H.S.Coach if he signs with the padres thats means it will probably be a long term contract.Which means that he cnts just a year later up and say “This baseball stuff sucks i wanna go back to UNC “That would be a breach of contract.As a H.S. Coach you of all people should be encouraging kids to stay in school and get a degree other than “Hey take the money and run”.If thats your view you express to your players let me know what school you coach at so i make sure i dont sent my son there to play lol.My dream for my sons are to go to college get a degree then if they are good egnough go to the pros if he gets hurt he needs something to fall back on.That 6.5 million will be 12.5 million if he waits and do the right thing and go to college otherwise why send your kid to high school if you have no plans for him to go to college just work with him on baseball and dont go to school lol.Good luck DT get a degree you worked hard for it the money will be there

hey bill what do u mean tarholes? wtf is a tarhole?lol UNC is a great school good football and baseball program and i dont need to talk about basketball Since we are national champs in that sport.Football aint as strong yet but butch Davis will turn it around like he did at miami.DT will be a great QB here as well as get a degree then make twice as much.He is alredy rich the money is there he can get that later.And by the way he picked UNC so he must not think too bad of the crappy tarholes lol.Good luck DT on whatever you choose but hope to see you throwing touchdowns at UNC next year

Hunting Dog…stop being so anal. flop, fail, isnt happy, changes his mind, gets cut, gets injured, stinks, bombs…get the point…its all teh same…Football will still be there for him to return too, and possibly even success. There have been a slew of individuals that make the adjustment. We saw one last night. The Dixon kid who played for PGH last night was a star centerfielder who couldnt hit a curve ball. Now look at him!

17 years is just too young for a multi-million dollar contract.
By leaving college, he is going to miss out on an experience he will never have again. The money will be there after college, but the college experience will not be there after the money.

You people are dumb. Donovan Tate went to UNC for BASEBALL. I’m sure football was part of why he went there, yes he was going to play, but I’m pretty sure he committed for baseball. He is a stud and yes he probably won’t ever step foot back on campus.

I don’t think that football is too rough for him. He is a multi-skilled athlete. He could play football, but he obviously is a little better at baseball. Good luck with everything.

I’m from Cartersville and have had the pleasure of watching DT play the last few years. Although he is an excellent football player, I have to say that a big contract in MLB is the way to go. There are no guarantees in either, but by signing with MLB his future is secure. If he had stayed in college (and I am a huge CFB fan), he may or may not have succeeded, then if he did he may would have had a chance to play in the NFL. A long road with no guarantee’s, where in baseball his financial future is secure. And as H.S. Coach pointed out, he can always come back to college football if baseball doesn’t work out. Smart move..

A couple of brainless responses above, especially dgroy and H.S. Coach. The kid is 17 years old and a few days away from making more money signing this one contract than you, or I, will make in our lifetime. You guys have issues that can only be resolved with a lobotomy.

Donovan, good luck in all that you do. You’ve had to make some pretty big decisions for being as young as you are.
