Calhoun coach ‘totally unsure’ what Da’Rick Rogers will do

At one time, Hal Lamb was a trusted adviser and confidant for Nash Nance and Da’Rick Rogers. The two Calhoun High stars went to their coach about everything.

But not any more. Lamb is out of the loop now.

Lamb is the head football coach and athletic director at Calhoun High School and the architect of the pass-happy spread offense that has attracted players like Nance and Rogers to play for him. Nance passed for 3,018 yards and 29 touchdowns in that system this past season and Rogers established the state record with 1,641 yards receiving as the Yellow Jackets won 14 games before losing in the Class AA state championship.

It was at least partially on Lamb’s advice that Nance committed to Vanderbilt and Rogers to Georgia last June. But as we steam into national signing day tomorrow, it’s looking increasingly like neither of those commitments will be honored.

Nance is now firmly committed to Tennessee after accepting an 11th-hour offer last week and will sign with the Vols on Wednesday.  Rogers, a five-star recruit, followed his best friend Nance up to Knoxville the past two weekends and may well follow him up there for good. And though he has never decommitted to UGA, it appears increasingly likely Rogers could also sign with UT.

Rogers isn’t saying. He hasn’t answered texts, phone calls or emails for days.

But don’t bother asking Lamb what his star receiver is going to do. He’s as in the dark as anybody.

“I am totally unsure right now what he’s going to do,” Lamb said Monday afternoon. “He hasn’t communicated it to me.”

It’s not from a lack of trying. Lamb met with Rogers for 45 minutes this past Friday.

“I sat down with him and tried to help him,” Lamb said. “We went over the pros and cons of both schools. But he never let on as to what he was thinking.”

Rogers also failed to mention he planned to go back up to Knoxville this weekend.

“That’s what I heard,” Lamb said of that trip.

Asked if Rogers had some kind of falling out with Georgia, Lamb said he didn’t think so.

“I don’t know,” he said. “It’s just hard to figure.”

The only thing Lamb could say for sure is the two players are going to ink their letters-of-intent on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. in the media center at Calhoun High School (along with teammates Kedron Aker, a safety headed to UAB, and Cody Ralson, a linebacker bound for UCF).

The last time Calhoun had such a gathering at the school was nearly eight months ago on June 9. It was the day Nance and Rogers committed to Vandy and Georgia.

UGA people need not worry about Rogers or the Vols they need to worry about their own house. Richt will be gone in two years and they better hope Mac Brown over at Texas stays healthy enough to expect to be coaching in the next 6 or 7 years so Muschamp comes over and saves your sorry butts. I mean you guys flat out suck with all the talent that is in that state and two years ago you had everything a team could dream of and you blew it then. We have so many problems its hard to even count and we are still going toe to toe with UGA for talent in your state. You Dawgs are looking more like kittens everday.

gen neyland, you are just plain dumb.

Rogers choosing TN at the last minute is like ordering steak, and as the waiter brings it to your table you tell him to throw it away because now you want chicken.

It’s like spending two hours at the Chevy dealership and all but inking the sales paper then telling the hardworking salesman to F-off cuz now I want a Ford.

It’s like asking a blond to marry you, then as she’s walking down the aisle towards you with her father, you scream, “NO!” and run out of the chapel and decide you’d rather screw a red head.

JUST PLAIN DUMB… you must have a bachellor’s of science in logic from UT

We already have plenty of receivers

Again, who cares? He wasn’t all that impressive in the Under Armous game and WE HAVE PLENTY OF DANGED RECEIVERS…we’ll lose him but pick up another 5 star receiver in his place. AA spread football is a world away from anything in the college levels.

Rogers want make or break UT, what we need is a top tier qb, not a 3 star reject from ga. Hopefully the kid from CA will live up to his billing, that way Rogers will have someone who can get him the ball.

the amount of hate you spew on this site is embarrassing. do you still live in a cave? I’m shocked that you can even use a computer with your knuckle-dragging, neanderthal views. challenging everyone to some type of playground fistfight just to prove what – that you are strong and the world should bow at your feet? attitudes like that will get you killed by those who carry weapons.

why not relax? enjoy the teenagers playing football, the camaraderie of tailgating with some buddies, ribbing (i.e. joking, teasing, poking fun) at the opposing teams without some type of wacked out threats?

I recognize guys like you – you ruin it for families at the games with your foul mouth, drunkeness, and boorish behavior. Do us a favor and stick with WWE

And the slide continues……….

