DE Stephon Tuitt has ‘high interest’ in Notre Dame after official visit

Stephon Tuitt took his first official visit of the year and, in two words, he was blown away.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end from Monroe Area traveled with his mother to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame-Michigan game and they both were wowed by what they saw there.

“I didn’t expect the visit to go so well,” said Tuitt, who has the Fighting Irish among a top five that includes Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami. “It went really well. I saw things I never thought I’d see. Just looking at the campus and seeing all the history was great.”

Tuitt got the full treatment from Notre Dame. He and his mom actually left for South Bend by car on Thursday and did not get home until Sunday night.

In between he spent a bunch of time with his official host, redshirt freshman linebacker Kendall Moore, who showed him around the campus and introduced him to players. He also spent time with coaches, fellow recruits, took an academic tour and, of course, took in his first game at Notre Dame Stadium.

The fact that the Irish lost in dramatic fashion 28-24 to rival Michigan did not sway Tuitt one bit.

“It was a great game,” Tuitt said. “Denard Robinson is just a spectacular player. You can’t take anything away from the defense. That guy may win the Heisman.”

Just as important, Tuitt’s mother enjoyed the trip, he said. “She loved it. She actually liked Notre Dame when she was a child. She got a chance to see things you don’t see on TV.”

The Tuitts weren’t the only ones impressed with the visit. George and Josh Atkinson, twin sons of former Oakland Raiders defensive back George Atkinson, committed to Notre Dame during their visit.

Tuitt said he doesn’t have any immediate plans to take any other official visits. More than likely he said he’ll take a series of unofficial visits to campuses closer by. He said he wants to put recruiting on the back burner for a little while so he can focus on his senior football season. The Purple Hurricanes (2-0), winless the previous two seasons, will be seeking to stay undefeated in their region opener Friday night at Lumpkin County.

In the meantime, Tuitt was understandably exhausted after the 12-1/2 hour drive home Sunday night. But happily so.

“I’ve got high interest in Notre Dame now,” he said.

Be serious. It was only a smoke screen. I really thought you had some insiders that kept up on recruiting!

Like I said his mama will decide where Tuitt goes to school. If she doesn’t feel the love you are out.

Why would he choose ND over Georgia Tech??? He obviously did not watch the great Al Groh yesterday demolish the former Fighting Manginos…..

Tuitt can make a huge difference and will play as a true Freshman at GT!!

GT players are still learning the complicated 3-4 defense…….the team will be playing well by the end of this season and Tuitt can step into a Great situation in 2011.

It is funny to sit back and watch the Tech fans implode, and slowly turn on Paul Johnson.

PLENTY of them have been screaming that the Triple Option won’t work in big boy football after their loss to North Dakota State this past weekend. And it is hilarious.

Dawgs will rebound. The fact that South Carolina is ranked #13 now, means if we can man-up and beat #12 Arky this weekend, we may rejoin the polls. Then the schedule lines up rather nicely to string up a bunch of wins.

Tech, so sit at the kiddie table. Until you get rid of CPJ at least. Just WAIT til next year when it’s ALL his recruits…… i cannot wait.

Glory Glory….do not underestimate the genius Paul Johnson…he is lulling the ACC into a false sense of security….do not underestimate his double chin or manboobs.

Last time I checked, you are 1-1 also. At least our DC tried to make adjustments on Saturday. I guess USC east runs this state now? Glory glory, 6-6 is on the way….

Don’t think it will be wise to give up on CPJ and the Jackets just yet. It was one bad game. It happens. We laid an egg against UVA in 08, on homecoming no less, and then came back and beat Miami and uga. Let the games play out and see what happens.

Go Jackets!!

I hope Tuitt goes to Notre Dame… since he isn’t going to UGA. Then his mama can fly half way across the country to see him sit on the bench for two years.

Reading this story makes me glad UGA is out of contention for his services. Good luck keeping him in-state.

