Christian LeMay’s church buzzing with excitement

Pineville, N.C. — I’m now here at the Champion Christian Center in Pineville, N.C., where quarterback Christian LeMay is to make his college announcement at 6:30 p.m.

Christian just arrived with his parents, The Rev. Stacy and DeNae LeMay, and his not so little brother Uriah (a rising sophomore and future prospect as a wide recevier). Mr. LeMay, who used to be the team chaplain at Florida, showed up in a Gators’ shirt. But he’s changing before the show.

I beat them here by about an hour or so. A notoriously paranoid traveler, I left early in case I got lost or got caught in the almost-as-bad-as-Atlanta traffic of metro Charlotte. There were no snafus, so I came into the store-front church with friends and family here to set up for the big announcement.

I’m not going to give away any secrets here but based on the signing table set up outside the sanctuary, LeMay’s final three is in fact Georgia, Clemson and Texas A&M. A family member confirmed that observation. So a half-hour out, Notre Dame and Auburn appear to be the losers so far.

I’ll be posting a story just as quick as I can once Christian, the No. 2-quarterback in the country according to the recruiting analysts at Scout.com, makes his announcement public.

Meanwhile, here’s a few photos of the setup (before actual people showed up, and now there’s close to 100):

This is the outside of the store-front church. That's Christian's parents Stacy and DeNae on the sign.

The telling table (if you can see through the blur): Clemson, Texas A&M and Georgia (l-r)

It's a pretty snazzy set-up here, complete with video board.

It’s us… I means UGA. If it were one team that I thought would beat us out its Auburn. I see he has eliminated them, so welcome to the DawgPound Christian. Can’t wait for G-day 2011 to see you in person. HunkerDown!

If Auburn’s out of the picture, then he is a Dawg for sure. His Dad sure has good taste in shirts, don’t you think?? Just think, he could have followed in the footsteps of Chris Leak at UF. But we’re very very happy with the early commitment of Jeff Driskel down here. That could be an interesting matchup in the future.

Don’t count those chicken,

Don’t sound so depressed, I don’t want anyone to come to UGA that doesn’t want to be a Bulldog. Our recent recruiting class was still top notch and will ad depth to our areas of need (the d-line and OLB). We could use a receiver or two in case of injury but to be honest we really only used four or five receivers last year and we have 7 not to mention the fact that will be spreading out our tight-ends at receiver (who are all good pass catchers, have a bigger frame and are fast) so we’ll be fine. HunkerDown!

Chip, I wish you would monitor your article blog and delete simpleton slurs like the one poste by “big dawg” right above me. He doesn’t sound like a Dawg at all. Insults like this are an insult to all of us.

Dawgs can’t be proud of the way this went down. Too, too cheesy! But then again, people who paint their pates the color of their favorite school, as well as emblazing the school logo atop the pate, well, what else would you expect. That said, good luck to the Dawgs and Christian.

Whatever Dostoyevskiy…
Don’t HATE the PLAYA. Hate your School. Let’s see…Why would UGA not be proud of how this went down?
1) With Mettenberger gone (who was my favorite), it’s wide open for 2nd/3rd string, or even starter in 1-2 years. Much better chance of playing than most other MAJOR programs.
2) PRO-STYLE offense…Name a better DIV-1 program for developing NFL ready QB’s. If you want to rebute, take a look at this link(http://www.detroitlionsblog.com/wp/archives/2009/10/14/phil-simms-view-matthew-stafford-as-nfls-best-young-qb-prospect/)
3) CMR – In case you didn’t notice…his name is “Christian”, his dad is a Reverend and a former chaplain at FU (oops I mean UF). Richt’s self proclaimed biggest influence in life was Boby Bowden (who brought him to know Christ).
Guess what, his family is comfortable with his potential to play at a high level, in a pro style offense for a coach with a strong unashamed Christian background…
I’d hardly say the Dawg’s aren’t proud. In fact, here’s to hoping that Christian follows through on his word and brings along some other top talent, many of whom likely also share his passion for Christ.
Goooo DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, they should be buzzing with excitement about this kid going to play for CMR, leader of men. Meanwhile another one of his players pled guilty today, this time for sexual assault. At UGA you can end up going to the NFL or to the pokey. Who wouldn’t want their son to go to UGA??

Read this post while it lasts before Chip deletes it too.
