Carver-Columbus RB Isaiah Crowell bails on Georgia’s Junior Day

Isaiah Crowell is not going to make it to Athens after all.

The Carver-Columbus running back, the No. 1 prospect in the AJC’s “Tentative Top 10,” abruptly canceled his plans to join three teammates at Georgia’s Junior Day on Saturday. Carver coach Dell McGee confirmed the news via text message Friday evening.

“Something came up,” McGee said. “But Gabe Wright, Quincy McKinney and Deion Bonner will be there.”

Asked if anything could read into Crowell’s cancellation, McGee replied, “No, sir, not at all. Something with a family member.”

Georgia’s status with Crowell seems to have changed dramatically over the last few weeks. Early in the year he indicated the Bulldogs were his favorite and said he would be comparing everybody else to them. But ever since visiting Alabama and getting an official offer from coach Nick Saban he has said the Crimson Tide is the team to beat. He reaffirmed them as leader to a national recruiting analyst on Friday.

“I like Alabama because I’m real comfortable with the coaches there and like the players too,” he said told Allen Wallace of Scout.com. “I’ve got a good relationship with them. I love how they run the ball. They really showcase the back. I also like coach Nick Saban and his whole staff.”

Wallace said Crowell favors Alabama slightly over Florida State, Georgia and Clemson. He and Wright took a day trip over to Auburn on Friday.

Crowell has not returned messages from the AJC this week.

CHIP, that answers my question on your other blog. Keep up the good work. I would love to have Crowell but I think I could ’settle’ for Brown, Sims, Bellamy, or Green.

CHIP, any chance Crowell might have given Bama a silent commit? Saban has been known to frown on commits to ‘check out’ other schools. (Not as bad as CPJ tho).

Now this prima donna crap has started with high school players who are only juniors? Please. I will be willing to bet he will not end up being the best back from the state of Georgia when its all said and done.Mark Ingram the heisman trophy winner was only a 3 star recruit. This hype of high school kids by these recruiting services is getting out of hand. What next? Will scout and rivals be ranking the top middle schoolers in the country? Really. I wouldn’t be shocked if it came to that.

Hey layinlow- now Crowell is a prima donna– you are the typical uga joke. Your program is average at best in the SEC and CMR can’t keep the top talent from leaving the state. This kid is the best RB in the state and uga has no chance in getting him. Enjoy 3rd place in the SEC East next year

Wow, I really wish UGA “fans” would quit bashing these kids the minute a rumor starts about them showing more interest in a rival school. They are high school kids making one of the most important decisions they will ever make. They should go where they feel comfortable and where they feel they will best succeed. I would love for Isaiah Crowell to play for UGA. I want all of the best players to come to UGA, but only if they want to be there. If I were a recruit and read some of these blogs I would think twice about coming to UGA, and that is a damn shame. I expect bloggers from other schools to come on UGA blogs and say ignorant and hurtful things about recruits because they are not Bulldawgs, however, I expect more from Bulldawg Nation. UGA will get our fair share of great players. I want a championship as much as anyone. These negative comments only hurt recruiting efforts. You’re foolish if you think some of the recruits do not read these posts.

As a die hard Alabama fan I also think that Georgia is a great school too. Georgia is my second favorite SEC school. Georgia has never had problems with the NCAA and runs a clean program. Mark Richt is a class act as a Coach and man. I would love to see Georgia win the SEC East and play Bama in the SECCG. Dawgs have some of the best fans too. Roll Tide and Go Dawgs! Bitter fighting over a junior in highschool is silly and classless. Let the kid go where he wants to go and if it is Georgia or Bama then wish him well.

Let him go for crying out loud. If he wants to go to Alabama then I say buy him a bus ticket and send him on his merry way. A running back is only as good as his o-line anyway. If a kid doesn’t want to come to Georgia or Georgia Tech for that fact, then I say forget them. There are to many kids that would be proud to take that scolarship. This kid is obviously on a ego trip and needs to be the center of attention. Please forget about him, do not feed his ego anymore. If he ever wanted to be a dawg or jacket then he wouldn’t try and make you jump through hoops. Look coach Ricth this kid never intented to sigh with Georgia, he just want’s to see how far you will go to please him. Don’t fall for it because I have a feeling that Saban has already offered him more than you can or will ever be willing to offer him. Coach forget him. Too many good kids dying to get into Georgia. If he truely wants to come to Georgia then he will, if not then he want. Just stop coddling these brat,s, not just Crowell but every damn one of them.

