Georgia lands commitment No. 6 in Devin Bowman

I’m still out on a medical leave but I wanted to make sure anyone who came here looking for the latest recruiting news saw where Georgia landed another commitment.

The Bulldogs landed No. 6 for 2011 in Ridgeland athlete Devin Bowman on Saturday. AJC high schools reporter Michael Carvell has the story on his Prep Zone Blog. A lot of schools offered Bowman as a running back but he’s agreed to play cornerback for Georgia.

Bowman’s commitment came on the heels of Friday’s announcement from North Paulding wide receiver Christian Conley that he’d decided on UGA. So suddenly recruiting is rolling for the Bulldogs here in late April.

I should be back in the saddle on Monday. At the current rate there could be at least a couple more commitments by then.

Hopefully folks will remember this next February. Seems UGA always locks up most of its class early and then we all have to listen to the hand wringing from some who demand UGA “close strong”. LOL

Chip – seriously man, I appreciate the dedication but you take this time you need to chill. I want you back a full strength ASAP. That way, when I give you the business, I won’t feel bad.

BTW, these are all real nice recruits, but are any of the big-time recruits we are targeting ready to pull the trigger?

Listen people you have the wrong coaches, anytime you cant beat the top teams in the division then its time to move on.Many times Ga should have beat Fla but the sorry play calling(Bobo)and the foolishness of fake punting that destroyed your team shows that Mark should be fired and with all the recruiting Ga does its no excuse

Florida cant beat teams from Missisippi, has trouble beating teams without help from refs and the most talent laden team ever in the SEC lost by 4 touchdowns to a team that nearly lost to a freshman quarterback in their next game. Hey I guess I would be heavily medicated and physcho screaming at reporters too.

mark and bobo beat fla twice and will do it again soon enough. no worries here and no way UGA gets rid of mark richt and company. they win too much and are on their way up. where fla has nowehere to go but down..the tide is changing really soon. fla has always had good players but i still dont think meyer will do good now that tebow is gone.

Mitchell County’s Justin Scott won the 100 meters and the 200 meters at the Westover Relays track meet here in Albany Friday. Scott is a WR prospect and he says he is leaning toward the Dawgs after backing out of his commitment to Stanford. Scott is also being recruited by GaTech, Maryland and Vanderbilt, and others. Scott won the state finals in the 200 last year and is reputed to be the fastest football player in the state.

one more commitment in the next week and we’re right on schedule for about 25 signees. How many enroll early. This would make about 3 that said they would want to enroll early from the 6 we have signed.

This is the start to another stellar recruiting class from CMR. Recruiting is on the way up. Offensively, things should be much improved with 10 starters returning and WE carrying the ball for a full season. Defensively, i expect much improvement. It may take a while to fully learn the 3-4 defense but i think our fundamentals will be much improved. Plus, there is no doubt that CTG will bring the fire back to the D. Special teams should be tremendous. Drew Butler is the best punter we’ve ever had.
All in all, it’s gonna be great to be a Georgia Bulldawg this fall.

How to win big is with big men

April 18th, 2010
1:00 pm

Alabama has Julio Jones and many stated that he was possibly the # 1 player in the USA from high school days. He is amazing and great. As a UGA man, he is about as good as our man AJ Green and he might be a little beefier too. Both will be NFL # 1 picks this time next year, barring major injuries.

My point is that so far, Julio with ssome injuries in his second year like AJ, did not single handily win the NC for Bama. He was part of but not THE REASON. Bame won the NC ( congrats ) with big, beefy d linemen and line backers that are huge and that can RUN. Same with their O line.

UGA needs to land some huge D linemen and O linemen, as these men CAN win a SEC title and possible NC. This is the hallmark of Sabin’s history …………….LSU and now Bama with HUGE,beefy linemen and more huge, beefy linemen and line backers. His Qbs and his backs ( yes, Bama had a Heisman winner back and congrats) are usually good too. he knows that it all starts with SUPERIOR line play.

