It’s official: Da’Rick Rogers is a Tennessee Vol

It’s official: Da’Rick Rogers has signed with Tennessee.

I asked correspondent Bill Sanders to find out when was the last time Georgia was jilted by a 5-star recruit on the eve of national signing day.

Never, he was told.

“As long as they’ve been rating players with stars, I cannot remember losing one like that,” said Georgia sports communications director Claude Felton. “John Johnson was the biggest one I remember, and he went to Clemson at the last minute.”

Johnson, a linebacker from LaGrange, signed with Clemson in 1987 and went on to play five years in the NFL.

Of course, Georgia did have one that went its way. In 1996, Marcus Stroud chose Georgia at the last minute after being a Florida Gator commitment.

There seems to be something behind this…the kid skipping school, not talking with his coach how was his mentor, not responding to calls…Remembering back when I was his age when I acted like that I did something wrong, or had a bad consconcious. Amazing to believe that the mind can change that easily in a few days.

I hope Da’rick plays his freshman year so “The Hitman” can lay this lil move on him…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WJe86_y2Ps

I hate to say anything bad about a kid, but this is going to end up being a big mistake for Da’Rick. Signing with a school just to follow your buddy isn’t a smart decision. Tennessee isn’t going anywhere for a while so he should have known better.

Congrats to the VOLS. Great pick up.
He should do very well in Knoxville. And I think Nance will be a major surprise on the field.
His stock was rising quickly – and Georgia should have nabbed him.

We are fine at this position. We will just laugh and cheer when Rambo lights him up next year.

It is sad really

I wish he would have kept his commitment to Georgia, but we are going to have a great class with or without him. It will be interesting to see what/if any his impact will be at UT and of course how we impact his play when he get between the hedges.

I’m not a Dawg fan, but UGA should be better off without this arrogant jerk. Anyone that does not stand by thier word or commitment (which football is supposed to teach) is not worthy to put on that jersey. This was the last overpraised kid that thinks he is entitled to everything…except an education, which im sure he won’t get, not like he ever intended on getting one anyways.

Luckily UGA is deep at WR, so that softens the blow a little. Getting Mike Thornton helps the class on defense.

Still it hurts to lose Da’Rick, but it is totally understandable. Family won out, pure and simple. Can’t fault the kid for wanting to play with his best friend and de facto brother. I hope Da’Rick has a great career, except when he plays UGA, and that he goes on to the NFL.

Some other good news though, Telvin Smith has beacked off his commitment to FSU and said this morning that UGA is his choice “at the moment” — So, he is back to being a possible signee.

He seems to have ALOT of T.O. or Chad Ochocinco in him. I don’t want that on the team. everything that I have seen says that on his facebook he refers to himself as “prettyboy.” are you kidding me?

Hope he has a great carreer in Knoxville, except at least 1 game a year. UGA will get another great WR if not this year, next. They needed to firm up the “D” as much as possible. Keep the focus on what matters.

Been watching the developments of the Da’Rick situation off/on. Looks like his buddy Nance was used as bait. Correct me here if I’m wrong, but Nance is a 4.0 student who had an offer from Vanderbilt. Seems to me that would have been a perfect fit for the kid, good education and playing time. Wow, way to throw away your future in one fell swoop. We’ll surely hear about Da’Rick but no so much about Nance.

UGA has some great talent at WR already so losing him will not be a big deal, we need team players here at UGA not people who only care for themselves, I wish him the best of luck…..

Who wouldn’t want to play for a first year coach who was 4-8 last year at a WAC school in beautiful Knoxville at a respected institution of higher learning like the University of Tennessee? We’ll be fine: AJ for one more year, Orson for at least two more, Tavarres, Marlon, Rantavious…it’s disappointing but it could be a lot worse.

I would much rather build from the dl and ol out..I think we’ve done a good job of that…How many of these highly rated receivers from smaller schools flop when they have to face real coverage and real hitters…Wish him luck and hope we kick his tail the next 4 years…

Woooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!! How ‘Bout them Vols! Seriously, how does Richt lose a guy like this to a UT coach that has only been on the job for 3 or 4 weeks?? I know Nance may have been key, but Richt really messed up here. What’s going on in Athens??

So the kid went to another school. He should go where he wants. Besides, if he is the kind of young man to say one thing and do another, then maybe that isn’t the kind of character we want on our program. I would rather him sign with TN than be in the AJC for getting in trouble next year. Best of luck to the kid. If he does have character issues, hopefully Dooley can straighten him out so he can have a good career.

UGA will be better off without this guy. He seems to be full of himself (just read his description of himself on his facebook page) and easily persuaded by outside sources that could care less about him. And yes, I am a Tech fan…

Steve, the Carpet man pimped Da’Rick so his boy could get a scholly. Sad story, and I hope the kid will learn to be a man one day. Doubtful, but it could eventually happen.

Now little Derek is going to have Carpet man trying to get his untalented boy on the field. Did the same thing at Darlington. Did the same thing at Calhoun.

I feel bad for Coach Lamb, he got smoked by Buford in the state title game and now got played by the Nances. Ironic, I think, that Ufk who got used like a $2 hooker by Kiffin has now done the same thing with the Nance family.

Karma is a mofo.
