Pope’s Thomas O’Reilly gets Under Armour All-American call

Pope offensive lineman Thomas O’Reilly received an invitation this week to become an Under Armour All-American.

If he accepts it he will play in the the Under Armour All-American high school all-star game next January in St. Petersburg, Fla.

But O’Reilly hasn’t accepted the invitation just yet because he said he is also a nominee for U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio, Texas, around the same time.

So what’s he plan to do?

“I think I’m definitely leaning toward the Under Armour for a few reasons,” O’Reilly told me. “One of the big ones is two other linemen that are committed to Auburn right now are playing in it.”

That would be center Reese Dismukes of Spanish Fort, Ala., and guard Spencer Region of Cullman, Ala. Along with O’Reilly the three linemen form the nucleus of yet another impressive class for Auburn. Coach Gene Chizik’s Tigers put together a top five class last year.

O’Reilly, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound guard, chose Auburn over Georgia Tech, Florida State and Mississippi State, among others, earlier this month. He was a Class AAAAA first-team all-state selection by the AJC as a junior last season.

“I actually had my mind made up a while ago,” O’Reilly said of choosing Auburn. “After I went to their junior day back before national signing day I told them I wanted to do it right then but I had to talk to my parents first. I knew from the beginning that’s where I wanted to be.”

When you have the kind of football we play here in Georgia; it’s impossible to keep them all. Gillislee, you must be from Tenneshee, where you don’t have that issue. Go Dawgs!!

In the words of Judge Smails, “The world needs ditch diggers too, son”
“grew up a GA fan, but never received an offer” let’s see… we are still 10 months out on signing day…sometimes the 10 girl doesn’t rush into your arms son. She usually has options but if your patient she just might say yes. Trust me Aubbie would have been there 10 months from now.
Good luck and AJC quit with trying to paint UGA as the bad guy here. There will be 100’s of D1’s that won’t get UGA offers nor UF noe BAma nor Tech nor…you get the picture and I am sure some of those kids grew up big fans of each the respective programs and they won;t get offers from their “favorite” team. Hey with 20 or so schollys you have to target needs and based on what I have seen UGA has OL targets that they feel better fit what they want or need. Get back with me in 3 years. Next!!!

Oh and by the way UGA currently has a starting center who grew up in AL, wonder who his “favorite” team was growing up??? It was kind of fun watching King and Ealey run over Aubbie right over the AL natives back!!!! Guess Aubbie sux at recruiting in their own state huh???

You know Aubbie has that “Tiger Prowl” rolling now. It’s kind of like Old School where they pull into town and grab anybody they can (even 80+ year old men) to pledge to the fraternity. Yeah that’s the picture…complete with croachs in Tommy Bahama bowling shirts…yep that’s a real first class image there BARN…First Class.

Big time tech fan: This isn’t an ACC blog and AU blows. AU and GT got beat by the worst team UGA has had in 12 years and you think they are going to be elite. What a maroon!

UGA is looking for tackles – not guards.

You have to give out scholarships to areas of need and UGA has other positions that need focus on for this year’s class. OG is not a need for the 2011 class.

With limited scholarships – certainly there are kids out there you wish you could offer!

I agree that Auburn maybe taking over LSU for SEC WEST #2. More likely to happen in 2011 – but could happen this year. LSU is playing at Auburn.

I do not agree that UGA will pass Florida this year. Florida has reloaded – again. Has had several tremendous recruiting classes – and they do play their depth.

UGA should have a very good year as well – SEC #2 – in position for double digit wins – could happen! I have a good feeling about UGA in 2010 – which will help with recruiting – this class 2011 – but real impact will be class of 2012.

Ready for kickoff!!!

Stock Report:
UGA Stock – declining
UT stock – bottoming out
AUBURN stock – rising
LSU stock – flat
AL stock – has peaked – working to maintain
FL stock – invest!!! invest!!! invest!!!

Auburn seems to be building – wish we played them more often – always a clean hard hitting game. Auburn will challenge LSU for #2 SEC this year.

Bulldogs will get pounded – yes, pounded – I mean really pounded at the Gator Cocktail Party AGAIN this year. Richt is a good man – a good coach – but he is not Elite. Did Jim Donnans teams suffer as many blowout losses to Tennessee and Florida as Richt teams of late have? It’s all mental – UGA expects to lose in JAX – and it becomes a reality. Zook beat that Richt butt in Jax! Urban has flat crushed the dogs – what was the score last year????

Florida and Alabama aspire to be national champions.
Georgia aspires to be better than South Carolina and Kentucky!

Any takers on the game in JAX this year?? NO??? NONE???

Yes we (Georgia) have plenty of talent but All Americans are special and in state schools must do everything possible to keep as many of them in state as possible. Go Gators!

2010 Under Armour All Americans – 12 players from Georgia, 3 stayed in state. 1 to Ga tech and 2 to Georgia.

2010 Army All Americans – 3 players from Georgia, 1 stayed in state. 1 to Georgia.

Welcome to Auburn Mr. O’Reilly, and War Eagle! You made a good choice in coming to Auburn, a school that holds the lead in the all-time series against UGA.

First team 5-A all-state as a junior, UA and Army AA but the Dawgs couldn’t use him? Riiiiight.

UGA recruits come in as 4 and 5 star recruits, and leave as 4 and 5 star felons – instead of counting how many players UGA sends to the NFL, we should count how many they send to prison – they would win in a landslide

As a Dawg fan and someone in marketing, I think the Tiger Prowl Idea is pretty damn good. With the bus they are using this year just riding all over that area and then a big gathering that night, it is great marketing idea. You will notice that both UGA and FSU have copied Auburn some this year by sending all of the coaches together to some of the major schools.
At Talledega Alabama had a car completely covered in the Bama Crimson. Another great idea. National TV coverage.

Gator Bob, you may be right, the dawgs might get pounded again, but since you know how the season will play out then why should we even play the games..It amazes me how many gator fans are pounding their chest like they are the greatest..Well you were handed it on a platter by Bama last year but i’ll give you some credit, you made it to the title game, the dawgs didn’t, but when things do turn and trust me they will lets see how much you run your mouth then…I apologize to the other gator fans but the ones like GatorBob just run their mouth…I’ll reserve judgement on what happens in Jax until the game is played. If they beat us again, then more power to you, but the constant pounding of your chest Tarzen Gator Bob is getting old…Everyone is aware of the fact that the gators have the dawgs number right now..Oh by the way we still lead the overall series, but what does that really matter..Answer: it shows that over the years the dawgs have had your number…Of course really doesn’t count because its what have you done for me lately..You may beat the dawgs again this year because i truly believe we are a year away from having a great team, but the gators will be vulnable, maybe not to the dawgs, but you will be had this year by some teams that will turn the tables on you…Can’t wait to see that happen.

Coach Johnsons Paul needs to get his facts correct. The parents of your Ga center both went to Ga, but lived in North Al. Ala was NEVER on his list of schools & was not offered by Ala. He went to Al camp but they had higher linemen on the board.
