Michael Dyer, one of the top-ranked tailbacks in America, committed to Auburn on Friday.
Dyer (5-foot-8, 200), from Little Rock Christian in Little Rock, Ark., is considered the No. 1 running back in the country by ESPN, and No. 3 by Scout.com and Rivals.com. He chose the Tigers over Arkansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida and Alabama.
The big question is how Dyer’s commitment will affect the nation’s otehr top-rated backs. Marcus Lattimore of Duncan, S.C., and Lache Seastrunk of Temple, Texas, ranked 1 and 2 by the other services, were also considering Auburn.
The general thought was that two backs of that ilk wouldn’t go to the same school. But Dyer insists there is a possibility that Lattimore could also end up on the Plains.
“The last few weeks, me and Marcus Lattimore have had conversations and sent texts back and forth trying to figure out what’s going on and to see if he’s going to go to Auburn or not,” Dyer told ESPN’s JC Shurburtt. “I told him it would be great for both of us to come out there and tag-team and run the ball. He seemed to be very respectful like he would fit into Auburn. I have been working on him to get him to commit there. He’s a nice guy and it would be pretty amazing to get him to commit to Auburn.”
Lattimore is also considering Georgia (along with South Carolina, North Carolina, Penn State and Florida State) but has long been considered a South Carolina lean.

Can you say Auburn gets #1 … brown goes to florida … tennsee gets a great back from georgia … lattimore not coming to georgia? we’ll have the same backs in the backfield next year (exception of samuels at lb). what’s wrong at tailback u … they don’t have a quality running back. how did CMR let georgia get in this mess? why are the quality rb’s going elsewhere? what in the world’s going on in athens? looks like the same old same old … everyone else moving up and georgia falling like a rock. time to really press CMR for what’s going on.

Funny that Georgia has a tailback “problem” when we just had a 1st rounder drafted from the team in last year’s draft class. Wow, Mark really does suck at that, doesn’t he?

We have had the top running backs in Georgia for the last two years. They are not very good at this point. Problem is the offensive line and these guys. We did not choose the talent.

Georgia doesn’t have a great back coming in? Ken Malcolme is 6′ and 225 lbs and runs a 4.45 40 yd dash. Please research his numbers compared to any other “top rated back”. How many first rounders has Tech had in the last 10 years compared to Georgia? How many top 10 finishes has Tech had compared to UGA? Tech Fans, Talk your sh*t now, and cry later, just like you have the last 35 years when playing UGA, morons!

Uga is definitely not Running Back U as long as Auburn rightly holds that title in this league. Our list is better than yours by far. This guy as well as the other one he likely brings with him confirms it. You guys will get to see two more of them on our list in two weeks, Tate and McCaleb. Owww. That’s gonna hurt. It might prove to be the nail in CMR’s coffin. War Eagle dammit.

None of Richt’s running backs have really impressed me, including Moreno, who is 35th in the NFL per average gain. Actually, come to think of it, I haven’t been too impressed by any of his players since Van Gorder left.

Larry, Larry, your UGA homer ignorance is showing. That list is a joke. Lars Tate? Musa Smith? Robert Edwards? Really?? Making it to the NFL, doesn’t count you have to have an impact. I’ll give you Rodney Hampton just because I can, but the only ones of that list that meant anything were Terrel Davis (who was your best NFL back) Hershel (who’s biggest contribution was that he was involved in the most lopsided trade ever) and Tim Worle to a MUCH lesser degree.
Auburn had bonafide stud NFL running backs. Bo,who would have been the best ever had he not been injured. If you don’t know Joe Cribbs (Bills)and James Brooks (Bengals)go do a little research both stars. William Andrews a star for our Falcons, Fullwood a star for the Packers, Davis a star for the Redskins, Rudi a star for the Bengals. And of course I’m sure you know about Caddy, Ronnie and Brandon. The rest have had UGA star like careers, in the NFL just not distingished.
Tailback U is Auburn, hands down.

Good for Gene Chizik and Auburn. At 6-3 (3-3 SEC) for the 2009 season, the Tigers have already exceeded expectations for the year. With a little luck, Auburn will finish 8-4 (4-4 SEC), then the outcome of the recruiting war will begin to tell the tale. Chizik can coach, and he has bought himself a year or two with his fans if he can continue to show progress in the win-loss column. If he can recruit on par with, or at least relatively close to, Nick Saban and rival Alabama, he should have his Tigers in conference title contention in a couple of years.
Unfortunately, that will be just in time for a rejuvenated Auburn to renew its 94 year-old rivalry with Florida in 2011. And former Gator Chizik should be plenty motivated when his current team faces off against his alma mater.

Dyer is a stud on the field (holds AR rushing records) but questionable off the field. AR recruited him, as they should, but didn’t push hard due to his “demands”. He is a prima donna (check out YouTube) who will fizzle. He’s attached to Malzahn who won’t be there in two years. But go ahead and mark it up to good recruiting. And is always the case, check back in a couple of years about his status. Just ask UGA about all their recent 4,5 star RB recruits.

Bobby P….wow.
Dyer holds most of the Ark state rushing records? I would hardly call that a 1-way ticket to college success.
That’s like saying “he holds the all-time rushing record at Hawaii”
Or…”he’s the best Russian baseball player ever”
Or…”he’s the most impressive Italian sumo wrestler the world has ever seen”
put in in context you jacka$$. Who’s records did he break? How old are they?

yes….Mack Strong had a very long & distinguished career as a FB w/the Seahawks. He blocked for Shaun Alexander in his heyday (when they went to the SB), & had a much longer career then Alexander.
Patrick Pass, not so much. He pretty much fizzled w/the Patriots after various injuries.
How far back do you want to go?
I don’t know many details, but pretty sure both Sinkwich & Trippi played Pro Ball.
Maybe someone out there could chime in re those 2.
The jury is still out on Danny Ware (Giants).

You Auburn Goobers need to accept the fact that no one around the country thinks of this sub par academic institution parked downstream of the contaminated Chattahoochee river west of Columbus when they think of football in Alabama–they think of the University of Alabama. Auburn is where the dumb south Georgia and south Alabama farm boys that can run fast go when they can qualify for or are not recruited by Georgia, Alabama or Florida. Running backs U? Ha! How many National Championships have your running backs powered you to and how many Super Bowls have fomer Auburn runnings backs started in?
