It seems that my little report on five-star recruit Christian Green created a bit of controversy down in his hometown of Tampa.
If you recall, I wrote about this dynamic 6-2, 195-pound quarterback/wide receiver in advance of his trip to Athens this past weekend for an official visit to the University of Georgia. In that report I quoted Tampa Catholic coach Bob Henriquez talking about all the connections that Green had with the Bulldogs, namely that his older cousin E.G. Green played wideout under coach Mark Richt while Richt was at Florida State and that Green was buddies with fellow Tampa natives Aaron Murray and Orson Charles, who played at rival Plant High and now play for Georgia.
Tampa Catholic coach Bob Henriquez made a quip about Murray helping recruit Green for the Bulldogs. “Yeah, Aaron Murray’s been working on him,” Henriquez said with a laugh. “Aaron tried to recruit him away from Tampa Catholic over to Plant when he was over there, too. So I guess he’s recruiting him again.”
Well, apparently that comment created a firestorm down in Tampa. TampaBay.com wrote a whole story about it. They cited Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) rules, which state that “anyone affliated with a football program – including a player — trying to lure another player to a school is a recruiting violation.”
Henriquez shrugged it off in the TampaBay.com article. “It was just a kind of off-the-cuff statement,” he said. “They’re good friends. They know each other well. It was kind of just a running joke.” And he said basically the same thing to me when I called him Monday night to find out what all the fuss was about. “It was said in jest,” he said. “It’s no big deal. Don’t worry about it.”
Anyway, I’ve tried and tried to get us an update from Christian Green about his actual visit to UGA. But for whatever reason I just can’t get the kid to call me back. His voicemail is full and he hasn’t answered texts. Maybe he’s upset over the Murray quip, though Henriquez doubted as much.
The Orlando Sentinel’s Chris Harry filed a report about Green’s trip to Athens but it quoted only Christian’s father, Hiram Green. Mr Green said only, “He has the utmost respect for the Georgia program. And all the respect in the world for Coach Richt.”
As far as I can tell, Nick Valentino of UGAsports.com has been the only one to track down Green about his Georgia visit so far. In the subscription-only report, Green said, “I really enjoyed it. It went really well. Coach Richt, [receivers] Coach [Tony] Ball and pretty much all the coaching staff did something to make me feel comfortable. It was a good experience for me.” It also quoted Green as saying Murray was indeed recruiting him again.
“Yeah, he was trying to get me to come up there to Georgia, and I’m hoping we can play together someday,” Green said. “But I got to make my own decision.”

All I want for Christmas is new coordinators that are able to extract the talent given and maximize it. Sometimes I get the feeling if Tebow had hypothetically came to UGA that he woulda sucked and if Stafford would of went to Oklahoma or Texas that he would of done way better and had passed for way more than 25 tds.
I want a smash mouth defense and a offense that can light up a score board. And for God’s sake quit the directional kicking Richt!

Where is naganole????? He seems to know everything that Green is thinking. Wasn’t he the one saying that UGA runs the pro style offense because they don’t have the talent to run the wide open attack FSU runs? I guess USF with their 2nd string QB has more talent than anyone.

Is it really any surprise that Jeff Schultz said he would pick Tech over UGA. He knows very well that there are more UGA bloggers than Tech has, just as there are more UGA fans and attendees at games. He said that to rile up the Bulldog nation, and it looks like he’s succeded. Maybe we should just pay less attention when he says something negative about UGA. It’s not like he has a very high IQ. If he had a high IQ, he’d be doing something with his life.

George P, I can’t wait to hear what the NCAA has to say about a Florida high school recruiting violation. I hope it was a toll free call.
Also, I’m sure that young Mr. Green feels “pestered” by Aaron Murray. That’s why he said….and I’m quoting here, “Yeah, he was trying to get me to come up there to Georgia, and I’m hoping we can play together someday.”
It sounds like the young man is really being bothered by Aaron.

To the tech poster (Burdell) saying everyone knows UGA cheats..are you just stupid? They are talking about Murray trying to recruit him to his HIGHSCHOOL being a possible violation…not Murray trying to recruit him now at UGA. I used this….Ascertain what type of rule violation occurred. The first type is a major violation, which is a violation that gives a member institution an extensive recruiting or competitive advantage. The other type is the secondary violation, which is a rules violation that gives a member institution a limited recruiting or competitive advantage.I would call being pestered by Bulldog players a competitive advantage over other schools.

Same Chip Towers. Anything to harm UGA regardless of your assignment by your “newspaper.”
Christian Green obviously has good sense to not acknowledge your text messages or return your calls. If all high school recruits had that much sense then you might have to go out and get a job.
I was hoping when you were taken off the UGA beat that we got rid of you. But it seems you are a pathetic one trick poney trying to hurt UGA any way that you can.

I don’t cover UGA, Pitbull, and I love you too. . . .
The violations to which we refer here, George P Burdell, are Florida High School Athletic Assoc. violations, not NCAA violations. The assertion was Murray tried to recruit Green to Plant High, not UGA. And when a kid is on an official visit, you better believe that the players are going to try to recruit him there.

Christian Geen will be good but he will be a project because he will have to change positions from QB to WR or Safety. This means a redshirt year. As soon as I read it I knew Coach Bob would regret it…I bet Coach Weiner was on the phone and steaming…why would a coach make such a remark even in jest, heck he should know more than anybody about having the authorities breathing down his neck…TC was a powerhouse at one time…some players who graduated were Darrell Jackson, Kenny Kelly, Jimmy Giles, Qunicy Carter, they had some good teams…when he came back to TC there was a group of freshman who played together all 4 years, they wound up w/ 2 maybe 3 all-state, or honorable mention player at a very small HS…this group of freshman were State runner-up to powerhouse Madison County and just missed going back again last year…BTW, Coach Bob in his “time-out” from TC was at Jefferson HS and was a coach for the Gamecocks, Stephen Garcia…he’s a good coach, but very football focused and one arrogant s.o.b….BTW again, Green probably did want to go to Plant w/ Murray, but his father wanted the structure that Tampa Catholic provided…he has a brother who graduated last year and was a DE…don’t know what happened to him, maybe he went to a JC to see where Christian winds up…both boys are quiet and respectful, nice family
