Pineville, N.C. – With Ray Charles‘ famous ballad “Georgia” playing in the background, Christian LeMay announced that he intends to become a Bulldog.

The Matthews, N.C., quarterback chose the Georgia Bulldogs over a final three that included Clemson and Texas A&M. Notre Dame and Auburn were among the final five of about 35 major-college offers.
“Every time I went there I just felt good about it,” said Butler, who visited UGA at least five times since last summer. “It was also the fact that every time I went there and left I couldn’t get it off my mind. I was constantly thinking about it and how I fit there, how Coach Richt is. Me and him share the same personal beliefs. But also competing at the top level and trying to be successful in our Christian walk as well as on the football field.”
LeMay pointed out to the standing-room-only crowd that he was wearing an orange shirt andasked how many Clemson Tigers there were “in the house.” A few folks clapped and he laughed before pulling out a Butler Bulldogs hat. Then the music was cued as he pulled out the Georgia cap and put it on to hardy applause. The Butler High School cheerleaders followed the announcement with a UGA cheer.
LeMay (6-3, 200) made the announcement before a standing-room only crowd of 200 or so at the Champion Christian Center, the church pastored by his father, The Rev. Stacy LeMay.
“He could have made this announcement anywhere but he wanted to do it in the house of God,” the elder LeMay said.
LeMay is the No. 2-ranked quarterback in America, according to Scout.com, the only recruiting service to rank rising seniors so far. He is a pro-style quarterback and put up some eye-popping numbers as a junior at Butler High.
LeMay completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 3,296 yards and 44 touchdowns and only two interceptions while leading Butler to an undefeated season and the Class 4A state championship in North Carolina.

One person that has seen LeMay a lot is Tom Luginbill, national recruiting director for ESPN. He’s covered two of his games and analyzed hours of video on LeMay.
“The most attractive trait that LeMay possesses is one you cannot coach and that is a lightning quick, ultra smooth delivery,” Luginbill told me. “He can get rid of the ball so quickly and he is extremely accurate. He possesses just adequate height, but he is well built and there is plenty of room for frame development. He could play any scheme; he’s not just a spread guy.”
LeMay said he plans to take an active role in Georgia’s recruiting.
“First off, I’m looking for the quarterback’s best friend, the ‘Big Pretties,’” LeMay said, referring to offensive linemen. “I don’t like to call them the ‘Big Uglies;’ I heard they don’t like that. So we need to get some linemen, of course, and get some receivers. Hopefully we’ll get [wide receiver] Charone Peake [of Roebuck, S.C. ], that’s a guy I really like and we have a good relationship. So hopefully he’ll come with me. I’d really love to play with him and have him to throw to.
“I’m really excited about another player, Christian Conley, him being another Christian as well, literally in name and also in his faith. I think is a great thing that two boys like us will be there playing football together.”
Conley, a wide receiver from North Paulding High, has already committed to Georgia . Along with LeMay that gives the Bulldogs’ seven commitments for the 2011 class.
LeMay explained his philosophy of naming a “leader” rather than calling it a “verbal commitment.”
“The word commitment has become kind of watered-down in recent years because so many people change their minds and de-commit and coaches leave like they did at Tennessee and USC,” LeMay said. “But it still holds a lot of value for me. So my announcement today means Georgia is the school I plan to enroll in unless something drastic happens. Unless Coach Richt or Coach Bobo is gone or something crazy like that, I’m a Georgia Bulldog.”

“Unless Coach Richt or Coach Bobo are not there, or something else unforeseen happens, I will be a Georgia Bulldog.”
Ok. We can keep Mike Bobo.
National Junior Football Player of the Year according to MOST publications has chosen Coach Richt and The University of Georgia based upon the hook-up between Coach Richt and Christian LeMay.
17-year old Junior from North Carolina talks to Coach Richt about Life this week not football, and decides this is the place for the Quarterback who is going to enroll January 1 in time to play in the next G-Day Game next year. He will be the best QB on campus January 1, as he leaves Butler in December.
Florida, Louisiana State, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, Miami of Florida, Texas A&M, and Clemson all rather figured they had him.
His announcement came from his Church at 7 p.m. last night.
This legitimizes our Recruiting Class for 2011. A group of wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, and offensive linemen will follow this announcement with great interest and hope to join him here.
There is no way he Redshirts next year. He will not be here 4 years. He said he will Redshirt, but you have to look at the man, as that is his nature to say that, all the while inside he is burning it up to get ready for the 2011 season. Send him the playbook now. This will save Mike Bobo’s On-The-Job-Training.
It is what this football program has needed for 4 years before this 2010 season we must do without him.
State Champion 15-0 Butler High School North Carolina last year as a Junior, LeMay is the Gatorade Player of The Year in North Carolina. Now he has his Senior Season, and then January 2011, here.
2 Interceptions and 44 Touchdown Passes last season for the State Championship, he is a Pro Style Quarterback.
Christian also brings with him 2 younger brothers Uriah, Sophomore, and Benny 3 years behind that, and both of them will look hard here as well. Uriah could be the Starter this season at Independence, as their home becomes Independence District without them moving.
Coach Richt has gone into North Carolina and stolen their top talent every single year. Charlotte is just up I-85 from Athens, more than an hour, less than 2.
There is no question that Jeff Driskel is 2 inches taller, 25 lbs heavier, and frankly not as quick as Christian LeMay, but where the real difference is, is that Christian LeMay has a much stronger Pro-Style Arm.
It’s a 50-million dollar NFL arm.
Christian LeMay is considerably taller than Aaron Murray and faster. He is also quicker and has a better arm. In addition, he does line up under Center. Christian LeMay sort of commits and sort of doesn’t, but generally is considered to have committed, if we keep Mike Bobo, keep Coach Richt which was assured all along, and if nothing unforeseen happens – not exactly sure what that means, but Coach Richt I would certainly take that to mean, were I you Coach Richt, do NOT get another Commitment at Quarterback between April 30, 2010 and January 2011 when he enrolls.

