THE TEN AT 10:
1. They are expecting a massive turnout this evening at Silver Hill Memorial United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, S.C. No one is expected to preach but at least one group of people will have its prayers answered. Marcus Lattimore, the No. 1 tailback in America according to Rivals.com, is scheduled to make known at 6 p.m. his decision between South Carolina and Auburn at the open-to-the-public event. The church sent out warnings Monday to come early because it can hold only 600 people and it has far fewer parking places than that. Doors open at 3 p.m. It is said that all of South Carolina will be tuning in.
2. Sharrod Golightly, a defensive back from Decatur’s Southwest DeKalb High School, committed to South Carolina Monday night after backing out on a pledge toVanderbilt. Golightly had an official visit with the Gamecocks this past weekend and told PalmettoSports.com he’d made up his mind by the time he left Sunday night. “I’m excited about being a part of the Gamecocks,” Golightly told the website. “Columbia was the place I need to be. I felt that warm feeling like I was at home. You can’t go against your heart.” Golightly 113 tackles with two interceptions and three sacks for Buck Godfrey’s Panthers last season.
3. There is great recruiting drama unfolding outside our borders on national signing day. Lane Kiffin, the “Great Disruptor” when he was recruiting for Tennessee, is now going head-to-head with the Vols on a couple of recruits. Kiffin is reportedly trying to steal away junior college linebacker Glen Stanley, a recent UT commitment, and continues to try to convince Henry County wide receiver Markeith Ambles to follow him to USC, which he has done since the first day he took the job in early January. Ambles is now debating USC, UT and North Carolina.
4. Seantrel Henderson, generally considered the top prospect in all of America, is going to make his announcement on live television Wednesday from New York City where he’s doing the Tom Lemming Show on CBS. The 6-foot-8, 338-pound offensive lineman from St. Paul, Minn., is going to choose between Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida, Miami, Southern Cal and Oklahoma.
5. Jefferson County’s Barry “B.J.” Bostic, one of three Georgia Tech recruits to enroll early, was shocked when he first stepped on a scale on The Flats. It read “158 pounds.” The 5-foot-10 athlete was reported to weigh between 175-185 pounds during recruiting. “I thought I weighed more for sure,” Bostic told the AJC’s Michael Carvell. But Bostic is already putting on pounds, thanks to intense weight-room workouts and a new-found favorite in the Tech cafeteria. “Cheeseburgers,” he said with a laugh. “I love ‘em.”
6. Meanwhile, Bostic is still trying to settle on a position in college. He met with Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson last week to discuss it. “He said he had no idea where he wants to play me,” said Bostic, who played quarterback in high school. “It’s between defensive back, A-back and quarterback. I told him it doesn’t matter, I’m just trying to contribute to the team.” Bostic said coaches have told him to expect to move around a lot in the spring.”
7. Georgia still has a shot at wide receiver Kadron Boone, according to Scout.com’s Chad Simmons. The four-star recruit told Simmons he would have his mind made up by Tuesday morning between Texas Tech (where is remains a soft commitment), LSU, Georgia and Louisville. But the Under Armour All-American won’t let the world known until he is scheduled to announce at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
8. Nice piece on Stephenson’s Raymond Sanders by columnist Mark Story of the Lexington Herald-Leader. Story writes about how the diminutive tailback went from “Who?” to “Wow!” in the eyes of Kentucky fans after they got to see him in action in their nationally-televised ESPNU game against M.L. King last October. Sanders, who had 135 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns in that game, is one of three Jaguars slated to sign with UK on Wednesday. Four if defensive tackle Mike Thornton pulls a fast one and also decides to ink with the Wildcats.
9. Speaking of Stephenson, coach Ron Gartrell’s football program could have as many as 31 seniors sign college grants-in-aid at the DeKalb school’s signing day ceremony Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. Twenty-five have already settled on choices and six others — including Thornton — are listed as “TBD.” The Jaguars had 32 graduates in college football last season.
10. I see where cornerback Nickell Robey finally talked to somebody. The “soft” UGA commitment spoke to SCplaybook.com about his visit to Southern Cal last weekend. “It was nice to see what kind of school USC is,” Robey told the Scout site. “On a scale of one to 10, I would rate the visit a 10.” Robey praised Lane Kiffin and his staff and said he wouldn’t have a problem with the school’s distance from Frostproof, Fla. “No, not all. I’ve talked to my family about it and it’s okay with them,” he said. “I’m just going to the best place that fits me. If that means I have to travel, I‘ll do it.” Robey said he’ll announce his choice between USC, West Virginia, South Florida and Georgia at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

How would Thornton signing with Kentucky be “pulling a fast one”? He has four good friends signing there and he is not committed to anyone. Right? Any thoughts on who could surprise the Dawg nation by giving us a commit? Any word on Whitaker committing to Auburn?

