiquated or out-dated in any way. It is VERY effective at moving the ball. I would love to see us employee a more effective passing attack but our inability to do so this year stems much more from receivers (Stephen Hill) who can’t catch than it does from an offensive system that doesn’t have a passing component. I foresee that changing in our favor in the future.

Good luck Saturday. I hope you guys play well and finish second.

Outside observer and Tech82,

Let me say this: I formation/Pro style and spread option is all and good as long as you change up your charcteristics of the play calling. How many of the same formations and play’s do yall see UGA run that you say after the play-I knew they were going to run that play? Neither one of our schools show mastery of our offensive scheme’s. Tech cant throw the ball and UGA struggles to run the ball. Is it our athlete’s? Use this for an example: The NFL game last night-San Diego has lost 8 offensive starters since the beginning of the year. The San Diedo QB has thrown to 14 different players in the last 3 games. They are 3-0 in the last 3 games. In this case its apparent that the players dont dictate the offensive scheme, the coaches do.My point is: Coaches must make adjustments to what ever offensive scheme they run,and play to the strong points of their athletes.Tech and UGA have not done this in 2010. Hope I made my point here.

This sucks. I was extremely excited about JSW coming to Athens. I feel that he can be a contributor. I am getting really sick and tired of these kids promising a school and an entire fan base that they will be there and then we get all excited about the possibilities and then we just get let down if they leave. It really is not fair to a program to do that and take them hostage and then wait until the last minute to leave them in the dust after everything the program has done for them. If he wants to leave for a second or third class program like Louisville then I would say go ahead and decommit and not hold UGA hostage. If he wants to be a Dawg, we will welcome him with open arms. With a qb like Aaron Murray and us being thin at WR, I really don’t know why a commit would want to leave like that. Well, here’s to hoping he stays with us

Outside Observer

November 23rd, 2010

As a Tech fan, I feel Paul Johnson is playing to the strengths of our players: running the ball. I would love for our offense to open up a little with a passing game but until the players can make catches during games, running seems to be about the only thing working right now. I agree though, that there are times I feel that Paul calls the most predictable play. Case in point: when it is fourth and short, in an obvious punting situation, Paul decides to attempt to draw the defense offsides by bringing the A-backs back in motion. IT HASN”T WORKED YET! I wish he would mix it up and actually snap it once. Or at least call timeout then punt it. Not go for it…. As for Georgia, I think their goal should be good balance. The problem at the moment is the O-line not living up to expectations. But if they are able to block well for the running backs and give Murray enough time to find an open receiver in passing situations, I think Georgia’s offense will be successful. Just my thoughts though.

Some of you UGA fans crack me up. If CPJ can’t win with his recruits then what does that say about CMR? Yes this season has been a BIG let down, but maybe it has more to do with losing 5 players to the NFL, 3 of which were GTs best players. You loss two o-lineman to graduation and so on. Now you have freshman and sophmores trying to fill those slots with a new defense to boot, which as a UGA fan you should be all to familar with. I suggest you worry a little less about GT and a little more about UGA.

Lowndes25, I really need you to quit your day job and keep me informed. (HAHA), Anyway, Is the player you hinted may flip from his current commitment a receiver?, and is Gabe Wright still open to UGA in your opinion? I know he hasn’t been exactly showing love for the UGA program in his statements, but he will be in Athens this weekend. From what little I can gather of my 1 resource, we look really good on Rome and Drew. That’s all I have. Crowell I have high hopes for, and I have no knowledge of Quan Bray. You said that you feel good on Crowell, Rome, Drew, Mitchell, Dickson, and Swann, but do you have a thought on Bray? Additionally, do you have anything further on the Clemson situation? Meaning turnover is in the mix.

Don’t discount size or play to much into it. You have your designs on size but I don’t remember Percy Harvin being taller than 5′10″ and he worked out just fine for us down here. Remember he has speed and the route running skills can be taught. He could also serve as a punt / kick off returner with blazing speed where route running skills don’t come into play. Route running skills don’t come into play in a reverse situation either or in a screen pass.

We recruit too many QB’s and too many receivers. How many are sitting on the bench at UGA now? With LeMay basically sitting out the SR. year. Nick Marshall should be strongly considered for his QB skills. He is more of a D.J. Shockley player than a Champ Bailey player. What ever happened to having an abundance of RB’s at UGA? Would it be a good plan to recruit some of the AAAAA and AAAA running backs that had all those yards this weekend in GA? I.e. the MLK back and the Valdosta Back. The Walker, and Hearsts only come along in a small team once or twice in 20-30 years.

