The soap opera that is Matt Elam’s recruitment continues.
Elam, who is considered the top prospect from the state of Florida and the No. 1 safety in America by Scout.com, garnered national headlines last week when he switched his commitment from the Gators to Florida State. Well, now Elam is telling reporters covering the U.S. Army All-America Bowl in San Antonio this week that he may switch back to Florida after having a long telephone conversation with Urban Meyer this week.
“I talked to Urban last night,” Elam told Rivals.com. “We were talking about our relationship basically and he told me to have trust, to have trust in him and he asked me a word that really touched me. He said, ‘Do you know what faith means?’ and he told me the definition. It really touched me a lot. It really touched me so my decision might change.”
Also on Wednesday he told a reporter from the Scout site FightingGators.com in a text message that he is going to make his final decision on the air during Saturday’s broadcast of the U. S. Army Game (NBC, noon) and that it will be between Florida, Florida State and Georgia.
Elam actually took an official visit to Georgia on Nov. 14 and has been in touch with the Bulldogs’ coaches.
So who knows what’s going to happen with this elite prospect from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.? But it sounds like it will be worth tuning in Saturday to find out.
