What are the biggest recruiting stories in August?

I’m back!

Sorry for the absence. I was out the last week or so dealing with some family health matters. I am happy to report that everybody is better now and slowly-but-surely getting back to 100 percent. I am sincerely thankful for the time off to deal with that and especially for the many kind comments, well wishes and prayers that were left for me here and sent via email and social media. It’s really appreciated.

I do feel the need to apologize. Not, of course, for leaving work to attend to my family’s needs. Any of you would do the same. But I do feel like I kind of abandoned the blog and left many to wonder what in the world was going on. Several people wrote in wondering where was their “Ten@10″ last Tuesday and Thursday and what happened to “The Mailbag,” etc. Clearly I could have done a better job of informing everybody what was going on. My sincerest apology.

However, my esteemed colleague Michael Carvell kept an eye on all things recruiting for us over at the “Prep Zone Blog.” Fortunately for him and for me it was not a terribly eventful time in recruiting the past week or so. But what there was to report he made sure got covered. In case you missed it, here are some of Carvell’s recruiting posts:

In the meantime, I’ve been somewhat out of the loop with regard to recruiting (even more than usual). I simply wasn’t in a situation to make daily phone calls or to pay very close attention to what was going on. So it’s going to take a short while for me to get back up to speed.

It’s here that I’m enlisting your help: Let me hear from you guys on what topics/subjects/recruits you want me to tackle first as I jump back in the saddle. Let me know what you’ve been hearing and seeing while I was away. I’ve got an extensive to-do list of my own and I’ll hit the ground running this morning to chase down as much as I can.

Of course, you can expect the Ten@10 to resume on Tuesday and Thursday as usual and The Mailbag will be back in all its glory this Friday. So don’t forget to email your Mailbag questions to AJCrecruiting@yahoo.com.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding. I’m glad to be back.

  • Follow me on Twitter
  • Find me on Facebook
  • E-mail specific recruiting questions to me at AJCrecruiting@yahoo.com. I’ll answer them in the “Mailbag” each Friday.

Chip, no need to apologize for taking care of your family. I’m glad to hear that your wife’s on the mend, and great to see you back.

Dawgs add big linemen Dantzler, DeBell, and Theus.. to an already good recruiting class that includes Lemay , Marshall, Conley, plus a couple really good DB’s and LB’s…. need a great RB like Crowell… Go Dawgs !!!

Any news on the rumors of Lemay wavering and thinking of switching to Clemson? Also, would like to know whats up with the big 3. Crowell, Drew, and Rome(where does uga stand with them currently). Also, should the dawgs give up on Ward at this point?

Please research the Wilder Jr. rumors. Word is, he’s down to UGA and FSU. Did he visit Tech campus yet? I know he’s not coming to Tech, I just don’t want to see him at UGA. My gut says there’s no way he goes to UGA; he’s going to be a Nole.

Great to have you back Chip. Glad everyone is doing well. Didn’t hear any news from the visits of James Wilder and Crowell from a couple of weeks ago or on the visit from Jay Rome. I think Drew is favoring Auburn and is encouraging other players like Tuitt to visit them as well. Auburn seems to be telling them what they want to hear. UGA seems to be losing the recruiting battle for some big time in state players. Also, is there any news on UGA signing any LBs and WRs.

Burke County….I know it happens from time to time but I don’t know why UGA would ever lose a recruit to Clemson?

1st – Glad your Wife is doing better.

An interview with latest GT commit Jeff Greene, WR. Did not get much info on him.

Also Quartterio Morgan has been out of school for the summer, how could his grade change from time he signed to now when they were on summer break, my guess is he was taking summer classes trying to upgrade a couple of classes. Hope everything works out for him, sounds like he really wanted to play for Tech.

Can you tell us about who Tech is now going to recruit in place of Quarterrio? Are there any other 4 or 5 star recruits that Tech will have any chance of landing?

It amuses me how Tech “fans” think underage drinking and scooter violations constitute a title of “Thugs”, when they have a DE (Robert Hall) who beat the crap out of his girlfriend.

Let’s hear it Techies, tell me how he was “wrongfully accused” or “misunderstood”…… If it was a UGA player you would be damning him!!

Good to have you back.

I’m really curious about one of our A-Back recruits, Romar Morris. He’s a blazing fast back from North Carolina and has been one of our top recruits for a while. I hear he’s now down to UNC and us. It would be huge if we could land this guy. I just was wondering if you know anything more about him. I heard he visited UNC over the weekend. When is he planning on making a decision and what are our chances with him at this time? I think he’s especially important right now with the potential loss of Morgan.

Also what other A-backs are we recruiting and where do we stand with them?