I watched Lattimore in 2 games on ESPN this year and he appears to have unlimited potential if he can eliminate his fumbles; he lost 4 in the 2 games and appeared to sulk on the sidelines.

I agree, it is time for Kiffin to disappear from these pages. What amazes me is how these young kids can buy his line of BS. They should stop and take a look at his track record and see that he has no integrity. He only cares about himself. Anyway, as a college football fan I will be glad when this is all over. What a shame that it takes an announcement of where a kid is going to school to fill a church. These kids play this drama up to get as much time in the spotlight as they can. Why don’t they just sign the letter of intent at 8 AM and fax it in? Got to have press conferences, etc so everyone can see. Heck, the president of the US signs more important bills than these LOI everyday and we don’t see those. Good luck to all the kids that sign tomorrow but you better start working hard to get ready for the next level because it will be an adjustment.

Chip’s reference to Thornton “pulling a fast one” were he to choose Kentucky – despite the fact that four of his teammates are headed there – gives even more credence to the belief that he is indeed a SHILL for U(sic)GA, one of Thornton’s other possible destinations.

BigTimeTECHFan, When you look at “B.J.” Bostic, you might think of Dexter McCluster, from Ole Miss, and how they used him all over the field. As far as Michael Thornton is concerned, he’s a fine young man from a fantastic family. Whatever program he chooses will be the better for it. Here’s hoping it will be the Jackets. Whatever anyone else is telling you, we’re still in it; I think.

OK Chip, a lot better reporting for us Dawg fans, but today maybe should be a day of ” what’s going on in Athens?”. I think we’ll have a pretty good to good class, but we have lost a few the last few days. We might get a surprise or two on signing day. IMO, I think other schools are really using Georgia’s lack of a dominate team the last couple of years and wrapping in fears about Richt’s job security as a weapon against us. If Grantham can bring a new brand of Defense to Athens with some success, We will continue to load ‘em up.

toph, he’s from the same High School and played for John Brantley’s father. He was injured some but still had a very productive year. UF wanted him, then changed their mind and then tried some after the mess at Texas Tech with Mike Leach. Looks like from the UF site that UGA has a good chance at him. He has good size and speed.

This “10 at 10 idea was a great one, I’ve been checking it out every day. Kudos!
Thornton has taken three visits: Penn State, UGA and UK, which sounded more like a last minute decision to go on a ‘fun trip with friends”. He says he might sign with a school without seeing the campus, but why do that when any school would pay for an official visit?
I say it’s down to Penn State and UGA with Thornton.

In all the years I’ve watched college football and coaching changes one thing I’ve always noticed is that its always been standard protocol and an unwritten rule that when a coach changes jobs to another school they always tell the recruits at the old school to stick to their commitment. They tell em that their commitment is to the university and not the coach.
Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron started calling UT recruits the day they left for UT to switch to USC. This punk has definitely brought a new low in slimyness to college football. I know people are tired of hearing of the punk but I am kinda surprised that more isn’t written about this piece of trash and his gutter tactics. What a freaking slimeball.

Ga Gator, yea you gotta remember they are kids but the AD isn’t and he bought Kiffins BS. You would think the parents would want to enlighten these kids a little bit about Kiffen but I guess most back off and let the kid decide. Anyway, what I find most interesting about this whole recruiting process is how a committment means nothing to a kid anymore. In my day and still today if you don’t have your word then you have nothing. Yes, these kids have a right to change their minds but they should wait longer before committing to make absolutely sure they made the right choice. Perhaps if the NCAA came up with a form that a kid would have to sign when he committs that would stop them from backing out then these early committments probably wouldn’t happen. Not fair to the schools that get jilted in the end cause had they known enough in advance then perhaps they could have gone after another player they wanted but didn’t have a scholly for.
