Perkins, other Georgia Tech commitments looking good
12:05 pm October 12, 2009, by Chip Towers
It was a big weekend for Georgia Tech with its first-ever win over Florida State in Tallahassee and it was a big weekend for future Yellow Jackets as several commitments had standout performances this past Friday night.
Collins Hill running back Charles Perkins kept his stranglehold on the Gwinnett County rushing lead with 130 yards and 3 TDs in a win over Duluth. Perkins, who was pulled from the game midway through the second quarter, has 1,133 yards and 12 TDs in six games this season.
Quarterback/defensive back Synjyn Days continues his good work for Hillgrove High as he rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on nine carries and was 6-of-17 passing for 107 yards and 2 TDs. Days was at the controls of an offense that rolled up 456 yards.
Jefferson County’s B.J. Bostic is similar to Days in that he’s an athletic prospect that plays quarterback on offense and defensive back on defense. He scored touchdowns rushing, passing and on a kickoff return by halftime of a blowout win over East Laurens.
Ryan Ayers‘ South Paulding team is struggling some this season but he keeps having an impact on games. Two weeks after grabbing a pick-six in a loss to Hillgrove Ayers had a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown in a loss to Hiram.
Loganville tackle Morgan Bailey helped pave the way for tailback Storm Johnson to gain 175 yards and score three touchdowns in a win over Madison County.
Here are some of the other top performances by top prospects in the state this past weekend (in alphabetical order). Let me know if I’ve overlooked anybody:
- RB Ralph David Abernathy IV, Westminster: The grandson of the late civil-rights leader scored on a 48-yard pass and 15-yard run and blocked a kick in a 29-6 victory over Avondale.
- TB Mack Brown, M.L. King: The Florida commitment and AJC Super 11 selection returned from a hamstring injury to rush for 92 yards on 14 carries and scored the go-ahead TD on a 30-yard run in the second half against Newton.

- QB Christian Davila, Winder-Barrow: Passed for 305 of his 386 yards and four of his five TDs in the first half of a 48-41 win over Monroe Area.
- WR Geremy Davis, Norcross: The 6-2, 192-pound senior had TD catches of 19, 29 and 40 yards.
- DE Xzavier Dickson, Griffin: A top D-line prospect for 2011, Dickson dominated the line of scrimmage and had two sacks in a big win over region rival North Clayton.
- RB Greg Franklin, Marietta: Rushed for 223 yards and 3 TDs in a 27-14 win over South Cobb.

Even though his team is 1-6, Denzel McCoy from Northview High School continues to excell on the defensive line. I’ve had the opportunity to watch all of his games except one this season. This past Friday vs. Norcross he racked up 5 tfl’s and a total of 12 tackles just from what I could see from the stands.

You left out RB/DB Jon lee from Apalachee. If Davila is a top prospect on a horrible team, then Lee, who has offers from Air Force and Navy and would be a good fit for CPJ at Tech and whose team is 6-0, needs some pub here. He had a light night against Habersham on Friday but his teammates came up big for him as the Raiders sought to take him out of the equation.

Perkins is a very good RB…cant wait till he gets to the flats. PJ knows what he needs and who will fit his system better than rivals, scout or ESPN. In CPJ we trust.

The Virginia game is at noon? I thought that was the dogs time slot, lol. I wouldn’t say that but since this is an article about Tech, I know they aren’t obsessed with us, so they won’t ever see this.

Tay Willis, a senior RB at East Coweta, rushed 10 times for 155 yds. and 2 touchdowns in the Indian’s 38-6 win over Lovejoy Friday. That was his sixth straight 100-yard plus rushing game – including a 256 outburst against Pebblebrook in game 3. On the season, Willis has rushed 110 times for 991 yds. and 14 touchdowns for the 4-2 (3-2 in Region 4-AAAAA)Indians.

Brent, why don’t you think before you make stupid comments? We don’t need idiotic fans like you trying to prop ourselves up by insulting others. In case you didn’t know it, the Bulldogs have more than enough problems of our own. Jeez, grow up.

Tay Willis rushed for 365+ yards, had 5 touchdowns, and all of this was on 16 carries. He is the truth, and a lie ain’t in that LOL!! If he hasn’t been noticed somebody has been slippin and sleepin. The boy is talented. It’s raw, unedited talent.
