Tech’s recruits hurting from Georgia loss, too

Last Saturday’s loss to Georgia hurt future Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets almost as much as it did the current ones.

Most of Tech’s 12 commitments for the signing class of 2010 were in attendance as the Bulldogs pulled off a 30-24 upset of the then-No. 7-ranked Yellow Jackets.

“I was surprised,” said Denzel McCoy, a defensive line commitment from Northview High. “I was like, wow, when we got down like that at first. But I know last year we were down by even more going into the half. So I figured we were going to come back, which we started to do. But turnovers and penalties can make or break a game and that hurt us. There were some penalties that weren’t called, too. That had an effect also.”

McCoy said he and UGA commitments Garrison Smith and Brandon Burrows have been “getting after each other” via text message before, during and after the game.

One of Tech’s prized commitments is AJC Super 11 selection B.J. Bostic of Jefferson County. He’s a high school quarterback but will play cornerback for the Jackets.

“I wasn’t too happy with Tech’s defense, especially the way they were running right up the gut,” Bostic said. “They weren’t doing anything special, just right up the gut.”

None of the prospects were allowed in Tech’s locker room after the game but they did visit with some of the players in the players’ lounge after the game.

“I talked to a couple of them I know,” McCoy said. “But you could just tell from their expressions they were upset. It was a hard loss, especially for the seniors because they’re not going to get a chance to play Georgia again. A lot of guys are down about it.”

Said Bostic: “Nobody was in the mood to talk. You could see it on everybody’s faces. Everybody was down and out.”

But, Bostic added, so was he. “I feel like my team lost. I feel like I was a part of it. I know it’s going to be motivation for me during offseason workouts.”

At least the Jackets have a possible ACC championship to fall back on.

“I think it’s an honor for us to be in the game,” McCoy said. “We have worked so hard this season and we deserve the shot to be in this game and win it. I can’t wait to hopefully be playing in it next year.”

bigger picture of the ACC is that both of their division champions had the hob nail boot ran down their throats by mid-level performing teams from the SEC this year. That poses an interesting question, Have there ever been two teams playing for any conference championship coming off weeks were they both lost???

Wow, thats really bad. Top of ACC = lower third of SEC?? Wonder if GT uses that fact as a recruiting tool?

I hope all recruits noticed that Tech couldn’t even sell out that puny stadium for the Virginia Tech game. Watching a game on North Avenue is as exciting as watching paint dry. They have to offer hot dogs and cokes to try and sell tickets.

If you want to play in the best conference in the land in front of 92,000 screaming fans, play between the hedges.

wreckage may win a she she, and may win a bowl and end ;up 12-2. GaDawgs dominated larva mano a mano and definitely are the better team with better athletes. Let any acc, little 12, little 10, puff 10 team play a SEC schedule and see the scales weigh them in the balance. All will come up lacking. SEC teams have a game every week not once in a blue moon.GaDawgs have lost 5 times but there are not a handful more teams that can beat us in the entire nation. Georgia is one of the best athletic programs on the planet period. It is great to be a Georgia Bulldawg!!

Now, now, fellow Dawgs. We mustn’t be too hard on Saint Simons, YellowFuzz, and all those other Techies. I personally think they deserve the credit for this year’s win. They gave us the inspiration to do what needed to be done. We deserve to be laughed at when we lose to Tech. And now, we can advance into next year having learned some valuable lessons.

I love it when Techies like GTfanfrom1951 talk about how UGA is a “cow” college. Have you ever been to Athens? In an area 1/50th of the size of Atlanta you have some of the best dining, live entertainment, and shopping in the Southeast. Granted, the quantity isn’t worth comparing, but the quality is outstanding. Add that to the fact that UGA’s tradition of existence as the oldest public institution in the country coincides with its atheltic superiority and academic achievements (e.g. as a reminder, we are one of the few academic institutions in the country with two Rhodes Scholars in the same year, and eight overall), and your comment of a “cow” or “hick” or “country” school is laughable; almost as laughable as the NATS’s crime rate.

We’ve kicked your ass 8 out of 9 years, including the best team for you geeks since you backed into the championship in 1990. Shut the hell up, and admit your program wouldn’t be jack shiz in the SEC. What does it say about your conference when the two teams playing for the championship get beat by two 7 & 5 SEC teams?

Congrats to the Dogs. I know how good it must feel to finally (this year) beat a good team. We lost because you have a great field goal kicker, Nesbitt got hurt, and you did not lose your fumbles like you usually do in the second half. Your team would have a better record if not for turnovers and penalties, but that is part of the game. Injuries, penalties, and turnovers result in upsets. There are only 6 undefeated teams. There are no 1 loss teams. There are 8 two loss teams. Our season will be judged based on the entire body of work. We have more work to do. TECH would rather be 10-2 than 7-5 like UGA. It hurts to lose any game but especially to your in state rivalry team because you lose bragging rights for the next year. The rest of the nation looks at this loss as an upset and that is why we still have our #10 BCS Ranking. Go Jackets. Beat Clemson.
You need to learn to win with class and to lose with class. The game was close.

Johnson has to downplay the UGA game. How else will he keep Tech players from being totally depressed as they get used to losing to UGA 3 out of 4 years. UGA rules 34-12 in the last 46 years. Go Dawgs!

So you think LSU is no good? Tell me what happened last year when Tech played them in their bowl game?
Then GT Fan said…
We lost because you have a great field goal kicker. Really? He failed to mention #4 and #24 leaving cleat tracks all over his defense ALL NIGHT LONG!!! Quit while youre ahead man. Tech has had a great year and will win the ACC. Georgia sent 1/3 of last years team to the NFL and will be better next year. Maybe the loser of the Bama/Fla. game will get to play Tech in their bowl game. Write your own punch line for that one.

To Fan of the SEC…#4 and #24 had great nights and exposed our weak defense. You however only scored 3 touchdowns. So did we. You made 3 field goals. We made one and missed one. If we had not missed one we would have only needed a field goal at the end of the game and not a touchdown to tie the score and go to overtime. Do not devalue the importance of a good field goal kicker. Just ask Tennessee.

“Hey dawgs,

Well considering we OUT RECRUIT GT every single year, I’ll take our recruiting any day. We have multiple top 10 recruiting classes in a row, Tech can’t break the top 30. And we played 4 top 10 teams this season, how can anyone say we didn’t play “anyone”? Um excuse me, isn’t this the same GT that had to beat WF in OT?! Please, GT football is a joke. Last years game was a fluke, and we had to lose one to keep it a “rivalry” 8 of 9. As to the “country, hick, and cow” comments, If thats the case then I guess Tech consists of the ” Ghetto, asian, and world of warcraft” Oh wait.. they do. Oops.