Da’Rick is all Vol!!!!
UGA is losing “committed” recruits left and right (Da’Rick and Robey make 4) – and their key remaing targets are going elsewhere.

WHY?

UGA is down cycling – and recruits feel it – sense it.
Schools on the rise? Auburn and Tennessee
Schools at the Top – Alabama and Florida
Schools trying to maintain – LSU
SChools sucking eggs – UGA – Sliding back!

Richt had it going up to 2005:
Florida – 2 NT leaped frog over
Alabam – 1 NT on top of the football worls
LSU – 2 NT and is a better program
Tennessee – won 3 of last 4 – by BLOW OUT.
Kentucky and Georgia Tech have recent victories.
Auburn – new staff – recruiting well – will pass UGA this year – and go on a several years win streak – just as UGA was about to tie the overall series.

Look for UGA to battle Sout Carolina and Kentucky for 3/4/5 slots in the SEC EAST – and Richt is GONE in 3 years or sooner. Count on it!

Let the kid make whatever decision he wants to make when he chooses to. I’m glad to see that this group of bloggers have never changed their minds in their lives. I bet half of you wished you’d never made that ‘commitment’ to get married when you did but hopefully you learned from it. I’m sure there were one or two people who said ‘Don’t do it’ but you wouldn’t listen. You had to learn for yourself.

Leave this kid alone and let him start making his own decisions and learning to live with the results, be they positive or negative.

One more thing, Drunkyard Dawg… what a truly classless and stupid posting. To wish physical ill-will on an 18 year old kid who might hurt your feelings because he chooses another school than the one YOU want him to go to is the lowest. I believe most everybody should be able to express their opinions but folks like you just need to keep it to themselves.

Good luck Da’Rick in whatever decision you make and GO DAWGS!

This is NOT a remake of “The Blind Side” movie. I’ve known Mike Nance a long time and this is not about Nash or Da’Rick, it is all about Mike who was a decent athelete but never wanted to compete at a level he knew he couldn’t be sure he would win. Da’Rick is following the $$$$. Da’Ricks Mom wants him to go to UGA but Mike and the $$$$ want him to go to UT and not just for Nash’s sake but more for Mike’s. Mike will make Craig James look like a perfect “football dad”. Vandy doesn’t know who lucky they are by not signing Nash.
Da’Rick – If for some reason you couldn’t continue your football career, Mike and the $$$$ and gifts will be gone but you know your Mother will still be there… you better think about that. You remember what happened to some of your Darlington teammates when Nash transfered????

So much excitement over nothing! First, Both kids came to Calhoun along with the new stadium upgrade. The school got a good deam, a state runner up, a receiving state record, and some looks form major colleges. Plan A was a success

Plan B:
A little tougher. Get Nash to major college and manipulate to make him look good. Huum, he will need a receiver to get a headstart. Ok, done. It might cost some room and board, throw in a new car, and plan B just might work.

Good question: does Da Rick have parents, do they have a new car (yet), and it is hard to believe they are not at his side but maybe their seats were purchased on Ebay to the highest bidder.

It just makes sense that if you buddy goes to Tenn and furnishes cash for cars, movies, food, etc. then what teen ager would not go along for the fringe benefits? Most likely, he would lose all the “extras” if he goes to Athens. To any average teen ager, this is a slam dunk! Can you sing “Rocky Top?”

I LOVE it how the dog fans trash a kid and call him a “cancer” because he is THINKING of going to Tennessee. Won’t you feel like an even bigger idiot, than you already are, if he signs with UGA?

I also love it that when a kid spurns UGA for Tennessee, it means he is trash and being paid, but when Tennessee kids like Marlon Brown decide not to come to UT, and go to UGA, it is because Richt is such a great guy.

Kinda comical.

Not everyone in Calhoun feels the best quarterback started for the team this year. Don’t forget our junior quarterback in 2008 got the same results in the playoffs (loss to Buford in finals). Johnson came back and was told to make room for Nance. I for one, would’ve liked to see more of Landon Curtis. Guess we will know next year. Easy to be bleacher coach though.

DawgnDC – Jesus would have been 4-8 at La Tech!!! the program down there is in much better shape support wise – facility wise – and recruit wise as Dooley did a good job – playing a harder schedule that LA Teck used to play. He also took La Tech to a bowl the year before – and gained huge experience as AD and HC.

What was Richts HC record before going to UGA? I forgot – he had no HC experience!!!!

also – Dooely was Sabans right hand man at LSU – won a NT – was recruiting coordinator – and followed him to Miami

LaTech = paying dues to get a prime HC position!
