With all these D-1 players to pick from, I wonder why Georgia does’nt have more SEC championships? And why do our players at Georgua play so sloppy & undisciplined?? And don’t tell me it’s because of the recruits not panning out, because if that was the cause, who chose thoes recruits in the first place?? (a clue) The answer is the same for all 3 glaring problems.
At least Ga. Tech is heading in the right direction.

Howabout a win:

I agree that Florida has 2 ACC schools and an SEC school, but lots of Georgia athletes also go to ACC schools as well: Georgia Tech plus Clemson, FSU and the North Carolina schools. I am certain that Georgia produces more players per capita than Florida. As far as Alabama goes, most Alabama kids go to SEC schools. Alabama and Georgia probably produce the same amount of BCS conference football players per capita, although Alabama likely produces more major college players overall because of the presence of two Sun Belt schools (Troy and UAB) in your state as compared to none for Georgia (although Georgia State is likely to join the Sun Belt within 10 years).

SuperB that is not entirely accurate. There are oodles of players that will not make it into UGA that can make it in other places due to less stringent entrance and character requirements.

UHH, with all that Georgia talent available to come to Georgia how come Georgia is the 5th best team in the conference with 5 losses over their last 17 games. I guess the best of those 84 Florida kids sign up with Urban Meyer and the best of the Georgia kids go somewhere else. Or maybe Georgia does not coach them up like they do at Florida.

Well DUH – Big surpize on “Georgia producing the most SEC players” (NOT) – After all – GA (excluding the state of FL) has a much greater population than the rest of the SE. So no surprise there. And the State of FL has to share players b/t FL, FSU, and Miami; among other schools. So I get sick and tired when I read about and hear talk about all the players from GA on other teams – especially Auburn – Well stupos – GA has close to 3 times the population as AL (as well as SC). Let’s use a little logic here.

Chip, Population is a factor when you compare southern states to Ga. but take a state such as Ohio with comparable numbers, the Peach state produces many more athletes across a variety of sports. And yes I was lucky to grow up in this state where we live for sports and competition, playing all the above mentioned sports myself.

mr me: the key for Georgia being a great state for athletes in mainly one thing — population. There were 9.6 million Georgians in 2008, 5.4 million in Atlanta. . . . But it helps that the state’s citizens take sports seriously.

What light? The one where they weren’t recruited by Georgia? Dont get me wrong they ended up being great players but UGA only has so many scholly’s. I can assure you that the majority of recruits will choose Ga over south carolina any day.

Anyways back to the topic at hand. Georgia is one of the best states for all athletic talent. It gets the publicity for football but baseball, basketball and tennis all have great talent.
