Hey Chip...Lakeside is also a very young team. Despite the two losses to South West Dekalb and Tucker, they started the season better than they had last year. They are 2-2 right now but expect that record to improve. They have a good future ahead of them with junio players like: RB/LB-Marc Kananda, LB-Quintarius Figures, DE/OL-Quentin Turner, ATH-Brasdley Dennis, WR/CB-Angelo Cauley, CB-Langston Williams, OL-Giovanni Ventura and more; don't be surprise when this young team makes it to the playoffs next year.

No problem Chip, most of them are Sopohomores and Juniors, However look out for Seniors Chris Gilzeane, D'Antonio Murray and super sized lineman Derek Sibley. The juniors who should be D'1 prospects are QB Jhyree Harris, RB Mike Gilbert, WR Octavious Andrews

uh Marist is in Dekalb County, in the same region as Tucker no less, which means rg 6-AAAA has won the last 2 championships.
BTW - -go ask Coach Ballard of P'chtree Rdg about the Dekalb talent. he was at Tucker before P'chtree Rdg. YOU ARE CRAZY to think any of the schools you've named can hang week in week out with -SWD, Tucker, MLK, Chamblee, St.Pius, Dunwoody,or even Miller Grove. And please, don't even start talking hoops

Aaron Wimberly o/ So.Gwn, Raymond Sanders o/ Stphnsn, and Devin Scott o/ Tucker all played their youth football a TUCKER FOOTBALL LEAGUE. Devin should have a great season this year and will open the eyes of colleges by mid season.

IF the best ball is played in GWINNETTI. I don't see a Gwinnetti school trying to play teams from the Dekalb. The coaches from Gwinnetti recruits in the Dekalb County.Where do you think CALEB KING,TREY THOMPKINS, BRAD LESTER,ALADE AMINU,AND SO ON came from DEKALB COUNTY.Why not have The 1st Annual All Dekalb Team against All Gwinnetti Team in a ALLSTAR GAME. Call RON SEBREE of DEKALB COUNTY to see can we make this happen Jan.2010

How is Perkins ranked behind two Dekalb County backs? We all know the better football is played in the largest county in Georgia (Gwinnett). Outside of Tucker who in Dekalb has won a state title in the last ten years. Two teams in Collins Hills 5A region are ranked in the top 3 in the state. If you are the # 1 and #2 backs in the state how do you only amass 66 yards and 75yards. You can't say the Defense was to tough. If thats the case what are these two Dekalb County backs gonna do against tough SEC defenses every week????

What Rogers DID well was BLOCK...he is a complete player, and is very good. He only had the one penalty. It wasnt that bad. The Kick return was for a TD.

Carson Barnett (Junior - 2011) is one of the top quarterbacks in Georgia / Southeast. He was selected to the Elite 11 in Athens, FBU Atlanta, TOP GUN FBU in Orlando and was chosen to attend OD All American Bowl camp in Myrtle Beach this summer. Carson attended UGA, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Duke and had to decline FSU due to a TEAM Function. This quarterback will be one to watch. Landmark runs the Zone Offense much like the Atlanta Falcons. Landmark football is back with this QB and a vast number of weapons in the backfield and out on the edge. Single A Football may be small to some....but it is BIG on Friday nights....Hey Chip come over to Fairburn this season.

Chip, you might want to look at the C.S.R.A. From Lincoln, Washingon-Wilkes, Mcduffie, Richomond, Burke, Jenkins, Washington, Greene, & Warren Counties these small counties has a Bunch of talent and good old football tradition that doesn't receive it do. "I'm sure there are alot more, but I recall one year when AAAA Clarke-Central, AA Washington-Wilkes, A Lincoln and AAA McDuffie all were playing for the State Championship the same year. This is before 5A." A lot of talent.

Of course The Stephenson was as expected hands down. JV really got a chance to work out and it was still an egg.

Yes, Stephenson defense look good and the offense had 2 touchdown called back . Plus STEPHENSON was in the slaughter rule midway in the 3rd quarter.Overall totally mismatch for McNAIR.

This kid Brad Roby from PTree Ridge (Vanderbilt) had a TD and 2 INT on defense. He also had a 45 yard kickoff run. Got this information from articles on GDP and AJC.

