Georgia is making a major push to recruit Gainesville quarterback Blake Sims. And it has created a bit of a moral dilemma for the player and his family.
Sims, an AJC Super 11 selection and one of the early favorites for all-classification player of the year honors, has been committed to Alabama since April. But Bulldogs’ head coach Mark Richt, who has had a relationship with Sims and his family for four years, has taken a personal interest in changing Sims’ mind and convincing him to come to UGA instead.
“That was pretty cool,” Blake’s father, Sonny Sims, said of getting a phone call from Richt on Monday. “Coach Richt has been part of Blake’s life for a long time. We’ve got pictures of Blake with Coach Richt as a 9th grader. That’s why we couldn’t understand why Georgia didn’t snag him early because he’d been groomed all his life for Georgia. Everything in our house was Georgia. We were shocked when Blake committed to Alabama. It just happened. He didn’t even give me a chance to talk to him about it. He just did it. But he did and we’ve got a good relationship now with Coach [Nick] Saban. So it’s a tough situation.”
Sims declined comment for this story and deferred to his father and Gainesville coach Bruce Miller. “Me and his father are going to handle this,” Miller said. “It’s a touchy situation and we want keep Blake out of it.”
Miller said Georgia’s head coach asked “for the chance to sit down and talk with them.” And that has been both flattering and flustering for the Sims family.
“Here’s what we’re dealing with: The parents a love Coach Richt,” Sonny Sims said. “Blake loves coach Richt. We’ve known him for four years and we think he’s the perfect man for our child to live with for the next four years. But we also raised Blake to believe that his word is his bond. And Coach [Nick] Saban is an honorable man, too. So Blake gave his word on one side but his heart is on the other side.”
Georgia is not the only school still coming after Sims. Florida, Tennessee and Michigan are all actively pursuing Sims. And it has gotten considerably more intense of late.
“I don’t know where all this is coming from,” Sims said.
Where it’s coming from is the season that Sims is having. The 6-foot, 180-pound athlete has 1,114 yards and 16 touchdowns passing, 345 yards and six touchdowns rushing and two catches for 148 yards and two TDs. All that despite Sims rarely playing into the fourth quarter for the undefeated Red Elephants (7-0), ranked No. 1 in Class AAA.
I asked Mr. Sims if they were disappointed Georgia did not act quicker on Blake, who has attended Georgia’s football camps every year since the 9th grade.
“I think Coach Richt is just a real honorable and real respectful man,” Sonny Sims said. “And that might hurt him in this world we live in today because everybody’s so aggressive.”
It sounds like Richt is going to get a second chance.
“I know one thing that’s going to happen: He IS going to sit down and talk to Coach Richt,” Sonny Sims said. “That’s got to happen because half of the things we raised Blake on were from things Coach Richt said.”
Be sure to tune back in later this afternoon to read about Georgia’s recruiting relationship with Gainesville High School. It will post at 4:45 p.m.

Blake, realize that CMR is not the pushy type and not quick to rush you into making a decision. I never saw CMR not honor a scholorship offer even if the player was hurt during their senior year. On the other hand, Saban’s history of indecisiveness has created some questions regarding his integrity. There is no doubt that CMR wants you to run his system and there is no doubt that this man will be loyal to you. Just take a look at how he has handled Joe Cox and his coordinators during all of this recent turmoil.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens. Sounds like his parents have raised him well. I don’t blame him for committing early, seems like there is so much pressure on these kids to say SOMETHING that they end up saying yes before they might be ready. The selfish side of me wants him in Athens…on the other hand it would be a real breath of fresh air to see him honor his word.

It sounds like Richt is desperate after this pitiful season he’s having. One thing is inevitable: Richt is in the hot seat. He’s going to be forced to pull a Tuberville and fire a good bit of his staff after this year. Why would Blake Sims want to sign with a team that due for a complete coaching change? At 6′0″, he’s not an SEC QB by stature alone. Look at Chris Leak. Yeah, he was good in college, but he’s not even in the league right now (to my knowledge). Bama intends to use him as a slot receiver, which makes more sense.
All in all, Sims needs to make the choice that best suits his needs. I was almost a Dawg when Goff was the HC. However, my senior year in HS, he was fired. I see the same fate for Richt. The game seems to be too fast for him now that Bama is back to prominence. The game of recruiting is a year round match for Saban. It’s hard to keep up with him, love him or hate him. Just ask Tuberville. He didn’t like giving up his yearly duck hunting vacations to recruit. Now, look at the depth Auburn lacks as a result.
I respect Richt, but I think the game has passed him. You rarely see a changing of the guard that works without changing the HC too. Either way, best of luck to Blake Sims.