Demarco Robinson is the truth. He is small, but he dosen’t know it. He has scored against everyone he has played and against AAAAA competition. The quickest first step I have ever seen. One move and he is gone. He would be a good slot WR. Let him get it in space and let him do what he do. He was dominant eve this summer in 7 on 7 Damian Swann could do nothing with him. People scoff because they can only see his measurables. Ask the coaching staffs at Colquitt, Valdosta, South Gwinnett, Newton, Newnan, Stephenson, and Collins Hill, they’ll tell you, the kid is bad.

Demarco Robinson may be small, as is Rantavious Wooten and Carlton Thomas. Unlike Wooten and Thomas, Robinson can fly and has quicks. Both Wooten and Thomas are slow to be small. If you are small, you better be able to fly.

About JSW, have to wonder, did he have a bad season, is he having trouble catching the ball, running routes, or what? With all that world class speed, either the coaching staff at Mitchell-Baker is exceptionally bad at utilizing what should be a premier talent, or he is missing something. How can a guy 6′1 205 who runs that fast NOT make a huge impact? How did they use him? You would think with his size and speed he would be unstoppable from a RB position, taking direct snaps in the gun, end around. Get him the ball.

Keep in mind this is a young man who committed to Stanford without ever visiting, then to Georgia. Now he’s wavering.

Contrary to Scott-Wesley’s quote here, he was quoted in the Albany Herald as saying,

“I’ve been hearing things about the stability of the coaching staff at Georgia,’’ Scott-Wesley said. “There are rumors that Mark Richt might get fired or may be leaving to take another job. People, fans of Georgia, have been calling for his head for the past two or three years, and I am a little worried about the coaching situation there.’’

Einsteindawg

I’m not too concerned. Look how our past two “speedsters” have worked out…Bryan Evans and Vance Cuff. How ’bout we recruit some 6′5″, 3 star receivers that can do a 4.6 and want to play between the hedges.

Einsteindawg

November 23rd, 2010
5:25 pm

And while we’re at it, let’s recruit fewer “athletes” that occupy our bench and either never play or come in for one trick play a game (that never works). And, let’s recruit some big (and smart) offensive and defensive lineman…we never seem to have the right ones. Who evaluates our talent anyway?

J-Dub

November 23rd, 2010
5:29 pm

Captain, Mitchell County did not use Scott-Wesley enough. He was invisible in some games. He made a huge impact in the return game and when he did get the ball, he was dangerous. Very few direct snaps, end arounds, etc. if any. He was double and triple teamed a lot and Mitchell went to the guys in single coverage. For what its worth, he is a great talent but Mitchell had some very athletic players and Atkins (RB) was very good at exploiting holes in the defense that were caused by their focus on JSW. I don’t think we really got to see what he could do because our offense did not flow through him. They took what the defense gave them and a lot of the time, that was other players. I don’t necessarily think that is a knock on coaching either. They recognized where the talents were and when JSW’s opportunity was there, they took advantage of it. He is a great athlete with a lot of speed but right now he is a very raw talent. With a wide receiver coach at the next level, he could develop into a very talented wide receiver.

We’re certainly an arrogant bunch.

We look around on Defense and see what ?

2 players ?

We look around on Offense and see what ?

2 players ?

No Depth on Offense or Defense, and tired players out-of-shape who cannot seal the deal against the good teams.

We look around on Special Teams, and what do we see ?

Walk-ons and walk-ons given a Scholarship.

And, we can turn our noses up at a COMMITMENT to UGA who says Heaven Forbid that Coach Richt’s job status is NOT SECURE with 20 Losses the last 5 years, 4 a year average Losses every year of the lst 5 years and COUNTING, that he is exploring his possibilities, to decide where HE WANTS to go, not where you don’t want him to go.

I got news for you DISNEYdawgs.com saying that, our 2009 class is NOT here they are gone from the program. Our 2010 class was very poor. And, our 2011 class is assured of being poor, even without him being removed from the COMMITMENT list, which he most assuredly just did.

The only “commitment” that matters is on national signing day….and the “commit” thar really matters is the commitment the recruit makes on the practice field. Best example of the silliness of the recruiting process:

Trey Burton – 3-star recruit and a hard worker on the practice field and a key player for the Gators.

