Auburn lands ESPN’s No. 1 back in America, Michael Dyer

Michael Dyer, one of the top-ranked tailbacks in America, committed to Auburn on Friday.

Dyer (5-foot-8, 200), from Little Rock Christian in Little Rock, Ark., is considered the No. 1 running back in the country by ESPN, and No. 3 by Scout.com and Rivals.com. He chose the Tigers over Arkansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida and Alabama.

The big question is how Dyer’s commitment will affect the nation’s otehr top-rated backs. Marcus Lattimore of Duncan, S.C., and Lache Seastrunk of Temple, Texas, ranked 1 and 2 by the other services, were also considering Auburn.

The general thought was that two backs of that ilk wouldn’t go to the same school. But Dyer insists there is a possibility that Lattimore could also end up on the Plains.

“The last few weeks, me and Marcus Lattimore have had conversations and sent texts back and forth trying to figure out what’s going on and to see if he’s going to go to Auburn or not,” Dyer told ESPN’s JC Shurburtt. “I told him it would be great for both of us to come out there and tag-team and run the ball. He seemed to be very respectful like he would fit into Auburn. I have been working on him to get him to commit there. He’s a nice guy and it would be pretty amazing to get him to commit to Auburn.”

Lattimore is also considering Georgia (along with South Carolina, North Carolina, Penn State and Florida State) but has long been considered a South Carolina lean.

Can you say Auburn gets #1 … brown goes to florida … tennsee gets a great back from georgia … lattimore not coming to georgia? we’ll have the same backs in the backfield next year (exception of samuels at lb). what’s wrong at tailback u … they don’t have a quality running back. how did CMR let georgia get in this mess? why are the quality rb’s going elsewhere? what in the world’s going on in athens? looks like the same old same old … everyone else moving up and georgia falling like a rock. time to really press CMR for what’s going on.

Larry, Larry, your UGA homer ignorance is showing. That list is a joke. Lars Tate? Musa Smith? Robert Edwards? Really?? Making it to the NFL, doesn’t count you have to have an impact. I’ll give you Rodney Hampton just because I can, but the only ones of that list that meant anything were Terrel Davis (who was your best NFL back) Hershel (who’s biggest contribution was that he was involved in the most lopsided trade ever) and Tim Worle to a MUCH lesser degree.
Auburn had bonafide stud NFL running backs. Bo,who would have been the best ever had he not been injured. If you don’t know Joe Cribbs (Bills)and James Brooks (Bengals)go do a little research both stars. William Andrews a star for our Falcons, Fullwood a star for the Packers, Davis a star for the Redskins, Rudi a star for the Bengals. And of course I’m sure you know about Caddy, Ronnie and Brandon. The rest have had UGA star like careers, in the NFL just not distingished.
Tailback U is Auburn, hands down.

Good for Gene Chizik and Auburn. At 6-3 (3-3 SEC) for the 2009 season, the Tigers have already exceeded expectations for the year. With a little luck, Auburn will finish 8-4 (4-4 SEC), then the outcome of the recruiting war will begin to tell the tale. Chizik can coach, and he has bought himself a year or two with his fans if he can continue to show progress in the win-loss column. If he can recruit on par with, or at least relatively close to, Nick Saban and rival Alabama, he should have his Tigers in conference title contention in a couple of years.

Unfortunately, that will be just in time for a rejuvenated Auburn to renew its 94 year-old rivalry with Florida in 2011. And former Gator Chizik should be plenty motivated when his current team faces off against his alma mater.

Bobby P

Dyer is a stud on the field (holds AR rushing records) but questionable off the field. AR recruited him, as they should, but didn’t push hard due to his “demands”. He is a prima donna (check out YouTube) who will fizzle. He’s attached to Malzahn who won’t be there in two years. But go ahead and mark it up to good recruiting. And is always the case, check back in a couple of years about his status. Just ask UGA about all their recent 4,5 star RB recruits.

yes….Mack Strong had a very long & distinguished career as a FB w/the Seahawks. He blocked for Shaun Alexander in his heyday (when they went to the SB), & had a much longer career then Alexander.
Patrick Pass, not so much. He pretty much fizzled w/the Patriots after various injuries.

