Latest: UGA commit Stripling says he ‘may’ visit GT, UT

OK, I finally got T.J. Stripling cornered long enough to talk to him about all this chatter going on about him.

Southwest DeKalb's T.J. Stripling insists he's still very much committed to Georgia even though he may take some official visits.

Southwest DeKalb's T.J. Stripling insists he's still very much committed to Georgia even though he may take some official visits.

T.J.’s a busy man these days. I caught him toward the end of football practice Tuesday with other DeKalb County all-stars who will play in an all-star game Saturday at Hallford Stadium. He is also playing basketball for the Panthers and, as we can all surely attest this week, he is still actively being recruited by several schools.

Which brings us back to the point me needing to track down Stripling. Rumors have run rampant for weeks now that this longtime Georgia commitment has been considering a switch to Georgia Tech, which is the ultimate about-face in these parts. The latest rumor surfaced Monday in the form of a report on JacketsOnline.com saying that Stripling — and Stephenson defensive tackle Mike Thornton – were going to be on The Flats for an official visit this weekend.

Not true, Stripling told me. However, he did not rule out completely that he may visit Tech eventually.

“The problem is it keeps coming out over there that I’m coming to visit and I’m not,” he said.” It started about a month ago when they offered me late. They said two players were not going to play next year so they had a scholarship for me. From there people have just been saying all kinds of stuff like I’m a silent commitment and I’m definitely coming for a visit. I haven’t said nothing yet.”

Stripling admitted that he has talked to Tech coaches about possibly making a visit eventually.

“But it definitely won’t be this weekend,” he said, reiterating that he’s playing in an all-star game. “It’s a possibility but I can’t really say yes right now. I have to talk to my parents about it and find out how Georgia is with it.”

Same goes with Tennessee.

“I might go to Tennessee,” said Stripling, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound defensive end. “I don’t have a date but I might go there in January.”

Nevertheless, Stripling said he is still committed to Georgia and isn’t necessarily looking to change his mind.

“I’m with Georgia right now,” he said. “I like everything about Georgia. I’m just making sure that I’m making the right decision. This is a decision that will affect me the rest of my life.  It’s more like, ‘give me a reason not to go to Georgia because I like everything I’ve seen there.’”

Stripling said he has kept Rodney Garner, his recruiter at Georgia, in the loop about the possibility of taking official visits.

“He’s cool with it,” Stripling said. “I’m sure in the back of his mind it might concern him. But he doesn’t have anything to worry about. I’m still committed to Georgia.”

So there you go. Looks like there was a little truth to all of it. . . .

NOTE: Forgot to mention earlier that Lassiter quarterback Hutson Mason will announce his college decision on Monday at 7:30 p.m. He’s making his announcement at the Fox Sports Grille at Philips Arena.

Deadline for Juniors to declare for draft is also in January. Maybe he is waiting on a commitable scholarship…from UT or GT.

Who gives a crap about UGA’s recruiting ranking. CMR will coach them down to 2 stars and lose another 5 or 6 games next year. Face it, UGA is a bottom feeder.

Who cares where he goes? I’m a UGA fan and my biggest concern is upgrading our coaching staff. I’ll take great coaching over ballyhooed recruiting classes any day. Everbody makes such a big deal out of these so many supposed star recruits every year. And guess what? Most of them never even come close to meeting expectations. And for the record this years heisman trophy winner was a 3 star prospect. Recruiting services can’t measure a guys heart and determination. Remember david pollack? A 2 star recruit if I’m not mistaken. How many of these top rated recruits have come to UGA lately only to do absolutely nothing? Give me a great Defensive Coordinator then we can talk recruiting.

Agree with you lawyinlow — if we get a great DC, LB’s coach, and special teams, one year in recruiting will not kill us — they will come later. I’m tired of people who keep wanting HC’s to make a quick decision because they are worried about one year’s worth of recruits. We need to think long term, not short term results.

Who cares? I’m sick of these kids being treated like kings. I couldn’t coach college because I’d tell a kid what my program was all about and what we expect. I would tell him he would be welcomed and if told me he didn’t know, I would tell him to hit the road. If the Stripling kid visited my school with his hair like that I would tell him maybe he needed to go to Tech or Tennessee.

DaddyDawg,
My poor mother graduated Magna Cum Laude in English at UGa & managed to teach me a few things in spite of myself. You have done yourself proud. However, the word affect can also in rare form be used as a noun. For instance, “his voice has an unusual affect”,in this case meaning mannerism.

