Gone fishin’ . . . and other stuff

vacationgraphic1I’m on vacation this week. Where I’m going I’ll never say but there is a lot of white sand there and a lounger with my name on it. And no oil. At least they say there’s not going to be any oil. I’m praying there’s no oil or tar balls or any other kind of pollutants. We’ll see I guess.

In the meantime, feel free to discuss anything you like. I’ll have computer access where I’m going so, you never know, I may pop in to weigh in on something or answer a query or two. Probably not though.

Heading into the heat of summer, Georgia has 10 commitments and Georgia Tech has five. I’ll list them below and y’all can break it down.

And Georgia State’s situation continues to get more and more intriguing to me . On the heels of last week’s news that quarterback Star Jackson had transferred to State from Alabama, the Panthers announced the transfers of three more experienced Division 1 players. Offensive linemen Joseph Gilbert (6-2, 280)  and Clyde Yandell (6-5,287) of Georgia Tech and former Auburn tight end Bailey Woods (6-5, 234) are coming to GSU as graduates with eligibility remaining. All of them played extensively in Division I and they are some big boys to be banging around in the Football Championship Subdivision. Coach Bill Curry is going to make it interesting.

That is all for now. After a brief recharging I’ll be back on June 14 to continue my daily recruiting coverage. Until then . . .

GEORGIA

  1. C David Andrews (6-3, 276), Wesleyan School
  2. DE Sterling Bailey (6-4, 250), East Hall HS
  3. CB Devin Bowman (6-0, 175), Ridgeland HS
  4. WR Chris Conley (6-3, 185), North Paulding HS
  5. LB Amarlo Herrera (6-2, 215), N. Clayton
  6. QB Christian LeMay (6-3, 188), Matthews, N.C.
  7. DB Corey Moore (6-1, 185), Griffin
  8. DB Chris Sanders (6-0, 175) Tucker
  9. WR Justin Scott-Wesley (6-1, 190), Mitchell County HS
  10. WR Zack Witchett (6-1, 190), Atlanta-B.T. Washington

GEORGIA TECH

  1. OL Trey Braun, (6-5, 275), Tallahassee, Fla.
  2. OL Bryan Chamberlain (6-4, 280), Albany-Monroe HS
  3. LB Chaz Cheeks (6-3, 220), East Hall HS

CMR may want to start recruiting some hogs up front. It seems we can never have enuff off and def linemen. This class is shaping up to be one of the best ever maybe.

Stan,

Thanks for the great insight and advice to CMR. I’m sure he never even thought of recruiting OL and DL and you’re advice has probrably saved our recruiting year. He probrably had it on the board to recruit 10 wr’s 5 rb’s 6 lbs and 12 db’s.. I’m also sure it was a mistake that we’ve already signed a few OL’s and DL’s already. CMR was probrably thinking about revoking their scholarship offer until you wrote your insightful post.

I gotta give the nod to Stan on this one Anthony, I’ve felt in the past that not enough time and effort has been placed on finding and keeping the big blue chip trench warriors on the roster. I’m not saying that CMR needs to be “clued” in but I sure would like to see a few more big boys sign on the dotted line.

Al Groh needs to polish his Super Bowl ring. Wasn’t he supposed to bring in all the 5* recruits with his impeccable resume? Last year your defense was atrocious with (Gailey’s) NFL players. Next year looks like no immediate help. It must really be hard to be a Tech fan.

Auburn just got a commit from the #5 RB in the country and he is from Florida. Meyer is slipping. This should be good for UGA’s chances of getting Crowell. Auburn also has the #1 (or #2) rated RB from last years class. Saban feels a Tiger nipping at his ankles. We don’t need these SUPER conferences. It is not good for the student athletes. The MONEY grab is going to damage college football. Greed is not good.

Flo-Ri-Duh: actually it was Clemson who got the #5 RB in the nation over the weekend. UGA should be able to get a great back this year. To whose are worried O/D lineman recruits- we had a lot commit to the 2010 class.

Jack –
“It must really be hard to be a Tech fan.”
Stoicism helps until the season starts.

“And Russ is 2-0 with his a$$ painted white.”
Why not drop the rental? Get a new dog and name him Erk?

papadawg –
“The Blue Field will be waiting on the Bees this year”.
Maybe, but they changed the turf in the offseason to make it less glaring. It no longer looks like it is cut from tiny strips of metallic Christmas wrapping paper.

hipdawg – “3 months till football……way too long”

Hiram does a good enough job of looking bad by itself. Case in point- take a visit to their Hooter’s. They have the worst looking waitresses on earth. Most of ‘em would fit right in at any neighborhood Waffle House or Huddle House.

Wiley- STFU. What happened in the past, including the near yearly stomping the Jackets take at the hands of the Dawgs, doesn’t matter. Don’t tell me about what you have done- tell me about what you’re going to do. The Nerds don’t have a virgin’s shot in prison at beating the Dawgs this year. Now get to EB Games before your 12-close shift starts.

MORE FACTS: RICHT 20-12 LAST 4 YEARS IN SEC.4-4 IN SEC LAST YEAR. 69% WINNING PERCENTAGE IN SEC.NO TITLE GAME IN 5 YEARS! NO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP LIKE TENNESSEE, ALABAMA,LSU, AND FLORIDA IN 30 YEARS! FOUR COACHES SAID NO TO THE DEFENSIVE POST! EVEN KIRBY SMART “REJECTED” THE CHANCE TO HELP GEORGIA. IT MAY BE TIME FOR RICHT TO GO. WE TALK ABOUT DREAM TEAMS WHILE ALABAMA & FLORIDA LIVE IT! WHY CAN’T GEORGIA BE A CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM LIKE ALABAMA & FLORIDA?

I was never a UGA fan in high school. I didnt really have a team in high school…I started pulling for Tech after I enrolled. Thought you would remember that Jordan? King Donko…say what? lol What team just went to a BCS game last year? Im pretty sure that GT vs UGA will be like it always is…a close game that is decided in the very end. 2002 is the only year in recent memory where it has not been a close game..but yeah you “stomped” us. lol