Crowell – UGA is in good shape.
Wilder – Down to FSU or UF. He has not been back to Athens since Dawg night. He has seen FSU and UF with family, not UGA. He reportedly posted getting close to a decision. UGA fans dont get your hopes up.
Drew – Auburn is making a move. Same can be said for Gabe Wright.
Rome – We are in good shape with him and the rumor of Lemay is false!

August 9th, 2010

My apologies – I didn’t know why you were on “vacation”. Taking care of a member of your family is more important than the vent and it is not really a vacation.

BurkeCounty, no, Lemay is not wavering, that is just some Clemson fan trying to start a rumor on a horrible site, BR.

Bdawg, Wilder didn’t make it a couple of weeks ago, he was supposed to be in over the weekend but I’ve got no update yet. Crowell and Rome both did and had wonderful visits, AGAIN. Wilder announces August 27 on ESPNU at halftime of his game and Crowell will either announce at his AA game or NSD. I still look for Wilder to be either FSU/UF.

News Man, I think AU pulls Wright in the end although he said last week that Ga fans ‘have nothing to be worried about’. But, you can never believe a word that kid says. He pumps the recruiting guys that are calling him, actually kinda funny, no offense Chip.

As far as Rome, I doubt AU pulls him. It’s still UGA/FSU for his services. He seems like a great kid.

The principal from LeMay’s high school has been suspended for her handling of the incident. Regardless of the outcome of the investigation as to how she handled things, she will not be returning to the school.

All you haters suck on that for awhile.

I know you won’t let the facts get in the way of your venom spewing.

Are y’all gonna wear black to our game again this year? I sure hope so; it made kicking your… oh, we don’t play y’all this year? damn!

August 9th, 2010
11:04 am

The principle in the Lemay incident is not the bag guy(gal). Actually quite opposite. The real story here in charlotte is that she was suspended by CMS schools b/c she didn’t report the incident quick enough or handle in a way befitting of her position. So if anything, she was trying to do him a favor by not throwing the book on an otherwise good kid. She knew Lemay was a good person from a good family. Is it wrong for the principle to handle things with common sense instead of just following the guidelines like a zombi? We need more common sense if anything!

Guess that’s why people don’t get breaks or second chances anymore. Try to act in a way you feel is appropriate(the principal) and then get burned for not handling the incident like a mindless cyborg by throwing the book at him.

August 9th, 2010
11:04 am

The fact that the principal lost her job over this reallly shows me how much football players get special treatment we all know if this was the average kid the principal would not be in trouble this is really sad

y’all have fun picking over our rejects… to paraphrase a movie quote, “If I want them, they will come”. we all know who is going to rule the SEC for several years to come; the rest of y’all can fight over second place…

August 9th, 2010
11:09 am

Maybe lucky21,

But if Lemay were some common thug that always gave the school problems, she would have gone by the book at reported quickly.

Fact is, she knew Lemay was a good kid, a good student, and loved by the students unlike most typical jocks. She simply tried to handle this with some tact and finesse and the jerk offs at CMS threw her under the bus for not being a typical-administrative prick.

This is why nobody wants to give other people second chances. They are scared of the consequences. Sad world.

Hired a Dooley to finally bring some class to k-ville.

The beatdown in Athens is coming hillbilly boy.

Go back into the 90’s and count the wins vs Goff if that makes you feel better. Facts are we have won 2 SEC titles since your last one in 98. Facts are that Richt is 5-4 vs the vols and is about to go 6-4. Facts are you hired a crook to coach your program, he got you into trouble and ran. Now it’s going to take a Dooley to get you out of the mess.

UGA owns the vols in every sense of the word.

A history less in coaches for the UT Thugs

August 9th, 2010
11:41 am

In about 1.5 or less than 2 years ……….Tennessee has had THREE football coaches. Fulmer, Blame and now Dooley’s boy.

Does this suggest a program on the ascendancy? Nope ………just the opposite. This factoid tells it clearly.

UT will have another head football coach within three more years ……. or less. Tha would make 4 coaches within 4 years. wow! This negative cycle for UT will go on for maybe 4 or 6 years or more.

Go Dogs.

PS Regas Steaks is great ……win or lose.

GT lost a QB recruit?

August 9th, 2010
11:46 am

Tech lost a QB? Was he even rated as sub regional all star?
I never heard of him. never heard of any of GT’s recruits so far.
Chan did the better job ………… the three gooduns he recruiited have left for the NFL and now tech is left with CPJ’s players. GT is in Trouble.

Go Dogs and um, ah, we are looking forward to 9 wins in 10 years and 12 wins in the last 16 games.

PS CPJ was still excited when he learned that Macy’s ran a two for one deal on red panties. He loves wearing them at night, lurking around GT’s campus.
