FSU commit Matt Elam may flip back to Gators, still talking UGA

The soap opera that is Matt Elam’s recruitment continues.

Elam, who is considered the top prospect from the state of Florida and the No. 1 safety in America by Scout.com, garnered national headlines last week when he switched his commitment from the Gators to Florida State. Well, now Elam is telling reporters covering the U.S. Army All-America Bowl in San Antonio this week that he may switch back to Florida after having a long telephone conversation with Urban Meyer this week.

“I talked to Urban last night,” Elam told Rivals.com. “We were talking about our relationship basically and he told me to have trust, to have trust in him and he asked me a word that really touched me. He said, ‘Do you know what faith means?’ and he told me the definition. It really touched me a lot. It really touched me so my decision might change.”

Also on Wednesday he told a reporter from the Scout site FightingGators.com in a text message that he is going to make his final decision on the air during Saturday’s broadcast of the U. S. Army Game (NBC, noon) and that it will be between Florida, Florida State and Georgia.

Elam actually took an official visit to Georgia on Nov. 14 and has been in touch with the Bulldogs’ coaches.

So who knows what’s going to happen with this elite prospect from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.? But it sounds like it will be worth tuning in Saturday to find out.

First we would love to see him in red & black.
2nd we would rather he stay at FSU.

We could definitely use him in Athens. With Jones moving to Sunday and both S positions open, he could compete for immediate PT

And third, we’d prefer him to switch to golf.

Don’t go to Florida, Meyer is a jerk, go to FSU and start as a true freshman.

Yep, if he doesn’t come to Athens, I would rather see him go to FSU where he can help give Tech a loss in the ACC.

Ageree with Frank. If not UGA, I hope he goes to my second favorite team: ABF

Just wondering (1) Did the Tech team give up on Coach Johnson towards the end of the season? (2) Why did both lines of scrimmage for the Jackets get so man-handled in the out-of-conference games? (3) Is the ACC really that soft?

He has faith in the wrong thing. He need to have faith in God, not Urban. Urban has always thought he was God Jr.

It’s nice to hear about the pledges and decommitments, but I feel that it really boils down to either having that recruit enrolling early and on campus (which is a definite lock). Also there had been many many strange events that occured on Natl Signing Day…so committed or not there is always room for last minute change of heart.
To be playing for a school for the next 4 yrs is a big decision to make.

What happened to kids that grow up with “their” team and would do anything to play for them. Where has that gone? I want kids that would do anything to play for UGA.

It seems like he only added a third school (UGA) onto his list of options so that the moment of his decision will be more unpredictable/dramatic. These kids all put a lot of energy into trying to make their commitment announcements memorable, but in 5 years people will only remember their successes or failures on the field and not their stupid hat-picking shenanigans.

SEC,
Herschel Walker was not a die-hard Georgia fan his whole life. He almost signed with Clemson. If there is another Herschel Walker out there today, I’d be happy to have him play for my team.

FAITH? Urban ” I;m resigning , taking a leave of abscense , no I’ve decided to stay” , then again, uummmm….. Urban’s a screwball. sounds like he and Tim T-Bone been spending too much time together in the missionary woods in the missionary position. I can read that and its nothing but a bunch of crap. Shame on urbie taking advantage of a talented kid like that. Wonder what old Foley would say about Urban saying to him ” Trust Me”? Will somebody please answer me?

With Reshad Jones declaring for the NFL, this would be an ideal time for Elam to get some playing time right away. Hiring the right DC in the next week or two could persuade him.

Dr. Dave…. there’s no DC in the Swamp. All it would take is a call from Richt who is an authority on Faith, Trust, sticking with his people ( Players and coaches ). If the boy wants to go to the NFL, then UGA’s the pick.

Jones is going pro. Look at the long line of Safeties in the pros from UGA. Florida is great but certainly unstable is a good word to describe them.

Come to UGA and be a great Dawg!

Urban is a scumbag, plain and simple. He is a “win at any cost” hypocrite that would lie, cheat and steal if it would mean a win. What an a$$hole. Any parent that would let their kid play for him has issues.

Sa,

Where you looking in the mirror? That is proably the dumbest appraisal of Meyer
that has ever been posted. Sounds more like sour grapes. You should be happy you beat him once in his first five years. Now that he has build his program at Florida,
it will be alot longer than 5 years before you beat him again.

Haha….fans of Mark Richt saying Urban Meyer is a *hole/scumbag/etc REALLY need to take an unbiased look at Mark Richt. Neither of them are saints, but saying Richt is somehow a better person than Meyer is asinine.

Elam’s better off having faith in Meyer. At least we have proof Meyer exists :)

Elam better off at FSU or FLORIDA than UGA.

Richt has downcycled at UGA – had his chance to stay on top:
– FLORIDA has passed by UGA (and all others except Bama)
– TENNESSEE has blown out UGA 3 of last 4 years and will be catching up to FLORIDA soon.
– FSU – will be excellent under JIMBO – has really picked up the recruiting – think ACC will turn into MIAMI vs FSU league dominance with a little VT thrown in – then comes Clemson and GT – in no order.

Yeah, don’t go to UGA, We don’t need another attitude like him. Calling his coach by his first name. We get enough “Super Atheletes”. We need some good smart players that are not individuals, You know “TEAM players” like we use to get at UGA back in the early 80’s. Coach RIcht – go get us some SMART players.

If he comes back to Florida fine, if not that cool too. The Gators class is absolutely loaded even with great defensive players that play his positions. The class is loaded and there is still a very good shot to get more great players including the #1 ranked player, big Seantral Henderson, a 6′7″ 310 LB offensive lineman. Ronald Powell #4 ranked player a DE is leaning Gator.
