Georgia landed some secondary help over the weekend. Another high-profile player could be on the way.
Cornerback Cody Riggs of national powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale told Gridironstuds.com that the Bulldogs are leading on his list of schools to consider. Rivals ranks him No. 3 in the nation at his position; Scout ranks him No. 7.
Click on the link and you can check out what Chad Wilson of Gridironstuds has to say about Riggs and what Riggs had to say about why a school like Miami had no chance with him.
College sports recruiting news for UGA, Georgia Tech and colleges nationwide. Countdown to national signing day.

Bring it on Cody. This is really great news, if he commits and is eligable, etc. A lot can happen between now and Feb., but it doesn’t change that I’d love to have such a highly touted recruit in our secondary. Really says a lot to me that we continue to recruit such highly talented young men. Mark Richt and company are very well respected and it shows. Now let’s go get that SEC and NC title!!! Go Dawgs

My bad ZERO scholarships to give. We currently have 83 on scholarship according to the breakdown on Scout.com. It looks correct. 13 of those are Seniors of which is included Kris Durham who will take a medical redshirt, so 12 graduating seniors. 83-12=71 + 14 recruits = 85 (shcolarship limit).

Do not get caught up (or worry about) scholarship numbers. Leading up to signing day, this is a “moving” number. Best guess is that UGA signs 18 to 20 in Feb 2010.

We could have at least 1 or 2 players leave for the NFL draft plus there are at least 2 players who may graduate in December of 2009 or spring of 2010 who are not going to hang around for their last year of eligibility, so that could mean an additional 4 spots that might be available for the 2010 class.

rashad jones will go pro, probably one other player who has a breakout year will go pro too (maybe rennie?)
then there will be attrition of a few…leaving 5-6 more spots i bet

Relax….
You know that 1-4 underclassmen will leave early next year. You also know that 1-4 scholarship players will matriuclate from the program for some reason. And you also know that 1-4 of these committs will not qualify academically. Something tells me that the coaches are fully aware of the situation.

I agree with all the comments above. I’m just saying that from here on out you have to be careful with offers. Nothing is a given. It’s not a given that any players will turn pro or that any underclassmen will leave early, probable, but not a given. We don’t want to be like Saban and sign 20 and only have 14 to give.

What’s up with all the defensive backs committing to georgia? Oh that’s right. georgia’s defense is built around back peddling!
How else are they going to allow TWO backs to rush for over 100 yards and a high school offense to rush for 408 in one afternoon.
Maybe you guys should schedule Meadow Creek hs next fall!
Or maybe instead of recruiting all these blue chip high school prospects, you should schedule some of their old teams instead That way you can feel good about yourselves and your football program again.
At least until another 45-42 bitch-slap-smack-down.

St. Thomas, in recent years, has been a welcome ground for Notre Dame coaches and everything I have read on the kid has him favoring ND highly over all the other schools. Wow. How good is St. Thomas’ defense going to be this year. They have two of the best CB in the nation on the same team.

Just read the link. Sounds like he is more interested in Georgia than Notre Dame now. Also, you failed to mention all the nice things he said about Florida and that he will not make a decision until the end of the year. Your article made it sound like the kid was ready to commit to the Dawgs. Far from it. In fact, it sounds to me like Florida is still very high on his list, which suprised me becasue of all the top DBs that are already committed to Florida this year. Meyer did say that he wants to get a commitment from one more top corner, and this kid might be just that commitment at the end of the year. So don’t count your chicks just yet Dawg fans.

Coaches are saying we will sign 21. The 12 sr going, we always lose a couple to the NFL early, a couple are expecting to transfer or give up football all together. To me that means 16-18, but I am sure they know some things going on that I don’t.

Hey Brick,
I am like you, a math guy, and I look at all the offers and know we might have a half dozen more to committ and sign. But at DE alone we have offered already this many at least. Premeir schools and programs are startig to fill up fast and early. If a HS player really is interested in a particular school they might think about making a decision before all the slots are filled. Yep we would like to have them all but NCAA will not allow bu so many. Just ask Omar Hunter who ended up going to the gators (yep small g, no typo) cause the Dawgs had no more scholarships to offer. My understanding was he really wanted to be a Dawg at heart but waited a tad too long. Looks like a great class so far. Go Dawgs!

hey Yellow Fuzz just a question Do you play the game or does the team? You know nothing about the game because if you did these are 18-20 year olds whose main goal is to get a degree and possibly play in the NFL. I am a UGA fan you win some you lose some so Congrats on the 45-42 THUMPING as you call it of the Dawgs but really UGA gave the game away. Tech did play a great game they deserved it but no need to brag when you have won 1 game in 8 times just like us with UF. Paul Johnson is a great coach and will win a ton of games for GT but again until you put the jersey on and play for them shut your mouth I am tired of reading it. Tech will win 50% of the UGA/GT games now with Paul Johnson there until they let him go.

I like to watch College Football period and if we win great if not oh well some people take it too dang personal. Every season UGA has top talent and wins 8-10 games which is great in the SEC would I like a national championship yeah who wouldn’t but it takes a lot of luck, no injuries, and the ball/calls to go your way for 13-14 games in a row. UGA does great so has Tech so leave it at that and let the better team win.