Funny thing but when Notre Dame and USC were looking for a new head coach you never heard Saban’s name mentioned. Did you happen to notice that and wonder why you dork? Because he is not a freaking candidate. And as for the pro ranks. The man took a pay cut to go from a great franchise like the dolphins back down to college. Funny though that folks like you been saying that idiotic stuff for 3 going on 4 years now. Keep hoping buddy if hoping Saban leaves is all you can hang onto.

But the real advantage Alabama players have is Nick Saban, their coach who has extensive experience in pro football as well as the college game.

“He gets them not just ready from a standpoint of understanding offense and defense, but mentally, he makes them tough, he makes them competitive, he makes them strong,” the San Francisco 49ers’ general manager said.

Mike Singletary, the 49ers’ head coach, also raved about the quality of players Saban is producing.

“Nick’s done a great job of getting good, solid football players there,” Singletary said. “Very disciplined, smart, physical. All of the things you want on a winning football team.”

The pro-style offense gives Alabama players familiarity with NFL systems, Singletary said. “There is a difference when you’re running the spread vs. the pro-set,” he said. “There’s a difference when you get in the NFL, a comfort zone.”

Alabama’s April 17 A-Day spring football game will again be televised nationally by ESPN, according to an announcement today by the university. The game will start at 2 p.m.

ESPN televised last year’s A-Day Game, which did not deter a crowd of 84,050 from showing up at Bryant-Denny Stadium. At least 84,000 fans have been announced at each of Nick Saban’s first three spring football games at Alabama.

Rose’s pedigree suggests the 6-foot-1 cornerback will one day play for Auburn. He is the son of former Tigers defensive back Charles Rose.

But that didn’t stop Alabama from being the first school to offer a scholarship last Wednesday. He’s expected to be one of the state’s top prospects in the Class of 2011.
Rose said he has already spent “40 minutes” in Alabama coach Nick Saban’s office. Saban made “a big impression,” Rose said.

“I really liked how Coach Saban talked about Alabama’s strengths,” Rose said. “He didn’t make it an Alabama vs. Auburn thing at all. He didn’t even mention Auburn. I thought that showed class.”

I feel Georgia has slid in their recruiting efforts the last few years. The top prospects seem to want to go to FLA/ALA/TENN/AUB/LSU … what’s going on. On the outside it looks as if Georgia’s not putting forth the effort with instate prospects. Other teams pull the trigger early and Georgia just seems to hand around thinking everyone’s dying to come to Georgia. I truly believe we need new life and new effort in our recruiting. Georgia’s program still seems dead and lifeless even with the changes. I think CMR is going to have to take a strong increase in his personal participation in recruiting as per Miles/Saban/Meyer. Does anyone else feel Georgia’s recruiting is in a decline?

How can anyone pass judgement on this kid due to a change of plans during his Junior year? It’s one thing to criticize a guy who bails out on his committment on National Signing Day, but Crowell is nearly a year away from having to make a decision about his college future. At a time when most high school Juniors’ are having a tough time figuring which shirt to wear to class or which party to go to on Saturday night, people are trashing a kid because his plans for this weekend changed. He has plenty of time to visit UGA and make a decision. For now, let’s just let him be a kid.

Until Bobo and Richt come clean and admit they intentionally jerked the qb at Carver of Columbus around rather than continue to lie and say it was an “oversight” or “mistake”, we’re going to continue to have problems there. Coach McGhee would not have banned them from the school if he felt it was an honest mistake. Richt and Bobo messed with the kid and they know it, they’re just not man enough to own up to it.

you leghumpers crack me up. a top RB has a strong interest in UA than UGA….and it’s because UA is cheating? has nothing to do with:

1. UA is defending NATIONAL CHAMPS
2. UA had 2 RBs that were stars this year on the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP team
3. UA runs the ball more than most
4. A current UA RB who will head to the NFL the year before Crowell would enroll just won the HEISMAN TROPHY

INDIANAPOLIS — For years, Gil Brandt was a respected executive with the Dallas Cowboys. Now he’s a draft analyst for NFL.com, and he’s marveling this week about the quality and quantity of Alabama players who are participating in the NFL Scouting Combine.

“There’s a lot of good character players there,” he said.

What does he mean by “character”?

“They’re good people,” Brandt said.

“Nobody has less off-the-field problems than Alabama does.

“No. 1, if I remember correctly, Coach (Nick) Saban doesn’t offer a scholarship to anybody he hasn’t seen personally. That means he’s been in the house and he knows what he’s getting. They have enough clout that they can get just about anybody they can get.
