Georgia Tech’s raid of Tobacco Road continued Monday as the Yellow Jackets landed their 13th commitment and third in a row from the state of North Carolina on Monday.

Tech received the pledge of defensive back Dominique Noble of Mount Ulla, N.C. the 6-foot-2, 187-pound cornerback had about a dozen offers but, in the end, chose the Yellow Jackets over Penn State.

“Yes, sir, I committed about 2 o’clock today,” said Noble as he prepared for practice at West Rowan High School Monday afternoon. “I’ve felt like Georgia Tech is where I wanted to go for a while but I just kept waiting and waiting. I decided I wanted to get it out of the way.”

Noble’s commitment came on the heels of one from linebacker Tremayne McNair (Jacksonville, N.C.) on Sunday and quarterback Vad Lee (Durham, N.C.) on Thursday. (in between the Jackets also landed OLB Darius Caldwell of Atlanta). Though they’re from different areas of North Carolina, the three prospects became friends during the recruiting process and decided as a group to bring their skills to The Flats. Airyn Willis, a quarterback/athlete from High Point, N.C., who committed to Tech earlier this summer, gives the Jackets four North Carolinians so far in the Class of 2011.

The group has been in cahoots.

“We’ve been kind of recruiting each other the whole time,” said Noble. “A couple of months ago Tremayne was thinking about going to North Carolina but I told him to hold off because he needed to look at Georgia Tech. I think it’s great that we’re all going there together.”

Noble believes Tech’s combination of academics and winning football can’t be beat.

“It goes hand-in-hand,” he said. “Academically they have one of the best engineering programs in the country. And they win games. That’s what I like about it.”

Noble said he feels like he’ll have an opportunity to play early at Tech.

“They’re losing their cornerbacks on both sides, so they expect me to play,” he said. “They didn’t promise anything. They said I’d have the opportunity but it’s up to me.”

What most UGA fans are in denial about is that we have, in the last 2 years, become the better program in the state. Last years game notwithstanding, GT has been more successful than UGA. We have a better coach and much better talent. This commit is a prime example. He is a top rated DB in the nation and has been compared to a young Deion Sanders, and he chose GT.

Typical Tech fan. Perfect handle. Uses a 2 year window to make a point, at the same time disregarding last year’s result. LMAO.

I am glad to know that .........

I am glad to know that GT is getting kids that other schools also want. That is the name of the game.

Will they pan out? Time will tell.

Could be a lot of truth in what Typical Tech Fan is saying. Why else would Ga fans be cluttering up the Tech blog? Could be that insecurity more than curiosity has them wondering if Tech has slipped up on them in the night and is ready to pounce on their little dawg shoulders come Nov.

bulldogmaniac– UGA’s most prized commit for 2011 is from North Carolina you dolt.

Over two yrs GT is better

To argue that GT is better over two yrs is as inacurate as saying that well, Japs bombed Pearl Harbor and won that ONE BATTLE ………it is over for the USA. No sir.

You look at such things in context of many years and in gulps of at least 5 or 10 years.

Over the last 9 years UGA has been to about 6 or 7 MAJOR BOWLS and GT has been the Orange. ONE other major for GT over 42 years with their last one in the Orange in 67 and another loss.

Get real GT fans and grow up and quit sniffing the arm pits of UGA men and trying to be cool in bars with that one itty bitty win over UGA in 08. We lost. You lost 8 of 9!!!

Paul Johnson is getting commits from the kind players that he could only dream of having at Georgia Southern, Hawaii and Navy.

Navy is a top 25 team this year with players that would be lucky if they were asked to walk on at any major program. And this is all because of CPJ. Tech is going to look like Navy x10. Good for us, bad for everyone else. Starting to get scary in Atlanta.

Big Boy

August 23rd, 2010
10:22 pm

So let me get this straight, Navy’s current success is because of their FORMER coach, but Tech’s current success is because of their PRESENT one? Funny how that works. So, Gailey gets no credit. News flash, if Chan hadn’t brought in Josh Nesbitt, Tech might just have a losing record in PJ’s first two seasons in Atlanta. There is NO WAY any other QB on your roster could have run that offense as well as he has. Josh Nesbitt will never be get the recognition he deserves. He, not Paul Johnson, has saved the skin of that program the past two years. And if Vad Lee doesn’t pan out real quick-like next season, everyone in Nerdsville is in for a rude awakening. I wish nothing bad to happen to Josh, but it would be a real treat to watch Tech play someone decent without him this season. It would be the funniest thing since The Hangover.

congrats tech. zero of your commits thus far had an offer from uga. congrats.

this kid looks like he’s 13 years old. congrats on getting that big time cornerback commitment.

i don’t know whose more excited about your recruiting class. tech fans or uga fans?!?! i’ll be honest, as a dawg fan, i’m absolutely loving that ga tech can’t pull a high recruit to save its life.

it surely is a good sign for the future that after tech’s best year in about 10 years, that they still have the same old mediocre recruiting class.

congrats.

vad lee is respectable at the 101st player on espn, but he’s a 3 star on scout.

if uga didn’t offer an in-state guy, it actually does mean that he isn’t that good. it means he’s not up to the level of play in the sec.

all of ga tech’s recruiting classes under paul johnson is littered by players who didn’t get offered by uga.

pretty much every uga commit the last three years has uniformly been offered by tech, even though tech rarely is in a top player’s top 3.

so lets get this straight. ZERO of your commits are rated as a 4 star on at least two of the three major recruiting sites……