I’ve personally saw Simms play. He’s good but not the atypical SEC Quarterback. If Richt will experiment with some option or Wildcat packages Simms might fit the bill there. But if he chooses to stick to the predictable Pro Style offense, Simms will not flourish and that would be no good for him or Georgia.

In addition, I’m on the planet that’s watching UGA get handled every Saturday by subpar teams. I’m also on the planet that watched UGA get dealt with during their “blackout”. I’m on the planet that’s seen this happen to bigger and better coaches. If Richt doesn’t compete for the SEC East next year, he’s gone. If you want to make a wager, shut your mouth and open your wallet. He’s just like Tubs. He had a run at glory, but had to settle for mediocrity. He was hired about two weeks later by Bama.
Now, he is a good coach, but honorable is one word I wouldn’t use. Saban is all about Saban. If he had his way, The National Championship Trophy at LSU would say ” Nick Saban, National Champion”.

There is very little honor among college coaches. CMR is right in the mudpile with Saban, and Kiffin. It should be an NCAA rule that once a kid has committed he should be off limits to other schools. There is enough pressure on these kids without the coaches being able to continue to contact a kid after a decision has been made.

With that said, he’s 18, the recruiting game can be tough on these kids and he may have jumped the gun a little bit. If Georgia is what he’s known and loved and that’s where his heart is, then maybe that’s where he should go. He is the one that has to live with the decision.

JB,
You and others need a freaking reality check on Saban and you’re “he is an honorable man” sarcasm. When Saban said that he would not be the head coach at Alabama he meant it. He instructed his agent that he was focused on being the Dolphins coach and he flat out refused to communicate with Mal Moore or any other UA officials. He naturally assumed that Bama would just move on, look elsewhere and hire someone else rather than waiting over a month till the end of the pro season just to talk to him. But he didn’t realize that Bama was prepared to wait till after the season just to talk to him. It was after the season that he opened up and talked to Bama. He kept Dolphins owner Wayne Heizenga fully apprised of the situation. Its not as if he stabbed the man in the back or something.
As a matter of fact when he decided to leave Heizenga and Saban still remained on good terms and are still on good terms to this day. What does that tell you morons? It tells you that the media hatefest towards Saban was completely media generated because Saban has always considered dealing with the media a waste of his time. His sin wasn’t in the way he left the Dolphins. It was in not kissing up to the media and they later decided to pay him back with negative media coverage like I’ve never seen. You guys are a bunch of non thinking freaking idiots who just take any spoon fed propoganda that the media puts out don’t you?

The kid needs to attend whatever college he wants to, this isn’t Russia Danny. He probably could get away with deciding which, if any, games he would like to participate in too. Not life and death stuff here.
I don’t think anyone could go wrong playing for Saban. He seems like a stand-up guy. I would count him as one of the few I would feel comfortable letting my kid play for. But you bet your last dollar, If there was an Alabama kid that he had known for a long time and wanted to come play for him, he would certainly be pursuing him till he felt like it was no longer worthwhile, no matter where the kid thought he might go early on. I am sure he is doing that as we banter.
As far as these guy giving thier non-binding verbal committment, everybody knows the deal with those. First of all, it’s the big programs pushing for earlier commitments, not the kids. It’s an invitation. The schools wanted him. He accepted thier invite, he did not ask for a responsibility that he would be backing down on. What has the school actually done for him at that point? Same goes for the early commitment we get. I believe till a player signs, and they get thier first cheesburger, nobody owes anyone anything. After that, there is a debt of gratitude owed.
Now, if you want to play around and end up getting left out, that’s certainly a risk these kids take. But lets all be honest about this “moral” issue. UGA and Ala, and others want him for the purposes of improving thier football team. Nobody just loves the kid so much they are trying to figure out to just get him a college education. It’s all selfishly motivated. Nobody claims otherwise. And the parents are trying to figure out what is the best deal for the kid. They don’t owe anyone anything for wanting thier son. If he was 5″ shorter and half as fast they wouldn’t. Everyone will do what’s in thier best interest. And I am sure that his dad knows the difference between a moral contract and a decision subject to new information.

Whatever the kid decides to do I admire him for it. Kids these days are drawn to make an instant decision that will impact their lives heavily and it is no easy thing. Kudos to his parents and the coach who will handle the media while Blake works through the options and makes his decision in private. I commend him for that and the fact that Georgia is at his heart.
As a Dawg fan, I will be sad to see him play for Bama if that is what he chooses, but I will respect him still as a young man because he honored a commitment. He is in a win-win situation either way. Alabama has a great football program and is rich with tradition. Saban, while not the morally respectful character Mark Richt is, is still a darn fine coach. Many kids want to play for him and he consistently builds winners. Georgia is also a good football program that has a rich tradition and Mark Richt is a role model for all young men.
What is sad is whatever the young man decides, there will be people on the other side who will cry and berate him for either going against his word or against his home town. Whatever he decides is for his own future. We still need to understand that these are kids who are growing into young men. Sometimes we need to forget that they are stellar athletes and realize they are kids just like our own.