Let starts seeing UGA land HUGE, bulky, beefy linemen that are whales and with our QBs and skill guys and new coaching staff ………..we could make a run in 2011 or 2012.

Go Dogs.

As a Tech guy, I have to acknowledge another good commitment for UGa, and a pretty good looking class. Unfortunately, the “Yawl suk/O yeah, well, yawl really suk” morons keep coming to these sites. GT and UGa both have good programs; no amound of “Yawl suk” is gonna change that…..thank goodness!

Go Jackets, thanks for the classy post. I am proud of Scott because he is a local boy but I have no idea how good a WR Scott will be at the next level. Sometimes a track guy’s love of football lasts untill the first time he catches one over the middle and says hello to a SEC LB or safety. Is it just me or does this crop of recievers in Ga seem smarter than usual?

if you arent a Georgia fan…why do you get on this post? Does your life really suck that bad that you have to get on a rival teams page and tell them how much you hate them? Go to your own teams message boards and write on there. If you think UGA sucks so much why do you spend so much time worrying about what’s going on there?

Congrats on another 3 star, he wants to be a Dawg so that is good enough. Those darn Gators recently landed a big time defensive end that had offers from everybody……UGA, Alabama, U of Southern California, Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU, Georgia Tech, FSU, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina, etc. etc. etc……

Chip, hope you get better soon.

From the other AJC article on Bowman, he sounds like a good kid. Congrats to UGA.

Alabama picked up a couple of big commitments yesterday. 6′7″ 280 lb defensive end LaMichael Fanning looks like a prototype 3-4 DE. He is from Auburn High School but had lived in Georgia up until last year. I think Georgia and pretty much everybody else was after him. He figures to end up either 4 or 5 stars. Alabama also got a commitment from DB Hasean Clinton-Dix of Orlando, who picked the Tide over FSU, LSU, Florida, Miami and others.

Well, I suppose UGA has another scholarship available now that…

METTENBERGER IS GONE FOR GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

How in the hell can UGA even field a team with so many drunks, thugs, felons, goons, and unprincipled illiterates??? Good grief, they have to hire an extra bus just to take all the parole officers to away games.

And you Dawg fans really think the scores against Tech matter? Play by the same rules, and you’d get your a**es kicked every time in every sport.

i like how the ugagers do this

7:12 pm

mark richt recruits some young men of questionable character and then when they inevitable get into trouble he can….

1. decide to give the young man another chance(only if he looks like he will be pushing for playing time) or

2. he can arbitrarily set the rules so high that the bulldogs are ‘forced’ to let this young man go leaving room to sign a more heralded recruit in the current recruiting class.

can you say that saint richt has ‘running off players’ down to a science at ugag! would that be christian science at work????

Roll Tide

April 18th, 2010
8:23 pm

Bama had 91,320 fans @ A-Day which also included a bevy of studs from all over the southeast. 3 more standouts committed to the Tide this weekend. Nick Saban continues to cherry pick the best in Georgia and other SEC states. After watching several scrimmages many say this team will be more talented than the National Championship team.

The 6′7″ 280 lb DL from Auburn was a lifelong UGA fan. It came down to the Dawgs & Tide but he committed to the Tide in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

Insiders think Saban’s 2011 class will his best. The gap between UGA and Florida/Bama continues to widen. The heat will be on Richt to produce with his NFL & Saban trained DC. If Richt continues to stumble 2011 will be his last in Athens.

Are you referring to the 50th or 58th ranked WR by scout that are committed to ALA or maybe the not ranked TE. Alabama championship had all to do with SABAN the mercenery of coaches. WOW 92,000 fans its amazing how they jump on the bandwaggon after a title.

None have robbed at gun point (TENN) or had a DUI (FL). Watch out GT as GA State will soon be second best in the state. GT on the schedule = win for UGA. Just get use to it.
