Ten at 10: Georgia State nabs one of its best recruits

THE TEN AT 10:

1. Georgia State got probably its most significant commitment since quarterback Drew Little agreed to sign on when Cole Moon pledged Sunday night to sign with the Panthers. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound fullback from St. Pius is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com.  In the end it came down to State and Georgia Southern for Moon, who wanted to play close to home. “I’m really excited about playing there,” Moon said Monday afternoon. “They have a great coaching staff and I know a lot of kids on the team. I had a couple of other offers but this is just a great situation.” Moon garnered recruiting interest from Purdue, Western Kentucky and Southern Miss and had offers from the service academies and Georgia Southern.

2. Four-star defensive end Kareem Martin of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., a longtime main target for Georgia Tech, committed to North Carolina on Monday. In the end, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound athletes chose the Tar Heels over Virginia Tech and Duke in “a real close decision.”

3. In South Carolina they’re calling it one of the most important visits of Steve Spurrier’s tenure. The Gamecocks’ veteran coach has the last in-home visit scheduled this week with Rivals.com’s No. 1-ranked running back Marcus Lattimore. The Duncan, S.C., prep star has narrowed his choices to Auburn and South Carolina and will make his announcement on Tuesday at his church.

4. Georgia commitment Nickell Robey is contradicting the assertions of Frostproof’s athletics director that he won’t end up signing with the Bulldogs. The diminutive cornerbacker told UGAsports.com “that’s not true” when informed what Charles Loveless told the AJC. Robey visited West Virginia last weekend, will visit Southern Cal this weekend and has an in-home visit scheduled with USF’s Skip Holtz. Robey still has not returned messages from the AJC.

5. It’s still a long way off but Georgia was among the top 10 finalists for 2011 quarterback Christian LeMay, according to Scout.com. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete is expected to be one of the top prospects in the nation next year. He says he is also considering Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, Miami, Mississippi State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

6. Mike Nance, the father of Calhoun quarterback and Vanderbilt commitment Nash Nance, said his son has not yet decided whether or not to accept the scholarship offer extended last week by Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound quarterback visited the Vols along with five-star wide receiver teammate Da’Rick Rogers this weekend. Neither is likely to make an announcement before national signing day, Mike Nance said.

7. A scheduled in-home visit with Georgia Tech coaches was canceled by Beaufort, S.C. linebacker Justin Parker, according to JacketsOnline.com publisher Kelly Quinlan. Quinlan reported that was a bad sign for the Yellow Jackets, who are trying to beat out Clemson, LSU and South Carolina for the 6-foot-3, 230-pound bruiser.

8. One-time Tennessee commitment J.C. Copeland will make his final official visit this weekend to South Carolina. The 6-foot, 273-pound defensive lineman told PalmettoSports.com he was still committed to the Vols but was going into the visit “with an open mind.”

9. Also going to South Carolina this weekend are Southwest DeKalb defensive backs Sharrod Golightly and Jonathan Mincy. Mincy is a longtime Auburn commitment.

10. Rashad Williams, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker/defensive end from Dunwoody High, committed to Georgia Southern over the weekend.

layinlow: Of course, Nance’s scholarship offer from Tennessee is not contingent on Rogers (last name spelled without a d). Here is THE ORIGINAL STORY on Nance receiving a UT offer.

Mark Richt himself needs to make a trip to Calhoun and lock down Da’Rick Rogers. If we let this kid get away to UT, it will be an embarrassment.

Hey Chip, Nance’s offer may not be contingent on Rogers, but I bet they truly offered him in hopes of getting Rogers.

bdbulldog: what do you know? you have added nothing to any CHAT on this blog. STFU and how is this a UGA BLOG? It is a recruting blog. Wait I get it! it is a UGA blog because your best line is WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR and we get more 4-5 stars and we will win the SEC. HAHAHHA. You can’t even spell DAWG like a real bulldog fan.

Why is it that ignorant fans from any school get on these blogs and make complete fools of themselves? I am a big UGA fan and I honestly hope Tech loses every game, but I would never get on here and spew off at the mouth about anothe program or any of its fans. When someone does that, all it does it make themselves look like a complete idiot.

Hey Chip, give me what you think the advantages of Da’Rick signing with UGA over UT, and vice versa please.

Ga Tech Insider:

You’re the one claiming to be a Ga Tech Insider.

For the 4th time, can you name the locations of where 5 Ga Tech recruits are right now?

Shouldn’t be a big deal for someone with Ga Tech Inside connections.

Why do you keep avoiding that?

Oh I want the QB from Ohio to come to Tech, chances are low but he we could get him he would be a good replacement for Josh Nesbitt.

Insider: what the QB depth chart look like next year is Shaw still 2nd, or do you think Luallen (sp?) will move up the charts.

78 Dawg.. One national title in 40 years? Great! Then let’s discuss BYU football. They’ve won a NC more recently than you guys.

Oh, I get it. You must not been able to read the title of this blog. Which is headlined by Georgia State. Or is it that not even the AJC respects what you guys have done. If football NC’s were awarded in February, then you guys would have more all time titles than Bama, USC and ND combined.

Tech has won more NC’s than you guys. So has Army. And about 4 teams in the SEC.

Even Tennessee has won more recently than you guys. (And kicked your tail last year)

PLEASE…. Let’s take 78leghumpers advice and discuss teams that are relevant according to his specifications!

What makes so many folks think that Murray is a lock at QB at UGA? I’m hearing he’s going to be in a dogfight with the Mettenberger kid. I’m being told that Mettenberger has made substantial strides as a QB and may have pulled a little ahead of Murray while Murray was limited. Supposedly the kid has developed some touch to go with that big arm.
