Where is James Wilder Jr. and why no Ten@10?

Sorry there was no Ten@10 or any other posts today. Unfortunately my wife had to be hospitalized yesterday and I’m having to tend to her needs right now. The AJC Recruiting Blog will resume asap.

In the meantime, just to keep the conversation going, what do you think it means that James Wilder Jr. did not show up at Florida’s “Friday Night Lights” camps this past Friday? Word is Jimbo Fisher kept Wilder and his family held up in Tallahassee at Florida State. Think it means nothing or shows a crack that FSU or Georgia could exploit?

And speaking of Wilder, one commenter asked, if you’re Georgia would you want Wilder at the expense of Isaiah Crowell of Carver-Columbus? They’re two different kinds of backs.

Like I said, we’ll try to get things up and running full steam as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

You should not read anything into the James Wilder not showing up at UF’s Friday Night Lights. He says he has seen enough of Florida and so has his family. He is evaluating others to see if they will change his mind about Florida. Until he says otherwise, you assume he is a lock for Florida unless he finally caught Meyer lying to him.

I would worry about Crowell and Wilder if one of them is going to commit. I would not give up Crowell at this point on Wilder because I believe he is still UF and you can end up losing both.

I’d rather have Crowell (if we could only have one…)

The fact that Wilder did not show could mean that he is a lock for Florida and does not need to see more. But we should never give up on someone we really want even after he commits. Tennessee did not last year and stole from us at the last minute.

Chip, this is trivial stuff, important, but your wife is more important! Take care of her and you can catch up later. Perry is correct!

….no mention of GT in this article. Wilder has plans for a full visit to GT as well…..and Wilder knows that GT was the first and only team to offer him as a RB. Don’t count GT out of the race yet!

A reporter reports, correct?

So you did what? Come onto the AJC (Not Chip Towers) Blog and tell us about your wife after we’ve all heard about your vacation, knee troubles and whatever else. Then you provide us with a link to somebody who is actually writing about what it is that we come here to read.

Awesome job today chip. I like you and your articles, but keep your personal business to just that, personal. And a meaningless garb link to a paid site is really just amazing.

Lastly, and this might be to personal, you might want to keep Michael Carvell mentionings out of your blog. He posts almost daily and has some pretty good articles on a consistent basis (you are the one who actually turned me on to him) It is always bad business to train your replacement.

Just sayin…

We want Crowell… come to Athens Isaiah !!! be a home state hero… Wilder will probably go to one of the Fla. schools.. I think student/atheletes have more success in sports and school at State U… closer to friends and family !!!

Go with IC. #1 he is from the state and we need to be hitting Georgia hard and eventhough Wilder is a former teammate of Aaron Murray and Orson Charles, he reminds me of a Richard Samuels type of guy. I’d rather have Crowell as he is a pure RB and Wilder is an RB/LB.

Chip, hope your wife feels better. I would like to see UGA get both of them. They would be a great combination of speed and power out of the back. With all of the other talent on UGA you could be talking about a NC in the next 4 years.

Can you say 3 year starter at B-Back averaging 1500 yards a year and then signing a big check as a first round draft pick in April of 2014.

James – go to Tech – get a first class education – win a national championship – the sky is the limit.

UGA should keep pursuing all RBs until they get a commit. If they keep focusing on just Crowell, they could be left out in the cold. The recruiters need to tell them what they want to hear because, we need RBs. We are not getting any of the offensive players that we need. Someone needs to pull their head out of their a## and get some players that we reallly need to continue with a winning program. Too many top RBs out there to just settle on one or two people. Need to recruit the top players harder.

UGA has no chance at Wilder Jr. or any recruits we want. Just like UGA has no chance in beating us but once 1 out of every 10

If you are ok with 1 out of 10, then you are a Laaaaaahoooooooser! Go Gators!

There is room for Crowell and Wilder as UGA almost always two backs in rotation and sometimes three. Right now UGA has 4 RB’s and one will be a senior next year.

how can you “run this country,” when you don’t even “run this state?” that’s like saying one of the losing republican candidates for governor at last week’s primary are actually now making decisions for the whole country instead. UGA out-rushed your rush oriented team. deal w/ it!

Barack Dawg,
Do you have first-hand knowledge of Meyer lying to recruits? If that was the case then how does he continue to sign top 10 recruitng classes year after year? I think we know who the liar is. Look in the mirror and you’ll find him.

As for the question, James Wilder Jr. will never come to UGA. I think he’d be great there but he seems to be bound for some school south of the Georgia state line.

The less said about Dawggie, the better. Tend to the family, Chip.

As for Wilder vs. Crowell. If I can only take one I’ll take Wilder. Big time backs pop up every year, but a guy with big time potential on both sides of the ball is rare. Take him as a RB and maybe you can talk him into a switch to defense in a year, or two, if you need him there.

Getting either of these 2 would be great, but I just hope the Dawgs don’t drop the ball on the real need. Coach Grantham and UGA need to recruit great defensive front 7 talent, period. Ray Drew should be the A1 priority for UGA. He is the type of player that can put a good team over the top. You see it year in and year out with these 5 star backs not panning out. It’s sexy to get the big name running back, but what UGA needs are all of these difference making defensive studs to stay home. Hopefully the staff realizes this.

Dawggie: Had a lot of folks wondering where the Ten@10 was and felt they deserved an explanation. Threw in an admittedly haphazard topic for conversation. Sorry you don’t approve. . . . And Carvell does a good job. That’s why I direct readers to his work. . . .

We_Run_This_Country: Probably should have mentioned GT in regard to Wilder but haven’t been able to get him or Wilder to say if or when they plan to reschedule visit.

So, why is the talk only about UGA and FSU breaking down UF’s strangle hold. According to recruting websites he canceled his fly by Tech visit and has rescheduled a full, 2-day visit in Atlanta. Remember, we’re the only school to have recruited him only as a RB from day one. We’re also a school where he knows he’ll get touches, yards and hype from day 1.
