Prospects on parade in tonight’s high school games

It’s Friday and that means it’s almost time for “Friday Night Lights.”

A lot of good games are on tap tonight as far as getting a look at the best prospects in the city and state. Following are some of the better ones:

  • Banneker vs. North Clayton: Banneker has a couple of Auburn commitments in LB Shaun Kitchens and S Demetruce McNeal and a couple of other good prospects like wide receicvers Tres Houston and DeMarco McNeal. North Clayton features RB/LB Clarence Jackson, who has committed to Ole Miss, and OL Torian Box, an NC State commit.
  • Peachtree Ridge at Lowndes: The Vikings have three players that are already D1 commits: LB Telvin Smith (FSU), OT Ed Christian (FSU), Khary Franklin (Troy). Peachtree Ridge is led by WR Bradley Roby (Vanderbilt), RB Brandon Stanley (uncommitted) and junior linebackers Tanner and Tyler Botts.
  • Warner Robins at Grayson: This was a game I intended to be at tonight before a conflict came up that will prevent me from getting there. I’m eager to get a live look at the Rams’ 5-foot-4 running back Ean Pemberton. They also have a Tech commitment in defensive lineman Shawn Green and a one big load of linebacker in Terry Williams (6-0, 250), who remains uncommitted. Warner Robins is the home of DT Jeffrey Whitaker, one of the top uncommitted prospects in the state.
  • Hillgrove at Rome: Recent Georgia Tech commitment and two-way player Synjyn Days played barely two quarters in a lop-sided win last week, all at quarterback. But he’ll likely play the whole game on both sides of the ball in this contest, won 21-7 by Rome last year.

I’m sure there are lot of other great prospect matchups out there. Let us all know who and where they are.

Chip,

Are you covering High School Athletics or Recruiting or Both? What is your current job description?

Charles Perkins and Collins Hill welcome Dacula tonight. Perkins (Tech commitment) ran for 300+ vs Parkview last week.

To answer the question, Chip is doing everything he can to save his job. No matter if it’s hs football, recruiting, reporting on Lane Kiffin, UGA blog, or mowing his supervisors lawn, to getting his boss’ secretary her coffee.

Rick: I am covering “College Recruiting.” It just so happens that most of that involves high school players. . . .

RonnieGarDner: I’m certainly not trying to “save” my job. But like I think most people feel who are enduring this vicious economy, I am quite thankful to have one and pray for those who don’t.

I don’t know where Collins Hill got that Perkins ran for 300+ last week @ Parkview. I was at the game and he DID have 267…..and only scored once??? How does that happen? In any event, he’s a great back, but he didn’t break 300 last week.

Chip,

Now that wasn’t to professional on what you said to Rick. You didn’t have to say it that way.

Jacket,

It was reported everywhere that Perkins had 302 yards. I saw it in at least three different publications. And since you were at the game, you should know how he only scored once. You also must be one heck of a fan if you can count exactly how many yards he had while watching the game.

Rick how can Chip cover recruiting without reporting on High School players? Stupid post indeed.

Techfan you are correct that Perkins is credited with 302 yards last week. Jacket is doing that modern math. What other statistics did he keep up with?

Jacket: According to Collins Hill coach Billy Wells, after reviewing the game tape, Perkins had 302 yards on 33 carries. Those are the official stats.

It would be great if the AJC would post what local highschool games are going to be broadcast, on the radio. I live out here in CA and I enjoy listening to games of the UGA recruits on the net, when I can.

JBTs,

I enjoyed Chip’s articles last year, I just did not know that he was covering College recruiting; it was an assumption. But thanks for the encouragement.

I really enjoy your articles Chip. Im glad you arent letting these negative comments get to you. I was wondering if you could get the scoop on Mceacherns RB who had four touchdowns in the Dome two weeks ago. Also could you try to do some coverage on Mceachern..Im guessing you will if they win tonight.
Thanks,

Jacket,

Perkins had 302 yards in the first game of the season and 267 in week 2.

Sure looks like rivals and scout have their 3 star ranking spot on.

What a joke
