Mail call: Send in your AJC Recruiting Mailbag questions

mailbag(1)Normally the less mail I get the better I feel. But earlier this summer I started the AJC Recruiting Mailbag as a regular feature. My intention was to answer your submitted questions every Friday morning.

But lately there just simply hasn’t been enough submissions to put a mailbag blog together. So, going forward, it may have to be a whenever-there-is-enough-good-questions feature rather than a regular feature. We’ll see.

In the meantime, I need your help. take a minute to fire off some questions for me now. I have set up an email account just for this purpose. And have fun with it! I plan to.

I think I may have enough for a mailbag for tomorrow but not sure. So let’s hear from you to be sure.

Remember, the address is AJCrecruiting@yahoo.com. Save it in your address books.

C-ya on the flipside.

P.S. Sorry no Ten@10 this morning. Handling personal business. That definitely will resume next week and for the foreseeable future on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Looking forward to getting the season started this September on the Flats. Year # 3 under Paul Johnson should be another successful campaign for the Yellow Jackets. We’ll find out later today if Vad Lee wants to go to the Institute or NC State. For more Georgia Tech Football articles go to http://isportsweb.com. Go Jackets!

Nice classy start, fellas . . .

If you prefer, feel free to toss out a question or two right here in the comments section. I’ll consider that mail. . . .

Don’t forget, Georgia Tech target Vad Lee is supposed to announce his decision between the Jackets, N.C. State and Wake Forest today at 4 p.m.

Did Mr. Lemay let some inside information slip with his “Chris Conley and Ray Drew” comment the other day?I guess we now know who started the “James Wilder to Georgia ” rumors with the kid all decked out in red and black for his press conference.

So far GT has missed out on a few top prospects they had on their board. Who are the top players remaining for them to pursue and what are their chances of snagging some of these guys. Also, what effect has the new recruiting coordinators had on recruiting?

what LBs are still considering UGA? is UGA targeting any DT that they have a legit shot at? What about FB also? UGA loses 2 seniors at the position after this year.

Is Wilder still coming to UGA? Good thing Chip didn’t go to Tampa to record his announcement.

There’s a reason why Wilder is a standout in high scholl football.

He’ll be almost 20 years old before he graduates from high school.

Its like watching a grown man play against kids. Any 19-20 year old looks like a world-beater when runnng over a 16 year old.

For example, AJ Green and Washaun Ealy both
turned Age 20…BEFORE…their Fall classes started at UGA.

Most college students are GRADUATING from college at 21.
How is it possible to be a 20 year old Freshman on a football team?

How is it possible that we have athletes “graduating”
from high school just days before they turn Age 20.

Kind of makes AJ Green’s All-State High School records
really just a complete sham.

Chip:

can you offer feedback as how to there are athletes almost 20 years old, playing high school sports in Georia like Washaun Ealy?

Mr. Chip Towers,

I would like YOUR opinion on an issue that has Dawg and Jacket fans fighting like bees and dogs all over your blog, but you have never personally addressed.

The Question: Does the Triple Option offense run by Coach Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech have a negative effect on recruiting players who want to one day play in the NFL?

Let’s face it, and be real with ourselves. VERY VERY few players, especially 4-5 star talent, are concerned at all with the level of education they receive while in college. They view college as the final stepping stone to the glitz and glamor of the NFL. Tech fans on this blog have convinced themselves that they ONLY recruit academic minds who also have athletic ability. But in all honesty, they drool at the thought of getting ANY of the top recruits regularly going to UGA and other SEC schools in the region.

However, there is not a single team in the history of the NFL that has, or ever will, run the Triple Option. Do players realize this while Paul Johnson is serenading them to buy into his program? Have you ever spoken to a NFL scout and how they perceive the Triple Option?

I wish you would write a piece on this issue, and put some arguments to rest (yeah right). Fans of both schools will bicker about it until the internet goes out of style, so can we have a professional like yourself weigh in on it please.

Continue the great work Mr. Chip Towers.

Chip: Can you list top 10/5 underdog recuits in the State, player being looked at by UGA or Tech that are not talked about much. player that will be talked about after senior year.

Also Jeff Greene signed with Tech while you were out, be we have not received a good bio or interview with him. Can you update us on him.

Also who is Darrius Caldwell from Mays, is he good.

Jordan Luallen is leaving Tech, how does that impact recuiting.

A lot of top kids are being held back in eighth grade and earlier to take advantage of that extra year of physical growth, and I can’t blame them if they are ending up as some of the top prospects in the nation. Marcus Lattimore was almost 20 last year if I recall, there are a lot that do it and I don’t really know what to think of it.

Chip,
What are the targets at running back for Tech after Crockett?
Also has PJ ever thought of recruiting some even bigger WR’s, really tight end size, to help with blocking (B Thomas aside as he was a physical outlier)?
I know you need the element of a deep threat to take advantage of creeping corners, but in the red zone or 3rd/4th and short I would think it would be very beneficial. Maybe with the full 85 he can invest in this H-back type skill set for a future A-back on the flats? Or maybe I’m crazy.

Chip Towers have you heard anything on Damian Swann and is still good for UGA and what about Crowell now that Wilder is out plus any up date were Ray Drew is heading.

Chip Towers

ryan: Yes, I’ve been in touch with Damian Swann. It’s mainly a Georgia/Alabama deal for him though Florida’s trying hard to get into the mix. But he’s not likely to pull the trigger any time soon. He’s a pretty laid back kid and taking his time. . . .

Same deal on Isaiah Crowell and Ray Drew. Crowell recently said it signing day was today he’d sign with Dogs. But he’s not going to commit until after taking some officials. Ray Drew won’t likely make a move until NSD.

Chip, any word on Stephone Anthony from NC? also, how good a shot for UGA for Crowell since Brown to UT and Wilder to FSU? Is Wright still a lean to Auburn? Anything on Colquitt Co. DL and his lean? How many more of the top prospects in Ga does UGA have a shot or at least in the running for? Thanks, Chip. Also any word on top prospects from out of state also. The Wilder misinfo really hurt but I think it helps greatly with Crowell.

Chip, Ryan has a good question why is it we are not locking in on some of the gaineville high prospects just up the road from athens…We missed on Blake Sims, badly, and he would have been a dawg had we given him much attention…A.J. Johnson is a very good LB, seen him play several times, yes there are alot of LB’s on our radar that may be better, but appears to be a very good player…

Chip-Got any news on Quan Bray? Had heard he was an Auburn lean due to them liking him at RB a while back….UGA likes him as a slot WR I believe. The Bray front has been quiet for a couple of months. Dude is a player and a great get for any school.

Chip, have you heard from the UGA staff how many more slots do we have for the offensive line, and if it’s an either or situation should they take Xzavier Ward or Brandon Shell? Brandon looks a little soft but is higher rated, but Xzavier looks like he’s ready for the NFL.