Perspective,
Seems like ya’ll been saying “if he sticks around at all” for about 3 seasons now. Nevermind that
1) Saban, at his own request, asked to open up contract talks before the season so that he could get an extension through 2016 on his contract.
2) Never mind that his eldest daughter just enrolled as a freshman at UA. Probably wouldn’t feel very comfortable to her if he planned on leaving in a year or 2 now would it?
3) Last year Saban committed to donate 1 million to the university to be spread out over 10 years in 1 year increments. Does that sound like someone who is leaving? Nope. Sounds to me like someone putting there money where their mouth is.
Perspective, you must be one of those folks that lacks perspective and who forgets to let the facts get in the way of his argument. But you can always hope he’ll leave can’t you?

Just pray a sincere prayer Blake and ask God to guide you in the right directions. I personally know Coach Saban and know that he’s a caring and honest man. On the other hand, I don’t know Coach Richt personally and I’m not sure about him because his program let a lot of graduating seniors down after getting another coach. The coach decided they wanted to try different options and no longer needed the recruits. I’m a former high school state track champion for Georgia and I attended GA Track camp every year and I had my mind set to be a UGA Dawg. My room was decorated red and black, when it came down to my senior year,Auburn’s(UGA’s rival) former track Coach Harvey Glance and Auburn’s and USA Olympic former Coach Mel Rosen was constantly calling and visiting me. I guess UGA thought just because I was interested in them that signing with them would be a given. It really hurted me because I had letters from the SEC colleges(LSU, ALabama, Auburn and Florida) and then I received letters from the ACC colleges(Miami,FSU,Clemson,UNC) and never received anything from Georgia until I verbally committed to another school and here I was a Georgia resident and state champion. So go with your heart and make sure you think about how Alabama crossed the line to recruit you and Georgia was in your back door and they just decided to knock on it. By the way, I signed w/ FAMU and we could use another quarterback. We would love for you to be a rattler:-).

We do not need another QB, let’s go after some defensive people that play with some intensity, or sign running back that can break a tackle, or better yet let’s get a real defensive and offensive coordinator. We have two of the top rated QB’s out of high school last year, and neither one have even been on the field. If Sims comes to UGA he will be another DJ Shockley and only play one year at best. Let’s try to recruit some players who have some heart and want to hit somebody in the mouth!!

Mark Richt is an honorable christian man, BUT how are you going to wait to recruit the top in-state talent? Why wait until they commit somewhere else before you start pursuing them hard? This is not the first time UGA failed to pull their top targets out of Florida, and then turn to in state kids as a last resort. Georgia is a talent rich football state, and Richt should focus on keeping in-state talent at home. Not wait until they commit to neighboring schools and try to talk them out of their verbal commitments, how honorable is that?
Other coaches see the potential in these kids early enough to offer them a scholarship. Does Richt really have to wait until half way through their senior season to see what he’s missing out on?

Actually I can name all of our coaches since the bear died. Gene Stallings was one. He won 70 games in 7 years during the 90s and won a national title. Have you guys had a head coach that won the national title since Dooley retired?
And do you really want to compare sec and national titles since both the bear and Dooley retired. You have 2 secs since dooley left. We shared the sec title I believe in 85 or 86, won it in 89, 92, and 99. That’s 3 or 4 sec titles. How many sec titles have you won since Dooley.
We also won our division something like 6 or 7 times since the inception of the 2 team format. Uh, how may sec titles do you have and how many times have you won your division since Dooley again?
Seems our coaching carousel did a little bit better than yours since dooley and Bryant left. 4 sec titles, 1 national title, and 6 or 7 division titles compared to 2 sec titles, 3 division titles, and no national titles.

To point out that UGA has stability at the coaching level because Goff & Donnan had 12 years between the two only means that UGA is happy with being a mediocre team in a great college football division. Goff had 3 winning seasons in 7 years at UGA. Donnan had a much better record but never won the SEC East.

Can the Dawgs please get out of their own division some time in the near future so we can meet in Atlanta in December? That will settle all this junk arguing about what happened in the past. UGA needs to focus on that.

The Sims kid has a chance to attend two very good football schools and believe me how many people wished they could have done that. Mark Richt is a wonderful chrisitan man and very good coach and runs a clean program. The only problem is will he still be the head coach next year or the following year if he does turn the program around and fire the defense cordinator. Alabama has the best coach
in the SEC and would probably get more out of Blake on the field than the dawgs staff. Saban will make his players go to class and get the ship skin in 4 years. Blake good luck were ever you go to college!! RTR

But there was that year you finished #2. Last time I checked only the #1 team got the crystal football.
But if we are concerning ourselves with titles, 1992 is earlier than 1980. Therefore, UGA needs to become relevant again as well.

