Tobias Harris chooses Vols over Georgia Tech

Sorry but I got pulled off on the Uga VII story. But in case you didn’t see it, five-star power forward Tobias Harris signed with Tennessee over Georgia Tech and five other schools (Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Syracuse and West Virginia).

Following is an account from the Baltimore Sun:

Tobias Harris, the five-star forward from Dix Hills, N.Y., has made his decision.

“I’m going to be playing my college basketball at the University of Tennessee,” said Harris, who announced his decision live on ESPNU Thursday night.

Harris picked the Volunteers over Maryland, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Syracuse and West Virginia.

“I really had a great relationship with Coach [Bruce] Pearl and Coach [Tony] Jones,” Harris said. “It’s just a family atmosphere down there. I got along with the players real well and it’s just a great opportunity and fit for me.”

Maybe he can learned to pull of armed robberies and steal merchandise from stores better than the football players. Hope Tobias can survive the pressure to become a thug at Tennessee!

Maybe you Hewitt supporters will finally understand that he cannot coach. Before last year you all said we would do much better than the year before and we went 2-14 in the ACC. This year you all said wait until the hot frosh come in. Take a look. We will have a losing record in the ACC this year. He cannot coach and must go.

Sadly enough I don’t blame the kid. No one looks good in orange but Coach Hewitt ain’t getting the job done. We are as bad as UGA in football. We get all the “whatever number of stars you need recruits” and don’t do a darn thing with them. Recruits don’t mean jack, you have to coach them now and then coach them up. Just like in Athens, we ain’t doing squat. We lost to Dayton! Don’t give me that crap about how good they are either, we are “supposed” to be an ACC contender. Yeah right, I got some ocean front land in Clayton County I will sell you too. Come PH, get your butt in gear. You are a great guy but time is short.

Ramblinwreck you miss the point. It is not recruiting it is coaching. He has recruited pretty well, but the results are pitiful. He simply cannot coach and he has to go. Our program is a mess. We will have a losing record in the ACC this year.

ramblinwreck is clueless. Tennessee has great basketball talent and a fantastic coach. Harris won’t be the only blue chip player to sign with the Vols this class – mark it down. GT will underachieve again this year. Go Vols!

Since the dawgs are never good in basketball….glad to see him make a smart decision and not pick Tech. Great pick up for the Vols and the SEC…not expecting anything different for us in Fox. Way to lose to Dayton and the Vols…..Tech is a bunch of losers!

the problem with GT and Paul Hewitt is that he just can’t keep the players from being injured or declaring early for the draft. I think that really killing him and the team.

Flo-ri-duh There is a very good reason you can’t stand Pearl the magnificent. He just beats Billy’s butt like a jungle drum. Why are you jealous? Billy can recruit but when he goes up against Pearl he stands on the sideline with no idea what to do. It is a comical sight. So far he has beaten him with talent that Billy wouldn’t have recruited. Watch what he does with all of the guys he’s taking away from the state of Georgia plus the # 5 player in America. You Tech fans should just relax and be happy that you have a great football team. Basketball will have to wait a few years.

It’s hilarious to see Tech fans pick on UT arrests. You guys live in Atlanta. Just flip on the news at night or go down to Grady for a reminder of how safe your fair city is. Every school has their thugs.

Your headline shows your bias. Why include gt in it when there were what 7-8 shcools in the running. Why not just say he chose Tenn. Anything to put GT in a bad light right chip? I mean, we got the photos of you at games in athens wearing uga stuff. Nice accurate reporting.

He went to UT because Memphis already has signed three 5 star recruits for next year. He would not have been able to get on the court at Memphis.

And RamblinWreck, what has GT done with all of those 5 star recruits? Nuff said.

Bobby G

Taco, Tech didn’t lose to Dayton, they lost to Dayton’s BENCH! Their two top scorers scored 0 and 7 points, respectively. UD is ranked for a reason – - they are a very, very solid team from top to bottom and know how to win the tough games, and aren’t intimidated by “BCS” teams (they are 7 -2 in their last 9 meetings against “BCS” schools, including Louisville, Pitt and WVa). Tech will do OK this season – maybe 18 – 10, but their team is just too young to gut it out down the stretch in the ACC. Hewett’s job is definitely on the line if he misses the Big Dance.

Fire Hewitt, he is a second rate high school coach who is spending his 1,000,000 dollars a year on racial division instead of winning the division.

Hey yall sorry I passed on Tech but I wanted to show off my skills against the weak SEC rather than get big national exposure, but have tougher match-ups, in the bigger markets in the ACC and Big East. I’ll take 2 tough games against Kentucky over playing against UNC, Duke, Louisville, UConn, Pitt, and G’Town. SU has a great class already and I don’t want Dion Waiters stealing my shots. At UT, I can have padded stats that further enhance my 2011 NBA Draft status. Yall know I’m 1 and done.