Their RB, Chris Sawdney, had 93 yards rushing and 3 TD.

to be fair, regarding the unsportsmanlike penalties on Rogers, two came on his first touchdown, an excessive celebration, which would technically be on his teammates as well, and taunting, for removing his helmet. The second was just excessive celebration. Obviously I wasn't there and heard about it all second hand but there was some videotape of it on http://georgia.scout.com and it didn't really look that bad.

Samford & Sons Drive:

You are right... GT never throws the ball. That is why they took a 4 star recruit away from UGA last year and had a stable of young recievers coming up, including one transfering in from Alabama.

And who needs to throw when you can run up 409 yards on the ground against the preseason #1 team in the nation.

I think people are underestimating MLK by calling the win over SWD an upset. MLK has more than just Mack Brown and it showed on Friday. It was unfortunate that the SWD qb got hurt but that can't take away from a great defensive effort by MLK. Also, I think #83 for MLK did an outstanding job on SWD's DE #15. Don't sleep on MLK.

Don't believe Rogers would still be in the game after his second unsportsmanlike. Don't think we have the whole story yet. On the flip side, after the first one, I don't believe most players would have removed their cover!!!

Kendrum Malcolme proved himself to be a better back Friday night, but admittedly, the season is more than one game. MLK's QB did some good things, like keeping his eyes open while scrambling for his life. I saw that game from start to finish and Stripling only had one sack. He did have quite a few hurries. They must have doubled him all night because we didn't hear his name much at all. However, I have to believe he had something to do with all those holding penalties MLK had. SWD defensive lineman Isiah Cook should be mentioned also.

I was there and only one penalty was on him. There were actually 2 penalties on the touchdown one was 40 yds from him but they were both unsportsmanlike just from different players!

Chip,

CMR should take a look at RB Terrence Gore of Jones County High School. In Jones County's win over Mitchell County on Friday night, Terrence had ~110 yards on maybe 10 carries and 2 touchdowns with one of these coming from about 40 yards out. Anyway, Terrence has Deion Sanders type speed and I am not sure if Georgia is on to him. There is a good chance that Terrence will be drafted early in baseball because of his speed but you never know. Please tell CMR about this kid. He is very explosive and fun to watch. Maybe Georgia can offer him in baseball and football.

Da'Rick Rogers is just like any other high school superstar. The man running around with boys and gets caught up in it. Those refs were probably flag happy knowing he was a superstar. Any other players would probably have received nothing. Tech fans don't kid yourself in thinking that Paul Johnson wouldn't have him in Atlanta because we all know he would lay out the red carpet for him. GO DAWGS!

Chip: Don't forget our small schools. Remember that Single A produce Herschel Walker (Johnson County), a Heisman winner, Garrison Hearst (Lincoln County), a Second in Heisman vote, Champ and Boss Bailey (Charlton County; I think that Charlton is now AA), just to name a few. Brookstone, ranked 6th in Single A, hosted Landmark Christian of Fairburn. Despite an early 62 yard TD hook-up between Brookstone QB Jake Howard to 6' 7" Brookstone TE Brian Vogel (committed to Alabama), Landmark controlled the line of srimmage on both sides of the ball and held a lead for nearly three quarters. Landmark QB Carson Barnett connected with Landmark WR Robert Trotter (both juniors) for a 73 yard touchdown pass right before the half to give Landmark 17 to 10 halftime lead. As a punt return and kickoff returner and receiver, Trotter amassed about 170 yards in total touches. The defense for Brookstone, known to be a second half team, stiffened and held on to win. Just a view from the small school arena.

I think that Newnan may take all the marbles this year in AAAAA. Alec Ogletree, Newnan's strong safety who has already committed to UGA, is perhaps the best strong safety to ever have come down the pike in Georgia high school football. He is ranked by some as the #2 strong safety in the country.

Buck Godfrey continues to put out good teams at Southwest DeKalb, despite the fact that M. L. King, Stephenson, and Miller Grove have been built in recent years and have drawn away many skilled athletes from SWD. "Buck" (as so many refer to him) is a quality person, coach, and scholar. He teaches English at SWD, and he is determined each year to help his seniors to get scholarships so that they can continue their education.