How far back do you want to go?

You Auburn Goobers need to accept the fact that no one around the country thinks of this sub par academic institution parked downstream of the contaminated Chattahoochee river west of Columbus when they think of football in Alabama–they think of the University of Alabama. Auburn is where the dumb south Georgia and south Alabama farm boys that can run fast go when they can qualify for or are not recruited by Georgia, Alabama or Florida. Running backs U? Ha! How many National Championships have your running backs powered you to and how many Super Bowls have fomer Auburn runnings backs started in?

Larry who leads the series with between UGA and Auburn, that is in spite of your team winning the last three. And when did you go to school there, you remind me of the mullets that pull for that other school in our state, if they could spell as well as they worship the program of a school they have no real attachment too the academic achievement of Alabama would double overnight. Larry, two things. First Bo Jackson is far from dumb. In his football years he was clearly uncomfortable speaking in public. Most likely because Bo Jackson had a speech impediment. The O Line is terrible this year and that’s why the running game sucks. Herschel Walker would look mediocre behind these guys. We have a stable full of quality backs but they aren’t getting help up front. Searels was considered a God at his job last season after patching the O Line because of all the injuries but he has no excuses for all the penalties this year. How many false starts today? Too many for a O Line corps that was supposed to be very good this year. Richt had better start holdind ALL of his assistants accountable or he’ll find his spot on the hot seat soon. Kijnd of feel sorry for Willie at times. He needs to go but he’s the one singled out for an overall pitiful coaching staff. To Larry and your comparison of AU vs. UGA backs,

You seem to have a selective Memory,

Starting Backwards with Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown,

Don’t forget about Hmmmm, Stephen Davis, or how about Hmmmm Rudi Johnson, and Hmmmm Brandon Jacobs. I think those guys are quit respected in the NFL. Hey, there is also a fullback named Heath Evans that has more Super Bowl Rings than 90% of the guys in the NFL. Tony Richardson has had one of the longest careers in the NFL and has a couple of Rings.

I’m just getting started. All of the guys I just named have ACTUALLY PRODUCED in the NFL.

Hey, now I can add names like Bo Jackson, Joe Cribbs, and even Lionel James who produced quit well in his niche with San Dieago.

Only 2, and possibly a 3rd in the near future, have even produced in the NFL.

I haven’t even thrown in the stable of backs Auburn has produced that equal your top list, like Bostic, Irons, Joseph, Beasley, etc.

Man, don’t forget Andrews, Brooks and Cribbs.

Also don’t forget Brent Fullwood who had more yards per carry than Bo Jackson and also had a Stephen Davis type career in the NFL in his day.

Don’t talk about what you do not know about. Your lack of judgement of talent is typical of UGA and how you guys wonder why things slide when they do or when your team doesn’t reach its expectations.

GO DAWGS! Beat Auburn!

Life long dawg fan here. If my dawgs can’t get it together this year (no legitimate reason they shouldn’t have) then I’ll be forced to cheer for the other. I hope GT whips everyone’s a$$ for the remainder of the year and either plays for the BCSNC or helps expose it for the bull$hit system it is!!! Go Boise, TCU, Cinci, and Tech!!!

There is alot of Georgia boys on her who know nothing about football on the plains and you dog fans should worry about your problems up in Athens.and who is this gamecock nutjob who said OUR boy is a lock at SC? He and Michael are GOOD freinds and Michael is pressuring him to tag team in the backfeild on the plains with him.Tennnesee and Florida will be at the top of the SEC East for a while so bye bye dogs and the cocks will never be anymore than average.and YES! Michael Dyer is 5-8 and he will run over Georgia sooner than you would probably like.Sorry? dont look now but Auburn is headed back to there former dominance with that “why the hell did they hire him” coach who just happened to turn a 5-7 team into a 9 or 10 win team in “1″ year and also recruited the VERY best back in the nation who is also a great kid.just remember his name, you will be hearing alot.”MICHAEL DYER”-War Eagle Baby!
