Tech recruit Tobias Harris to reveal choice at 6 p.m.

Tobias Harris, the highly-touted forward from New York who is considering Georgia Tech among his finalists, will announce his college decision on live television today at 6 p.m.

Harris, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound high school senior, signed a scholarship with either Tech, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Syracuse or West Virginia yesterday, the last day of the early signing period. But Harris will keep that a secret until this evening when he unveils it at the ESPN Zone in Manhattan’s Times Square.

Harris attends Half Hollow Hills West High in Glen Head, N.Y. Rivals.com rates him the No. 1 player at his position and the No. 5 prospect overall.

I agree, UT is probably the choice, but I will hold out some hope for my Cats.
He really turned up his potential this summer and will be a good addition to any school’s rotation.

He’ll go Maryland. Closer to home and a more stable coaching situation. Did y’all see Dayton beat tech in the first round today? We’ll know if Hewitt will be around next year in a month.

He goes to Cuse.. Tobias went to Tenn. to watch a game and tell the coach no in person..

Tobias will be in Syracuse next year, and be enjoying a #1 recruiting class.. Tech was never really an option… Tenn. was close, but it’s cuse.

Paul Hewitt could get the Atlanta hawks to come play in the thriller dome and still not win the ACC…its pathetic. If hewitt does his normal job of coaching, ie not developing players, Favors may be forced to stay another year…thats the only bright side I see right now. Dayton tried to hand us the game today and we gave it right back with our 26 turnovers…pathetic…I miss GT basketball.

Hewitt took Lawal out of the game with about 2:00 min left to play. Dayton scores a couple of times while he is on the bench in a span of 30 sec. Hewitt puts Lawal back in with about 1:30 to go in the game. Other than losing the game for GT, exactly what did Hewitt think he was doing ? Can someone please explain ?

Sad state of affairs when a high school kid has a press conference to announce what school gets his services for a year before he turns pro. I guess the thought of an education is out of the question with these guys! Oh well, if UGA cared about the game, maybe I could get excited like the others seem to! Yea, being only a “football school” really sux! Second thought, we are really a gymnastics school!

Recruiting is one thing. Developing players, another. But Hewitt is missing is ability to coach this team. Wins have gotten harder and harder to come by.

Tech fans are done watching poor fundamental basketball. We’re done watching guards just dribble around trying to “create”. We’re done watching games where they have almost 4X as many turnovers as they do assists. It’s too much of the same, five-star recruits, or not.

Hewitt is the Mark Richt of college basketball.

Early success that wasn’t his doing (Van Gorder = Jarett Jack). Great recruits that yield mediocre results.

Tech athletics will be focused on keeping Paul Johnson, I wonder if that will hamstring efforts to axe Hewitt?

Same crap, different year! 11-20 at foul line. 26 turn overs. 2 3-pointers. we have players you can only run and just. Have no clue how to shoot. I am getting sooooooooooooooooooooo sick of GT’s bball program. Someone has to go! We need the football team to win the ACC championdhip game so we can get the money to buy out one basketball coach.

We are soooo over Hewitt. We have been for a few years. We are just waiting patiently for the change. The fans have given up on him. No sell-outs, no interest. His style of basketball doesn’t sit well with GT fans and alum. I like the way Duke and UNC play basketball. Their kids grow up learning the fundamentals of basketball. They don’t ‘learn’ the game on a playground.

I was in the minority of people who defended Hewitt last year. Arguing that give him a pass last year, because things were out of his control, and losses weren’t his fault. But, I would judge him harshly this year.. and this is pathetic. 26 TO’s?? Its as if nothing was learned from last year.. He better do something quick, because I’ve been one of his supporters, and I’m losing confidence.

It’s going to be hard for this team to compete in the ACC when they have to go out and beat their head coach every night. With the talent on this roster, we should be a top-ten team. Instead, Hewitt will coach them to the bubble. This is embarrassing.

why SEC?

November 19th, 2009
9:55 pm

why go to the ACC when you are going to face Duke, UNC, et al and get punished for four years? Go to the SEC and beat teams like UGA.

Paul Hewitt is another David Braine hire that was a mistake. He is not a coach. He got lucky one time and it will cost GT a lot of money to get rid of him. I hope that we don’t have to put up with him much longer.

AMG

November 20th, 2009

When you have pro scouts talking about how players were badly under utilized and placed in bad situations frequently by bad coaching, you know something is really wrong. Paul Hewitt is NOT coaching anything at alll. He spends more time on his racially divided thoughts than actually coaching the team. If you gave UNC, Duke or Michigan the kind of talent that he has they would have been preseason top 5, but the college basketball people know Paul Hewitt does not know basketball. They actually knew this after the run in 2003-2004. There was a huge outcry about our road to the finals and how we should not have gotten such an easy road. This was parcially because word abot Hewitt was already spreading. He is a 1,000,000 dollar a year second rate high school coach. Fire him and hire someone cheap that will at least try to make things work.