Our Offensive Commitments for 2011 Recruiting Class were really looking poorly again, just as they did in 2010. The Defensive Commitments for the 2011 Recruiting Class were looking Fantastic again, just as they did in 2010 after bringing in 11-year NFL Veteran Todd Grantham as our Defensive Coordinator. I still think our Running Backs’ coach and our Wide Receivers’ coach, need to switch positions. I am also totally unimpressed by the Quarterback coaching our Tight Ends, given our production at Tight Ends his 1st season with not 1 single Tight End catching more than 5 passes all of 2008 with Matthew Stafford, and especially given the fact that it took him until Game 12 of our 13-Game Season again last year to determine to start Orson Charles who only had 20 more catches his Freshman Year last year than Aron White (defending Zach Mettenberger) caught his freshman year 2008.
This changes everything.
THIS is the Most Significant Football Player to come to Georgia.
Mike Bobo, say thank you.
This is going to be fun the next 3 years starting January.
Hey vols, you did NOT get him.
Neither did Alabama, Louisiana State University nor Florida.
We are going to sign some big-time Recruits on Offense now for 2011.
Isn’t it amazing how 1 Player can change how you view the whole entire Program.
We will not be 3-8 over the next 11 games against Top 10 Final AP Poll teams, not after January. Aaron Murray needs to hope that he doesn’t get injured again, because Christian LeMay is bigger, better, stronger, faster and far more accurate with a far better arm and quicker than Aaron Murray.
He will be on the field 9/3/2011 ‘Tween The Hedges against Louisville, the week after against South Carolina, the week after that against Coastal Carolina, go on the road for the 1st time in his career against Ole Miss the week after that – all in September 2011.
When you throw only 2 Interceptions and 44 Touchdown Passes as a Junior in High School, Under Armor All-America Quarterback, you are certainly a Pro-Style Quarterback. And, Matthew Stafford was the # 1 Pick in the NFL Draft with nearly $ 50 million Guaranteed Dollars last year here, never mind what he did not do here on the field for us. In fact, that says more about us than anything that despite the fact that Matthew Stafford sucked here at UGA, he still was the # 1 NFL Draft Pick – just as he had been announced to be coming out of High School.
Guess what ?
So is Christian LeMay, and I predict great success for Georgia with Christian LeMay starting January.
He certainly has an Infectious Smile.

We will NOT be Number 21 in Scout.com Recruiting Rankings 2011 now, like we were this 2010 season, and we will NOT be Number 15 in Rivals like we were for this 2010 season either, because we will sign Significant Offensive Players now with Christian LeMay saying unless something happens, he is coming here. Thank you Coach Richt. I hope he can beat Florida a couple times.

Recruiting season is always the highlight of the year for a Dawg football fan. It only gets worse when September arrives — and self-destructs when late October and early November brings Jacksonville. If Urban has a week to prepare for anemic poodle offense, watch out. Keep your Halloween costumes handy so that you will not be recognized a a poodle fan.

I want you to listen to the contrasts in these quotes which I think illustrates the difference in the mentality of a Georgia “commitment” “current leader for my services” whatever vs a Florida commitment……….Christian LeMay said, “It just pretty much fit everything I want to do and hopefully they’ll propel me to the next level”. Last years top rated Florida commit Ronald Powell, “We have a great class coming in and we are playing to win and playing to win championships, period.”………….. A classic case of “I” and “me” vs “We”….But I guess if your highest priority is to see your players move quickly on to the NFL and hopefully sign a big fat contract, then you would really like that first quote But if you like to see your players win championships and THEN have the opportunity to go on to the NFL, then you might like quote #2.

Hey, Dostoyevskiy – Florida had several top CLASSES (not player, whole class, borscht-breath) and didn’t even win the SEC last year, even WITH Tebow Almighty.
I guess they severely underachieved last year. See how poor an argument that is?
Jamie Harris and Jumpin Joe were from the area

Over the last 40 years, UGA has recruited tons and tons of QBs from the Carolina area and not one even came close to panning out. Spartanburg area turned out more than a couple for UGA as QB and nada, zilch resulted.
Jamie Harris came from southern VA and until he transferred to mighty Wake Forest about his 5th year, he was only fair. Carnie Norris, a ALL WORLD running back in the late 70s and early 80s played running back at UAG behind Walker and he was never what he was supposed to be. He was small but he was SLOW. Fair blocker, I think for Walker, he was.
We now have one player at UGA that is great and he REALLY IS great. To my humble knowledge AJ is the ONLY Carolinian to ever pan out for UGA. Daniel Ellerbee? Trinton S. has been hurt.
This young man sounds fabulous. I know that he is a man of faith and also a man of exceptional QB ing skills. I say WELCOME ABOARD. UGA needs two more great QBs to come and compete. What we do not need is another Blake Barnes deal from Mississippi ………the ALL WORLD QB kid who transferred after 3 years on the bench.
Go Dogs.