Silver Britches Damnthbutcher, bigdawg,
You need a history lesson here. You talk and act like Bama has been completely non existent in the past 10 years. Uh, no. Its been the worst 10 year stretch in our history but in that time frame from 1999-2008 we won the sec in 99, had 10 win or more seasons in 2002(won our division but probation kept us from the sec), 2005(most of the season was spent in the top 5), and 2008. 99,02,05, and 08 is far below our standards but 4 double digit winning seasons in 10 years and an sec title is not bad when you consider its our worst stretch in recent memories.
Coincidentally Georgia won their division 3 times same as bama and has 2 sec titles vs 1 for bama in what virtually all georgia fans consider to be the best 10 year stretch in Georgia history.
Don’t you see the point. In your best 10 year stretch ever you are barely better than us in our worst 10 year stretch ever. Ponder that for awhile.

Blake – Go to Georgia Southern!! You could be a 4 year starter!! : )
Seriously, I grew up in the Atlanta area and went to school in Statesboro. I then lived several years after college back in the Atlanta area and in south Georgia. I have now spent my last 14 years in Birmingham. I love Birmingham and living in Alabama with one exception – I am absolutely sick of hearing about Auburn and Alabama. College football is the the talk of the town 365 days a year. It does not matter if you turn into sports radio in October, March, or July, you are still going hear almost nothing except Auburn and Alabama football. I find it very sad. Granted, Saban is a great coach and Alabama looks like they are going to remain a top 10 team for the forseeable future. They have reason to be excited in Tuscaloosa, but it is just too much. I thought Georgia was a football crazy state until I moved here. Anyway, if it were me, I would rather go somewhere with a little more balance in life.
Wherever you go Blake, I wish you well. It sounds like you have great parents and you have enjoyed a solid upbringing. I am sure you will make them proud no matter where you go.

Something doesn’t seem right about this. If the family has been “gearing up” for four years to send their son to UGA why would he verbally commit to ‘Bama?
I don’t buy the HS School and the dad saying, “…Me and his father are going to handle this… It’s a touchy situation and we want to leave Blake out of it.”
Uhh…How can you leave him out of it when he’s at the center of it? It looks like the parents might’ve been for UGA and Coach Richt, but someone dropped a bug in young Sims’ ear when no one was looking. I can see why he’d want to go to ‘Bama: a defense full of studs, Julio Jones is only a So. and Mark Ingram in the backfield. But UGA also has an upside in that after Cox leaves the QB position is wide open, AJ Green is also a So. and he’ll have a backfield full of young studs at RB. The only thing that tips the scales is defense, which as we all know is UGA’s achilles heel.
It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Crimson…..while I don’t want to get into the rumble you and Britches seem to be having, I would like to correct some information you pointed out.
Bama – since Bear retired/passed, has only won the SEC 3 times: 89, 92, and 99. 92 and 99 were outright championships as the 89 season ended with Bama, Auburn, and Tennessee tied.
Since the inception of the SEC Championship game in 1992, Bama has won 6 divisional championships – 4 outright(92,94,99,08), 1 tie(96), and 1 vacated(93). Alabama is 2-4 in 6 SECCG appearances.
*The 1985 SEC Champions were the Florida Gators but they had to vacate the championship and no new champion was crowned. The 1986 SEC Champions were LSU and it was an outright championship.
UGA – since Dooley retired has won the SEC 2 times in 02 and 05 both outright. Since the inception of the SECCG in 1992, UGA has won 5 divisional championships – 2 outight (02, 05), 3 tie (92,03,07). UGA is 2-1 is 3 SECCG appearances.
UGA-Bama has played 8 times since 1989 – which is a year after Dooley retired. The record is an even 4-4. Why do I use 1989? Because that is the first time these two teams played without either Bear or Dooley roaming the sidelines.
My only point is that both you and Silver Britches are barking up your teams being better. But remember, since both legendary coaches left; both teams have been evenly matched in terms of SEC championships, divisional championships, and head to head. If a tie breaker is needed it would Bama’s 92 MNC. In the current decade, UGA has a better resume than Bama; but the previous 10 years easily went to Bama. Both teams were evenly matched again during the 1980s.

Saban said “was not aware of this.” But after looking into it, Saban concluded that the practice is not unusual and done by over half the teams in the SEC. Even South Carolina, Saban said, has done something similar.
“I have to be very honest about this. I was not aware of this,” Saban said. “I have become aware of it since it was brought to our attention. We certainly don’t want our players to do anything that’s illegal. It is a 5-yard penalty if you do anything to enhance the spot. We’ve done some research on it, and over half the teams in the league do something with it. They put a piece there or whatever it is so the kicker knows where the ball’s going to be spotted. We even saw verification where last year South Carolina’s kicker did it. This is not something that is really unusual for people to do. It is something that shouldn’t be done because it’s against the rules. We’re actually happy that it was brought to our attention because I wasn’t aware of it. It’s something that will not do because it’s certainly not worth a 5-yard penalty.”