You are so correct…. What was the linebackers name from Colquit Ga that played for the Dogs 2 years ago? I can remember 5 or 6 years ago everybody was after him and he came to Georgia and I hardly ever heard his name called during a game. Another player that Ole Willie wasted.

I wasn’t trying to give a comprehensive review of all the uses of “affect’ and “effect,” just those that apply to the uses attempted by Chip Towers. For example, I could say that you have a flat affect, where affect, used as a noun, refers to something completely different than the “affect” used by Towers. Of course, you couldn’t quibble with my corrections to Towers’ articles because these were correct.

SE GA Lady:

Thanks for the support! Amazingly, it appears that you and I have had similar experiences at Bank of America. A few years ago, my aging mother executed a power of attorney I prepared at her direction, so that I could access her accounts at BoA, if needed on her behalf. When the power of attorney was given to the BoA rep, she told me that their legal department would decide whether BoA would honor it. When I told her that the power of attorney was prepared using the exact form expressly approved and adopted under Georgia law, she told me it didn’t matter. Needless to say, a few weeks later after BoA had finally given their “seal of approval” to a form already approved by Georgia law, I relished the opportunity to go back before the same BoA customer service rep, close all of my mother’s accounts, and tell her that I was moving them to a competing bank because of her rude, disrespectful behavior in handling the power of attorney in the first instance! You should do the same if BoA doesn’t respect you as a customer at all times……. they don’t have a right to use your money to make money for themselves unless you give them that right. BoA should change the title for their customer service reps to “customer no service”……….

LOLs Dixie. There would have been no reason for a power of attorney if there were a mere hundred dollars in a single account. The customer service rep’s attitude changed when she saw just how much her bank was losing because of her insolent behavior, but by that time, it was too late. I can only assume from the tenor of your post that you either work for BoA or have worked there in the past since your behavior is indicative of my experience with BoA reps………..

DaddyDawg,

Why were you so upset with Bank of America for taking a “few weeks”? You do understand that they weren’t doing this to just simply be a pain in the azz, right? They were trying to protect your mother and here identity. Perhaps, they were verifying your mothers signature. Maybe you they required a “specific power of attorney” and not a “general power of attorney” like the one that you supplied them. If I were you, I would have appreciated the fact that Bank of America has a process in place to not allow a “customer service rep” make a decision that she/he is unqualified to make. If anything, your rant makes me want to start banking there.

How would you have felt if some con artist stole all of your mother’s money because a customer service rep was fooled by a document? Exactly!

Not a Banker:

The form was executed, witnessed and notarized in the bank and by the bank! BoA also had IDs from everyone involved, but understand that neither my mother nor I was trying to do anything with her accounts that day, and we had no plans to do so in the future, unless my mother became ill at her advanced age. BoA had every reason under these circumstances to be kind to both of us, but instead, they openly questioned what their customers were doing, even though the customers had an absolute right to do what they did.. BoA gave a textbook example in this situation of how to lose customers……quickly!!

Florida Idiots Loose on Our Blog

December 15th, 2009
11:57 pm

For some reason, idiots (hmmm smell like a Gatorette Florida Gator homer to me) think that all things good about UGA are supposedly….bad…like:
1) all-american punter
2) espn ranked #4 recruiting class (last time in 2006 that happened, UGA finished #2 next year in 2007)
3) going to the same bowl game in Shreveport Bama went to in 2007
4) Beating #7 ranked team Ga Tech

I guess they’re still sore over the Florida Gators losing all those coaches, players, and Tebow having another bad year (Joe Cox outgunned him along with 60 other QB’s–Tebow was ranked #61).

What’s bad is Tebow throwing for 2 INT’s and 0 Td’s against Miss St. Well, to be fair, Tebow had a great game, against….somebody in 2009 right….oh yeah……Florida International.

Georgia Tech lost it's chance

December 16th, 2009
12:43 am

Georgia Tech has one brief window of opportunity…a down year for UGA this season with a bad quarterback and having not yet rid themselves of Martinez. Unfortunately, Georgia Tech STILL lost to UGA…despite it being arguably their best team in a decade facing UGA’s worst in a decade.

I’m afraid the brief party is over for Georgia Tech. The triple option isn’t going to cut it against higher-tier, non-ACC teams…as always, very few top recruits are going to choose Tech (why would they?), and UGA is only going to be a tougher opponent next season and for the forseeable future.

There’s nothing to indicate Georgia Tech is ever going to do more than beat Georgia about once every 8 to 10 years. As it should be.

Oh and Panama City Beach Mike…I appreciate your offer to blow me but I don’t swing that way. Sorry. Check with Stinger…he sounds like a closet case.