Dominque Easley – 5-star recruit and “#2″ DL recruit in the nation….does not practice hard and has been a dude so far at Florida.

Give me 22 Trey Burtons over 22 Dominique Easleys anyday.

You have obviously not watched Jeff Driskell play QB in high school (this year)….or you wouldn’t be so bold with your LeMay comment. LeMay is not even playing high school football this year…is he?

Driskell’s stats in the Lakeland playoff game were out of this world….rushed for almost 400 yards and 6 TDs….passed for nearly 200 years and 2 TDs….and even caught a TD pass in the game….against one of the best high school teams in the country. Without Driskell…his HS team doesn’t win a game all year. With him, they go to the state playoffs. That is how good Driskell is.

I’m worried about UGA recruiting combine-type stars instead of
going after real football players. 40 times, bench pressing, and cone drills do not show what real players can do. Real action is where it’s
at, and I’m afraid ga. goes by the camp and combine results too much.
Just ask the fans in Hall County what they think about UGA has offered and who they have not. It’s a joke!

AJ has either been benched or injured in 3 yr career. He has not done one thing for UGA.He is the Dominque Wilkins of UGA football lore. Let him go and good luck. I recall his post TD showboating strut in the LSU game in 09 that led to a short field K.O and we LOST that game. He has done nothing for UGA .,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nothing.

Marvleous Marlon Brown ought to contibute next year along with the Mike Bennet kid from Alpharetta who may be a lot like UGA ‘S REAL star Kris Durden. Kris plyed hurt and he played hard and he did everything that as coach would ask. AJ? He is selfish and let him go.

AJ’s legacy? He will be forgotten in 4 or 6 years as having done NOTHING.

I haven’t seen LeMay play….but he will really have to be something to be better than Driskell (he was a man amoungst boys vs. Lakeland with over 600 yards of total offense)…which is one of the top HS teams in the country every year. Obviously, Driskell has higher character standards than the “say one thing and do another” LeMay.

SharpsburgDawg….

He is a dual-threat QB….excellent passer and runner….and plays in a spread offense at his high school. He is the teams only star and does almost everything himself on offense to win games. But he could be an excellent pro style QB if he was asked to play that way….vs. Brantley who isn’t very good at either at the moment.

TampaGator

November 24th, 2010
6:46 pm

P.S…..If Brantley plays most of the game vs. FSU….the Gstors lose by more than 14 points to the Noles. The Noles will eat up the panic stricken (scared in the pocket), no leadership skills, Mr. Brantley. I have never wished ill will to a Gator QB, but Brantley has been terrible this year, and Reed has shown flashes of excellence when he plays….something Brantley has not shown….even against App State last week….all year. I just don’t understand why Meyer keeps starting Brantley….other than he says Reed does not have enough reps at QB to be effective for a full game. But…I would take my chances with Reed vs. FSU based on how Brantley has played all year. He simply brings energy to the Gator offense….and Brantley brings “deflating” attitude to it.

Also…..Georgia will blow out Tech by….maybe 15 to 20 points….maybe more….this weekend. A.J. goes out in style….NFL bound.

And…what happened after Tebow….

Nick Marshall intercepted the pass and returned if for a TD after grabbing Zach Walkers jersey and pulling him to the ground because Walker had beat him on the play for a JOCO TD. Marshall pulled him down and then intercepted the pass. It (TD) was nullified because Marshall got beat on the play and got beat all night long by Zach Walker. Walker caught a 35 yard TD pass over Marshall that made Marshall look like he needed to stick with being a QB. Zach Walker was and is a better athlete than Marshall. He proved that in the JOCO – Wilcox playoff game. He owned Marshall and Wilcox eventuallt started double covering Walker because Marshall couldn’t cover him one on one.

This is where you will see the pressure raise on Richt. About the only thing he does well is recruit and if Louisville takes him out of a recruit you are hearing the cracks in the foundation. What someone needs to tell this Justin Scott-Wesley is Louisville is not a destination job for coaches and there is far more chance of a coaching change for Charlie Strong a SEC alumni than Richt, particularly if Strong can recruit this caliber of player and play in the Big East. And if Richt is fired the replacement at Georgia will be stronger than the one that replaces Strong. Georgia does not like losing, can probably still hire whoever they want and actually has an athletic director that seems to have some cattle along with the big hat. If you are going to invest in a program, which is somewhat your future you better think a little harder what you are doing.