He’s not going to ND. IF you read interviews with players after a visit, 99.9% of them rave about the visit and how they’re interested. They are being polite and saying what the interviewer wants to hear so he can write a story. That is all. He’s just playing the game. He’ll most likely end up at GT, even though I wish there was mutual interest from UGA. With the way both our defenses played, yikes…

Glory Glory,
Love the spin on GT and UGA after their losses. Have you thought about a career in PR! Here’s what I saw, UGA got outcoached! GT got out-executed! No REAL GT fans are jumping off the CPJ bandwagon. The offensive scheme put GT in a position to score at least 40 points (which was more than enough to win the game), as Nesbitt twice overthrew wide open recievers and one touchdown pass dropped. CPJ’s recruiting is fine… I have no complaints there. Sure I’d love for GT to compete with UF, Alabama, FSU, and UGA for all the 5-star recruiting talent, but that isn’t realistic for GT no matter who is coach. Half the guys that Nick Saban recruits at Alabama wouldn’t even be able to get in at GT.

Hey Glory Glory,

What is more funny is to watch all the UGA fans turn on CMR, CTG, CMB, and some of the players. This only a week after 99% of you guys thought you were easily going to beat USC on the way to the SEC championship game.

September 13th, 2010

GT Sambo, I think you proved the point that you did not watch the UGA vs. USCe game on Saturday. We lost not because we were outcoached (even though some of Bobo’s playcalling had me scratching my head), but we got beat because we flat out could not tackle. Go back and watch a replay of the game and you will see that UGA was in the backfield most of the game, but we just did not wrap up (we had anywhere from 25-50 missed tackels for the game). I give a lot of credit to Lattimore for continuing to pump his legs even though our guys were hanging on to him and thus he produced a lot of yards after contract. Also, I watched some of the GT/KS game and Nesbitt just does not look comfortable passing the ball this year…I think some of it has to do with breaking in some new receivers (and being without D. Thomas), but CPJ needs to help build his confidence by giving him some mid to short throws that he can complete instead of trying to go for the home-run ball. Needless to say, GT and UGA still have a lot to work on, but I am not in the least bit panicking as a UGA fan.

Funny, you should see all of the GT fans turning on Al Groh on the GT Message Boards. Honestly, we all have fans who knee-jerk after one game and we should all just step back and let our emotions die down so that we can take an accurate look as to why each team lost.

We’ll be fine. We will develope a QB who can run and pass, and noone will be able to stop us. I still have complete faith in Nesbitt, but the score could have easily been 49-7. Our d will grow. I don’t know anyone “jumping ship”-just frustrated like anyone who loses!

Chipster this what dawgs need!! forget 5 stars or 7 or 8 stars for that matter. We need some “WARRIORS” guys who are more interested in winning than facebook, twitter, myspace or anything else. There is a negative snowball build in Athens that is getting bigger and bigger that only.ONLY winning is going to stop. Forget a win on saturday, we need a good season. None of this up and down stuff. following the good season we need an even better off season (which i think is critical) lots of hard work, some rock solid leadership, zero arrests Z_E_R_O zilch, none if they do off the team you go (goes for anyone) then they can open their mouths. But right now be quiet and work and work and work and work and work until next season. if you do this i’ll bring you another homade pound cake like i used to bring when you were at ABH.

If UGA’s TG thinks that he can play big boy ball, then he and Richt will visit and sign him, late. I doubt that UGA really is interested though.

ND will get him. Most kids think that ND and Michigan are big boy ball …………but they are not. If the young man goes there, fine with me. He now knows that Miami and Clemson and GT and the ACC are laughing stocks now across America.

GT? No, the few decent recruits like this young man, are aware that GT is only small ball. They know that GT is more akin to Dolly Madison, William & Mary and Elon College and Millsaps and Davidson and College of the South. This ND trip by the young man ……….proves it.

It has begun again for GT. It has been just like this since 1968 When V Dooley ran Bobby Dudd off. They cannot recruit, therefore they cannot win and then their coach bails or he gets fired. That printer in the GT A Dept. is a hummin with CPJ’s resume. He is looking to go to Alabama and coach some obscure HS somewhere to get outta town.

