Christian LeMay, the No. 2 quarterback in America per Scout.com, will announce his “leader” to the college football world next Friday in Pineville, N.C., LeMay’s father said today.
Stacy LeMay, Christian’s father, said his son will make the announcement before friends, family and assembled media at the Champion Christian Center, where he is lead pastor, at 6:30 p.m. They will also name two other “finalists.” The University of Georgia, he said, has a very strong chance of being among them.
“As of right now Georgia is one of the teams he really likes,” Mr. LeMay said.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound LeMay, who has more than 20 offers, has the Bulldogs in his top five along with Clemson, Auburn, Notre Dame and Texas A&M
So why announce a “leader” and not just commit somewhere? The Christian-values family does not want to mislead or misrepresent by saying “commitment.”
“The word commitment means a lot to me and I’m not going to say it unless I mean it,” LeMay said.
Stacy LeMay said it’s mostly a matter of semantics. But since they still plan to make official visits in the fall, commitment is too strong a word.
“It’s the school he plans to attend,” he said.
Nonetheless, they say “leader” carries a lot of weight. Christian, an early enrollee, plans to take an active role in the recruiting for whatever school he decides on.
“He’d like to influence some of the top players in the country,” Stacy LeMay said. “A lot of them have been calling him and asking him what he’s going to do. They’ve been communicating with each other.”
LeMay was named the North Carolina player of the year after leading Butler High to the state championship as a junior last season. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound LeMay threw for 3,296 yards with an astonishing 44 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