You should go back and look at that early blogs on this. If you will do that you will clearly see that all the smack talking was started by some dog fans taking shots at Saban and Bama. If you are a fair minded person you can see that very clearly. I actually don’t even hate the dawgs. They’re not even rivals to us.
But when they start things off with potshots at us for no discernible reason then what are we to do? Sit there and take it? No. Some of them love to dish it out but they just can’t take it and that’s what’s happening here. I’m basically getting the better of this and its something they started. I showed you how much Bama/UGA are evenly matched since then. I know you want to throw 2002 into the divisional championship column for Bama, but the fact remains that the SEC doesn’t recognize it.
Also, you talk about four 10 win seasons and 1 SEC Championship since 1999. Well the Dawgs have six 10 win seasons since then and 2 SEC Championships. Again, both schools are evenly matched.

I’ve no problem with those stats. Georgia was overall a little better between 1999-2008. My only point is that this was probably the worst 10 year stretch in Bama history and that for Georgia it was their best 10 year stretch ever. At their best ever georgia is marginally better than Bama at their worst ever. That is the point.
If Georgia fans want to say and think Georgia was better over this particular 10 year stretch I have no problem with that because based on the stats its true. Now of course if we look at success from the inception of the 2 division format or alltime success then obviously its a whole different story. But give the dawg kudos. They were better in that 10 year stretch overall.

RICHT IS WASTING HIS TIME.
And here is a list of the top complaints Spurrier had against Bama this past weekend.
***********************************************************************************************
1. Marking place kicks with tape or other artifical substance.
2. Playing music to incite crowd prior to 3rd downs.
3. Aggressive, rough tackling by Alabama players resulting in gamecock player concussion and multiple other players being bruised and sore.
4. Cold weather at Bryant Denny stadium making it harder for gamecock receivers to catch ball.
5. Giving ball too frequently to Mark Ingram resulting in overabundance of rushing yards for Alabama.
6. Lack of restroom facilities on sideline causing South Carolina Headcoach to become grouchy and constipated… even more than usual.
7. Crowd cheered louder and more selectively for Alabama than for South Carolina hurting gamecock players feelings.
8. Discourteous pattern of lights displayed on scoreboard showing Alabama with more points than South Carolina at end of game.

Hey Bama fan, didn’t we break like 3 of your QB’s in “Bryant-Denney East” a few years ago? In fact, the last 2 times we went to the place where you did not actually go to College, I seem to remember Bama losing both times…but do not worry, we have no desire to claim that place in any way…

Gary,
If we’re talking about success since the inception of the 2 division format then we both have 2 sec titles, Bama has 1 national title, Bama has won their division 6 times not including 2002, Georgia won it 3 times, Overall we have the edge due to more division crowns and the national crown. But yes Gerorgia is still a fine program and is not that far behind.

Cracker,
What on earth are you talking about? If you’re calling Athens Bryant Denny east that’s because we’ve won more games in Sanford than we’ve lost. And you must be referring to the 2003 game in which georgia won 39-18 about “beaking qbs”. One qb was injured when he landed on his shoulder. An injured Brodie Croyle came into the game and re injured an already injured shoulder. We played that game with our 3rd team qb a true freshman. So 2 qbs got hurt and one of them Croyle was already hurt and that’s why he didn’t start the game to begin with.
Georgia won 3 of the last 4 but we won 4 of the last 7 and hold a 36-25 lead.
You might also keep in mind that when Georgia won 3 times between 2002-2007 you were playing Bama teams on probation and Bama teams that had to play with 21 fewer scholarshipped players than everyone else. The numbers showed and frankly everyone was beating us since we were playing with a half a deck.
Seems you like to brag a lot about beating teams that were down 21 schollies and not playing with a full complement. As you found out last year beating a Bama team that is near full strength is a whole different task now isn’t it?
Even in the blackout game we only had 9 seniors on that team because it was the last recruiting class that was devastated.

We can talk about the present and future but then you bring up the Utah game which is PAST. But oh well. I’ll address it anyway. Utah finished as the nation’s only unbeaten team and no. 2 in the country. Sorry but we lost to a damn good football team.
You guys lost this year to an Okay state team that lost to Houston the very next week. And BTW, for the record Okay state has never even won their division and I don’t even know that they’ve ever finished better than 3rd. They are usually 4th in that division behind Texas, OU, and TT.
Probation- I was hoping you would bring that up. Might want to check your facts there buddy. Georgia is tied with Auburn and several other schools for the 3rd most major infractions cases with 6 each. Bama has had 3 major infractions cases. Looks like you do lead us in something after all. This is something that you can google and look up at the NCAA.