The GT Triple Bone just cannot get it up anymore vs teams that can run. See Iowa, and LSU and Kansas and lousy UGA. GT has lost 3 of their past 5 games and this is now a TREND.

If you are a fan of either GT or UGA and are turning your back now then you are not much of a fan. Both teams are trying to install a new defense and both have there hands full with trying to find go to guys on offense. The main issue for both is tackling and that was clearly displayed in both of our games. The penalties by GT can be fixed and are just stupid mental things. Even if GT takes another loss next weekend it won’t bother me as much if they play hard and don’t hand the game to the opposing team with stupid penalties, special teams, and piss poor tackling.

Notre Dame is a great school and has a beautiful campus and I can understand how Truitt would be blown away on an official visit in September. To really understand what he would be in for he needs to drive around South Bend (which is a dump) and visit the place in late January.

Paul I agree. If I was recruiting for ND I would never bring a southern kid anytime after september anywhere near the campus.

Um, ah, um, CPJ told us last Spring that “Al Groh would be the difference maker in both D and recruiting” and so far, it is not showing up.

GT is going to lose to hapless NC and likely to Clemson and Va Tech ( humiliated by UGA in the Chic Fil A 4 years ago ) and to Miami and possibly to a MD or a NC State, while GT “looks ahead” to Duke or some body. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Then, in Athens GT will get the whuppin of their lives, for the 9th time in 10 years. This will validate that TREND LINE. Blue Carpet Bowl or worse for GT this year. Urange? Wait another 45 years for any major bowls ……………such is life at GT.

GT since the early 1950s has been traditionally a 6-4 type of team. Two Urange invitations and one Citrus invitation, since Esinhower was POTUS. These are the only so called major bowls for GT in this time period. That is amazing.

Even Joe Pa whupped Bobby Dudd in the Gator Bowl, cause I saw it. AAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAH

As badly as the Dawgs played Sat. They were still in the game.
Sorry tackling, no offense. the lines were manhandled by Carolina and …they were still in the game.
1) Murray did a great job and if allowed could have won it by having Bobo open the playbook a little wider.
2) Carolina could not really put the Dawgs away, if they are going to move up the ladder, Carolina will have to change that, or expect to lose to Alabama, Florida, and maybe even Auburn.

Dawgs need to regroup….the season is not lost, still much football to be played.
But there are plenty of reasons for concern. Time for the coaches to earn their salaries.

Lord help us all. UGA folks are now putting down Tech using the old “the team that beat us is better than the team that beat you” card? GT fans (most of whom actually went to the school, or had family that did) never allow their self esteem to be so tied up in W’s and L’s. It is HILARIOUS to read some of the posts that we Jackets are jumping off the CPJ bandwagon. Read the UGA blogs (with their pages and pages of posts). If things go bad in Athens Saturday (and we – and you – both know that they could) we could be looking at a Jim Jones style group suicide by the “faithful” dawg fans. Step back from the ledge.

One more thing. GT Trend, I have seen you post that same inane “…Dolly Madison…” comment under about 6 different names on these blogs. You are SO proud of yourself for coming up with this year’s version of “what?……chickenbutt,” aren’t you? Its one thing to be obnoxious; it another to be obnoxious and unoriginal.

The worst part is, I pull for UGA except when they play Tech; my state tax dollars go there…..

T.J. Jones gets second TD with Notre Dame

Tai-ler “T.J.” Jones is proving to be the real deal at Notre Dame. The former AJC Super 11 wide receiver from Gainesville got his second straight start for the Fighting Irish against Michigan this past Saturday and responded with three catches for 73 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown. In two games so far the 5-foot-11, 185-pound playmaker has six catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns. That’s an average of 19 yards per catch.

We need to keep the kid in-state. It doesn’t matter if he goes to GT or UGA as long as one of those get him. He is too talented to lose. I think both colleges need to hire better recruiters and UGA needs a OC very bad. The defense has to work out the kinks on both teams but Bobo’s playcalling and Richt’s handling of the team sucks. UGA needs a change to keep up with the times and Bobo is not it.