Another player to be sorely undercoached to a mediocre career. We know why Matt Stafford left early, he knew his coaching staff was a waste of Oxygen so. Good luck with your 2 10-win seasons Christian and also congrats on being part of another UGA class that will earn the title as disappointing in 5 years.

Um, ah, your comment about the I vs Me is somewhat correct, IF you wanna “see” every thing that you seek for your particular program, in a young man’s comments.
The young man ALSO stated that he IS actively involved in assisting the UGA staff into calling and recruiting the blue chips. Buck Belue did that in his day and to this day, I know that because of Buck’s personal initiatives, UGA landed some major talent to make that NC run. That history of Belue is not well known but it is one example of many positives about Buck that led to the NC and the THREE SECs in a row.
LEADERSHIP is what I got from the young man’s press conference. The NC kid sounds enthusiastic and hungry. These are THREE KEY issues that I heard in his comments.

I would honestly rather be thrid in the SEC than ACC Champ., because third means the Cap One Bowl and possibly #8 and ACC Champ means # 14 or 17th, depending on whether you are reading the AJC or the Chicago Tribune or the St. Louis Dispatch. It also means playing the Urange Bowl in front of 34,000 fans from the mid west.
ACC Champ never has any respect beyond SE USA …….Durham, Charlotte, Winson Salem, Charleston and Richmond. Atlanta is SEC country. Too many UT grads, UGA, Auburn, Bama, LSU, MSU or Ole Miss or FLORIDA fans and tons and tons of KY fans. ACC is second fiddle here.
This is WHY techies are salivating to get back in the SEC right now. The truth hurts GT 51. Dodd ran from the SEC and the over 50 crowd are ashamed by the ACC.

13 NATIONAL TITLES – 22 SEC TITLES!!!
Again – good start to this years recruiting class – but I disagree with some of the above posts – and this is only my opinion – the GAP in talent level at UGA and Florida is there.
Florida has done a great job in getting the talent that fits their offensive and defensive schemes.
UGA also has very good talent – but the DEPTH in DEVELOPED talent the difference.
Also – you have to have more than raw talent – you have to develop the talent – both physically and mentally – raising their football IQ. Not only do the players need to fully understand their position – and how to play that position – but those around them as well. The big picture.
Then last but not least – you have to get everyone on the same page – develop a cohesive unit – a focussed TEAM that works as a unit – and understands their strategy for each game against each unique opponent.
This is where SABAN and URBAN have excelled – taking in great talent that matches up well to their schemes – making them better players – making them smarter players – and making them a cohesive unit – with developed DEPTH – and being prepared for each game.
It all starts with talent! – then coaching takes over!!!
I am not down grading UGA at all – I think UGA is on the CUSP of a VERY GOOD YEAR. I thnk that some talent does not develop – and these things obviously go in cycles.

The way I see it, you guys making all the negative comments are just a bunch of “Think you know it all-College Football-couch potatoes.” This young man, like everyone else, deserves a fair chance to prove himself, (especially since an ESPN announcer, someone who truely knows the game of Football, decided he wanted to follow this young man). As far as UGA averaging 1 arrest per week (stated by UGASUX), maybe this young man can be that change that UGA needs. He obviously has leadership traits if he is already starting to influence other great high school players to join him in UGA, and he isnt already a senior yet.

CHARLOTTE DAWG: “I doubt we’ll get Marshall now with Lemay. Not many blue chippers like a stacked depth chart.”
No disrespect to you, but if blue chippers don’t like stacked depth charts, then why do they continue to go to USC, Fla, TX, and Ohio St. One can’t be afraid to compete against the best in wanting to be the best. Mr. Marshall will face that at UGA, FSU or anywhere else he chooses to go. USC gets a top HS QB every year, just because you’re a back up doesn’t mean one can’t make an NFL roster.
There’s enough recruits in the state of Georgia for both UGA and GT to be stacked year-in and year-out, IMO, it just takes both institutions to focus on that, which they now are. To go outside the state, should be the exception…Welcome Christian LeMay.

I can see UGA going to a 2 QB system like Green/Shokley has done so well. Lemay could start getting put in in package situations like DJ did at first, then maybe a full on 2 QB rotation the next season during the season, and if a clear #1 emerges, then give it the guy who earns it against real bullets, let that QB get the most plays. The #2 should always get 25%+ of the plays, because you never want to start the next year with a guy with 0 experience. The 2 QB system is one way to make it work with 2 stars on your team. If you do it effectively with RB’s, why not QB’s?