I already awarded the dawg fans the trophy for being better than us in the 2000s. I don’t have a problem with that. I wouldn’t give them the 2nd best trophy though. That goes to LSU which won 2 bcs titles in the 2000s. Florida as we all agree has clearly been the best.
As I stated earlier I really have no problem with the dawgs at all. Just when they start in with snipes at Bama and Saban, etc which they always seem to do. I am going to respond and not take that crap.

In all honesty I really don’t care about who has the winning record vs who and all that. Its all ancient history. I only get started on that crap when dawg fans start bringing up all this crap about where were you guys in the early 2000s? Its ancient history and UGA’S SEC TITLE 2002 which was 7 years ago has no more bearing on 2009 than BAMA’S NAT’L TITLE IN 1992 does. That’s all.

WHY oh WHY do you Techies have to get on the UGA blog and complain about UGA, their fans, and shout insults like crybabies?
The reason you really come here and insult and things is because you are JEALOUS!
Tech is 6-1 and UGA is 4-3 and STILL UGA gets all of the attention, all the headlines and people CARE!
NOBODY CARES ABOUT TECH and that kills you techies
Tech will never be significant in Georgia as long as the Dawgs are playing football and you Techies can’t handle it.
You wish you were like UGA and since you are not, you have to lash out, insult, call dawg fans names, and try to tear down our team.
Get over it. Go to your blog and try to enjoy your success while it lasts…..you will never matter as much as the Dawgs and you will never understand what it means to have a tradition so worthy of loyality and envy!

Bama fans are so arrogant, yet so retarded. The game has passed Richt by? If i’m not mistaken UGA was preseason #1 in both polls last year, and Florida was preseason #1 in both polls this preseason. Where was the mighty Tide? Richt has finished in the top 10 in 6 of the last 7 years, where has the mighty Tide finished the last 7 years? The mighty Gators haven’t done that either. As a matter of fact, Meyer has lost 4 games twice since he has been at Fl. So UGA is having a down year, it happens to every program, even Florida. Meyer lost 9 starters and Chris Leak after winning the national championship, and he had to rebuild the next year, and Florida lost 4 games. UGA losses 2 of the top 12 players in the nfl draft, as well as a top receiver that is leading the Cleveland Browns in receiving, and they are paying for it, but to say Richt has been passed by Saban is a joke. Besides, the only thing Bama has passed UGA in is losing to a middle of the pack team in a BCS bowl game. Bama beat UGA last year, get over it, Bama was ahead 31-0 at the half, get over it, UGA was up 37-0 on Bama at the half in 2003, and UGA had beaten the Mighty Tide 3 straight games under Richt. Oh by the way, Richt beat Saban 2 years ago in Alabama, and he has beaten them the last 2 times they played in Al. Richt has also beaten Saban 2 of the last 3 times their teams have played. That includes putting 45 on him while he was at LSU. Stop showing your arrogance and your ignorance. Richt has a better winning % than Saban. Enough said

Crimson, please go up and look at my previous posts. I laid it out nicely about how evenly matched the UGA/Bama programs have been since 1989. Again I use that season simply because it was the beginning of the post Bear/Dooley era in the SEC.
Again……
Since the inception of the SEC Championship game in 1992, Bama has won 6 divisional championships – 4 outright(92,94,99,08), 1 tie(96), and 1 vacated(93). Alabama is 2-4 in 6 SECCG appearances.
Since both legendary coaches left; both teams have been evenly matched in terms of SEC championships, divisional championships, and head to head. If a tie breaker is needed it would Bama’s 92 MNC. In the current decade, UGA has a better resume than Bama; but the previous 10 years easily went to Bama. Both teams were evenly matched again during the 1980s.
Also I have to disagree that the last 10 years have been the best 10 year run at UGA. The 1940-1949 and 1975-1985 years were much more productive in terms of wins and Championships. 2002-2005 was not even the best 4 year period in UGA history. That has to go to the 1980-1983 teams.

Back to the story. CMR is a great guy. He’s a wonderful Christian of highest values and esteem. Families of recruits obviously hold that in high regard. But what this story tells me is this: If you’re not winning, recruit families don’t care. This kid is going to Alabama. The dad says he’ll give CMR a respectful visit, but in reality that is not what he thinks is best for his kid. As much as I love UGA and CMR, winning games means more than anything in the recruiting race. This story shows it.

