Markeith Ambles tweets his commitment to ‘Trogans’

Markeith Ambles: Not a 'Trogan.' (Jason Getz / AJC)

Now that he’s a Southern Cal Trojan, Markeith Ambles may want to learn how to spell it.

SI.com recruiting reporter (and former AJC intern) Andy Staples was first to note Ambles’ problems with spelling “Trojans” when he saw Ambles’ tweet:  “@mARKEITHAMBLES: who will i be tomorrow a vol, trogan, or tar heel!!!!!!”

Staples blew it off as a typo until he saw the Henry County wide receiver’s update on Twitter after committing to USC Wednesday morning. At 12:19 p.m. he tweeted: “Go Trogans!!!!!!”

USC’s Lane Kiffin apparently coached him up at that point.  At 12:24 p.m., Ambles tweeted simply, “Trojans”

Here are a couple quotes about this Lonnie Outlaw kid that we just got:

Quote in an article from a coach who had coached against Fred Gibson:

“Lonnie Outlaw makes Fred Gibson look like a little girl. We triple covered him and he still caught everything”.

Quote from the N/S All Star Game…

Lonnie Outlaw- A 6′6″ WR from Wilcox Co is a beast from WR position. I have not seen anybody that can cover him one on one yet. Today he gave the North CB’s problems with his size and speed.

This kid might be a huge sleeper!

Rarely say anything negative about a kid, but. . .

He is one of the more selfish high school athletes I’ve seen in the past few years. I don’t think he’ll have what it takes to make it at USC. A kid that waves off or ignores his coaches. . . well, enough said.

And, can’t call this one sour grapes since UGA was never in the running.

Tech fan but I agree with Really? on Lonnie Outlaw. Seen him play and you may call him sleeper but he will turn out to be the offensive star of this class.

Same with Tony Zenon at Tech, he will be the offensive star of that class.

The only caveat is, can they both stay healthy?

I swear I doubt some of these guys could say their ABC’s. I’m dead serious. A person would have to be brain dead to believe that some of these kids could score high enough on a SAT or ACT to get into college. There is a lot of dirty business going on in college athletics.

Ambles and Kiffin deserve each other. How they are gonna fit those two heads on the same field is hard to say. UT so much better off w/o him. Even Da’Rick knew Kiffin was a clown.

Money making sport (billions) for every University. They will take the money without reservation knowing that these kids are not capable of completing college courses.

You’re an idiot. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/national-universities-rankings/ SC #26, Georgia #58, UT #106 Do you really need someone to explain to you that not having a minimum GPA/SAT score for prospective students doesn’t mean there are no standards?

Ryan

What I am noting is that because USC has no mandatory admission standards, USC has the ability to admit any student-athlete who wouldn’t qualify academically at a school with mandatory academic standards (provided he meets NCAA minimum standards, of course). The fact that there is no minimum standard does not preclude the fact that USC has a de facto set of GPA/SAT requirements when evaluating applicants (which it obviously does). Also, citing rankings is simply irrelevant to my point and is indicative of your massive inferiority complex. Go Trogans!

[...] • Attritioooooon … attrition! Deep breath: Je’Ron Stokes is gone from Michigan; Lache Seastrunk is all but in the fold at Baylor (whatever will that do to the state financials, armchair economists?), and Markeith Ambles is out at USC thanks to academic lassitude, bringing to an end an 18-month long odyssey of “Trogan” jokes.
