...can't believe we are arguing about basketball with NC fans...trust me, I live in Concord, NC and basketball fans up here are as egotistical as they come...just give up and walk away, knowing you are the better men, gentleman. They have very, very good basketball here but that is because all they have is basketball and women's field hockey. The SEC is the premier football conference and only in a year like this does another conference qualify as a close second. The ACC, top to bottom, is a better basketball conference. My ego doesn't get in the way of saying that.

If you pick a school on the last day of the early period and then keep it a secret till the spring; what is your motivation? Do not like the sound of that comment at all! Be careful Tech if you are the unlucky one chosen.

John Wooden -"mythical run to the championship game included no wins over higher-seeded teams"

Somethings are not even worth commenting on, but what the heck. So, say a #1 seed UNC team wins the tourney without beating a higher seed (because there are no higher seeds) that does not mean anything?

Anyway your are wrong, Tech, a 3 seed beat a 2 seed Ok St team. Regardless taking a team to the championship game is a rotatable achievement. You are a nob if you deny that. I agree that they have sucked since then,

"so why would any recruit want to go to tech"

Three letters - N.B.A.

A WALK ON at GT played for 2-3 years in the league. Most big time recruits and starters for uga don't play there that long, if at all.

uog has 2 players in the NBA this year, totaling about 110 minutes so far. That's about 5-7 minutes a game per player. Conversely, GT has INDIVIDUALS who have played more minutes than all uga players. Bosh (286); Jack (199); Bynum (210); Young (281); Morrow (208).

So you can go to uog and your best bet is to play a fraction of a game during mop-up duty, or you can go to GT, become an all star, and start. If GT is the Gardner Web of the ACC, Georgia is the Cumberland College of the SEC.

What's that? Dominique Wilkins? He hasn't stepped on a court in a decade and hasn't worn anything with the words uga on it since Herschel was still playing.

Are you idiots kidding?

ACC has had 28 teams in final fours since 1981. SEC has had 16 teams. That's almost double. ACC has also won more championships (7-5) over the same period, even though its much easier to win a championship coming out of the SEC (cake schedule for much of the year - players are well rested and records are inflated, meaning a more beneficial seed). Yeah, Florida's had some good teams. But those would have been 9-7 or 10-6 teams in the ACC at BEST.

Plus, there is nothing about Florida that makes me ooh or aah. NIT the past two years? Please. Great programs don't go to the NIT. Decent ones do. Besides one class of players (who Donovan probably gave and arm and a leg to get and more to stay), UF basically hasn't gotten out of the second round of the tourney save a couple of fluke seasons.

UF is a decent program. That's the only one the SEC has. ACC has two great programs and a handful of decent ones.

Lou Vales
In fact the SEC has 9 NCAA Basketball Championships.

Yes but the SEC is Kentucky period. Yes the gators won two, great run but you will not see it again and they will be irrelevant again, actually they are irrelevant now, but I digress. SEC basketball is Kentucky so I would not crow to loud, take them out and you have nothing.

Um, UCLA won a couple of championships. And who is the idiot who said GaTech is on the verge of being an annual Top 10 basketball program?? If you guys think Hewitt is a good coach, I will laugh in your face continuously until Sunday! His mythical run to the championship game included no wins over higher-seeded teams, and he has been extremely average since. If Favors gets you to the sweet 16, that team will go no further. Bank it. I know basketball. Signed, The Coach

Let's face it...the tech basketball program is just average at best. Hewitt has wasted talent the previous years, so why would any recruit want to go to tech? Tech has become the Gardner-Webb of the ACC.

Watch out for Auburn. We actually have a coaching staff that spends time recruiting instead of sitting in their cushy offices.

Additionally, Auburn is going to win this weekend. Thats all I gotta say.

Three teams from the SEC total 11 national championships (Kentucky has over 70% of them). Three teams from NC have a total of 10 (UNC 5, Duke 3, NCState 2), and Maryland has one, for a total of 11. In addition, Wake, GaTech UVa, Clemson, Fla State, VaTech, Boston College, and Miami have all been in the top 10 on numerous occasions. The SEC simply has not been as strong from top-to-bottom over the years, Take Kentucky away, and no SEC team has a history (Florida's was only recent and short-lived) than equals even Wake or GaTech. Wake has been a top-ten program for many years now, not every year, but more often than not.

Yes. They won in 1994 and were definently a part of the SEC.

I think the SEC has more than 9 national championships. Lets see Rupp had 5 national championships. Joe b. hall 1, rick pitino 1, and tubby smith 1. So that is eight total for kentucky. Florida has two national championships and Arkansas has 1 national championship. Correct me if I'm wrong but that right there would be 11 national championships. In fact I believe that the SEC actually has one more national title than the vaunted and much publicized basketball conference called the ACC.

The GT Basketball program is on the verge of becoming a consistent TOP 10 TEAM with a shot at the NC almost every year!!

One could ALMOST say the same thing about the GT Football program since we have Coach PJ running the show!! (If NCAA Football had an 8 team playoff system, I would say we are already there!)

Wow..........what a GREAT time to be a GT fan!!

Pay attention Fort Worth Dawg, no state can boast three schools with multiple NCAA basketball titles other than North Carolina.

Kentucky and California, off the top of my head, also have multiple schools with NC's. If Louisville has more than one then KY is in. Fairly certain there's several CA schools with multiples (without bothering to Google it).

Sorry. The point I was trying to make was only about 20 teams in America have a chance of winning a Championship and yet there is the feeling the "NEXT" recruiting class at all the other schools will turn it around. In actuality, NO.

I think the state of California has 5 more championships that the state of NC. Who cares.
Pac 10 has 15, SEC has 9, who cares.
This blog was about recruiting by Georgia schools. Can't there be such a discussion without someone shouting the cumulative championships of a conference, state or school. Particularly a school that is tied for 7th on the list.