I think this year has been a wake up call for CMR. I think your going to see a shift to a more high scoring and more explosive offense than in the past when we tried to grind it out in a typical SEC offensive game plan. It would not suprise me to see him go back to his Miami and Florida State roots and become more of a aerial attack on offense. Most people wondered when he first came to UGA why he didnt bring a more high profile offense to Georgia back then. Most people wanted that.. Some excitement back in Athens. When you are having problems in anything in life you do, you always gravitate back to what you know has worked well in your life. Just my opinion. Maybe this year has made him realize you must always change and adapt to stay ahead.

As an African-American student, I have attended the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia. I have met Mark Richt and what I like about him the most is that he is really a nice guy. But, I really love the University of Alabama. One reason why I love Alabama so much is because it has a large African American population, so I feel very comfortable at Alabama. It is like home to me. However, both schools are excellent universiities with dynamic academic programs. When you decide on which school, go where you feel the most comfortable. Also consider the following things: how soon will you be able to play, look at the depth chart. God forbid, but if you got hurt and could not play which school would you be happiest at. Both schools need a quarterback. Georgia’s program will have to make changes if they are to become a competitive force. How will those changes affect you? The bottom line is which school will be the best fit for you. We would love to have you at the University of Alabama, but think about it. Do not let anyone pressure you because you must make the choice for yourself. Also, consider your major carefully. Obtain a degree that you will find employment in rather quickly, especially, if that NFL gig doesn’t work out for you. Ask Coach Richt why he waited so late to recruit you. At least you know that Alabama chose you when Georgia did not. Also, call the coach at Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia and discuss the situation that occurred at his school with recruiters from the University of Georgia. Just think very carefully and ask questions.
If you get a chance, go to youtube and check out the BAMA Anthem by the 63 boyz – you will love it.

Cap it off with “next year” will always be the year they get a kid brother for that lonely National Championship trophy . Tell him they “forgot” to recruit him (and several other Georgia kids ) or even give him a token offer until all the out of state hotshots fell through because Richt was busy “praying” about it .
I am sure everything will be fine and Blake will be happy redshirting during Richt’s final season at Georgia . It is always fun trying to piece together a future in the NFL from the deck of a sinking ship ….

Actually two of Bama’s temp coaches , Dubose and Shula both beat Florida in the last decade when Bama has been at it’s worst in 50 years .
If Mike Shula can get it done on his way out the door to make way for Saban and Dumbose could do it TWICE in ONE SEASON before that to send “Superior” packing for the NFL , I am not that worried that a Saban lead program will in fact be able to make an outright habit out of it .

Man some of ya’ll need to get off the blog, CMR isn’t on the hot seat, this is one year, one year! Bulldawg nation stop losing focus, we’ll beat Ga Tech because we expect to, we’ll beat UF because if Arkansas Defense can hold them anybody’s can, Kentucky? forget about it. Auburn? They are what we thought they where. To the Sim’s kid, Nick’s gonna get paid alot of money whether you come or not, Alabama is going to be a top program with or without you, but if you grew up a Dawg all your life, and this is your life, follow your dreams. YOUR DREAMS!!!!

ALABAMA: Without it, you wouldn’t be able to locate Georgia on a map. I’ll take a bet from any UGA fan that Richt fires his staff to try to save his a$$, ala Tuberville. You got stomped by Kiffin. Seriously. Do you really want to talk about Bama? You’re like the little kid that got pegged in the face in dodgeball. You’ve lost your season, so now all you do is sit on the sidelines and whine. As long as Bama is on top, UGA will not see another SEC championship. You can hang up all BCS NC hopes as well. When UGA finally does something, or better yet, wins a game, then you can talk. Until then, sit on the sidelines and watch the big boys play. ROLL TIDE ROLL! Handing out black eyes during the blackout.

The young man jumped the gun without consulting with his parents, I’m sure Saban didn’t say did you check with your parents first? Truth is most coaches are counting on wowing these kids over by being the 1st team to offer. Don’t think Saban hasn’t ever tried to woo a young man away from his 1st impetuous choice. It happens every day. I think a 17 -18 year old kid deserves the right to change his mind if he so chooses without it meaning he is going to be morally bankrupt the rest of his life. It’s just football, get over it.

“As long as Bama is on top” On top of what? The SEC West?
Last time I checked, 1999 was still the last time Alabama won an SEC Championship. You are #2 right now, but still have to play games and you haven’t quite wrapped up the SEC West just yet.

Same thing Richt pulled with Michael Bowman last year . Wouldn’t even ask him out on a date until AFTER the kid committed to Bama , tore it up on the fieldhis senior year and the Dawgs lost out on other prospects .
Of course the story from Dawg fans (who had previously dragged the kid through the mud for committing to Bama when Georgia wouldnt even give him the time of day ) was Richt just “wanted to pray about it”

Just like I posted for JaWuan James….Mr. Sims, I wish you well wherever you go, just be aware that if you go to UGA, the coach that recruited you probably won’t be the one to coach you (all 4 years). RTR

I want to go to UGA and be a LOSER that can cry about the REFS stealing wins from my team. I would hate to go to BAMA and win just because the refs love our team. Boy, that SEC Championship Ring will just not feel the same.

u bammers are all the same. you wont hesitate to let everyone know about your latest “5 star” commit, however, if they have a change of heart, the rationalizing begins. “he saw the writing on the wall, he wasnt gonna play” “i heard he is to dumb to get into school” “we didnt want him anyway” you sound like spoiled 4 yr olds.some of you are the reason im beginning to have a disdain for cfb. many of you have no affiliation to the school. you live and die by wins and losses. you couldnt spell tuscaloosa if given the vowels, nor find it on a map. you would concede the death of a loved one for a natl. champ. get a grip! its just freakin football! those 18 yr old kids dont give a damn what you think! pull your boxers back up and log off the recruiting websites for 5 minutes and youll see another world outside.

“some of you are the reason im beginning to have a disdain for cfb.”
Rooting for the Barn the “disdain” in you is being created by the current state of your program … not other fans . Don’t worry … I am sure you can find a bandwagon somewhere to ride for a season or two ….
Maybe you can find a team on one of those soccer mom leagues where they don’t keep score and no one get’s their feelings hurt . It could be a win-win . They get one fan who doesn’t drive a mini-van and you can cheer for a program no one will crack on you about when your raggedy “team” falls apart like a cheap suit …

BamaCLT,
The bottom line is that Georgia is a greater state than Alabama. You sound like someone with a very large chip on his/her shoulder. Do not take offense when the head coach at UGA tries to convince someone from a Georgia high-school to play at UGA. So what if the kid verbally committed to an out-of-state school early. CMR has a right to talk to the kid, and convince him otherwise.
If you live in Georgia, I would prefer for you to go back to Alabama. While the Auburn fans are nearly as bad as you all, I think I preferred things better when they owned your butts for 6 straight years. I predict Saban will never win a championship for Alabama, (and that’s SEC championship!).

Crimson,
I’m also a New Yorker, born and raised in Yonkers, and trust me Alabama is the redneck pit of america. Trust me. I know. Georgia is the heart of the south, one thing my friends back home claim that georgia is diverse…Atlanta is the melting pot, there is a reason why Bama grads head East after graduating, b/c a truck driving degree isn’t offered. Alabama is a dump, everytime I drive threw I stop by to make fun of the locals…you should try it, b/c these characters are straight out of Jeff Foxworthy jokes. Where were these Bama fans at the past 10-15 years? Answer that

“Where were these Bama fans at the past 10-15 years? Answer that”
LOL … if you hadn’t spent so many years with your head up your “Yonk”-hole you would have known that Tide fans have never “went” anymore bub . ONE of the things our “dearest” rivals ALWAYS accused Bama fans of during some of the lean years was our “arrogance”.
The fact that we never rolled up into a little whimpering ball like some of the lesser fans bases who disappear when their teams return to their historical norms (*cough*Auburn*Auburn*) has ALWAYS set us apart . IF you would have had a REAL upbringing you would have known that lol
Two more things skippy .
One : the Atlanta area is like Orlando , Fla . It is populated by more refugee Yankees fleeing the craphole states they ruined up north than Southerners . You “feel at home” amongst so many of your kin for that very reason .
Two : Upstate New York is the ONLY place on planet Earth where I have ever seen a figure eight race course where chowderheads raced junk cars around the track while pulling worn out travel trailers trying to wreck into each other on purpose at the intersection . I also watched the ONLY demolition derby featuring combine harvesters I have ever heard of being staged in my life . Both occurring in the state of New York . The only difference in the caliber of the upstate New York rednecks and the ones from the cesspool you were raised in, is the ones further north at least know how to hunt ….
But please … do tell us some more about your fine aristocratic “blue blood” upbringing in Yonkers roflmao
Your stories of “driving threw Alabama” ( the word is spelled THROUGH you pseudo-intellectual dim wit ) probably play well with people who have rarely traveled anywhere or experienced anything themselves . Just remember … we all weren’t “born and raised in Yonkers” LOL

hey, crimson crust. i never alluded to any affiliation with any particular university. your presumption that im some “bitter barner is inaccurate. i have been to the barn on several occassions. beautiful place, friendly people with lots of class. my wife has a mini van and my daughter plays soccer.im comfortable with who i am. im sorry that you live so vicariously through your team. remember not to slap ur b*tch or your snot noses when the tide doesnt roll. i know of a few recruiting web sites that are free and uncensored. you could really spank it to those. of course, people may begin to speak negatively about someone who has such a deep interest in 18 year old boys. (there are several online dictionary sites if you didnt fully understand some of my grammar)
