The word Georgia fans have been waiting to hear came in a noontime announcement Saturday at an Augusta restaurant: Junior college All-America safety Jakar Hamilton is committing to the Bulldogs, becoming the team’s 14th commitment from the recruiting class of 2010.
Hamilton, 6 feet 1 1/2 and 205 pounds, earned first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-America honors after recording 50 tackles, four interceptions and eight pass breakups as a freshman last season for Georgia Military College.
A graduate of Strom Thurmond High in Johnston, S.C., Hamilton originally had designs on attending South Carolina. But he failed to qualify academically and was advised to go to the Milledgeville school instead.
Auburn, Illinois, N.C. State and Tulsa also offered Hamilton, but he narrowed his choices to Georgia and Alabama as the recruiting process reached its conclusion. Three weeks ago, he decided it would be Georgia, but waited to make the announcement.
“Really, it was the coaches and the academics,” Hamilton told the AJC Saturday. “The coaches are great, the facilities are great, but the coaches really wanted to know me as a person. The fans of Georgia are just ridiculous.”
When Georgia offered to pay for his master’s degree as well, Hamilton was sold.
“Once they told me that if I went pro and wanted to come back and get my master’s that they would pay for it, that showed me the character of their coaches right there,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton gives the Dogs their third defensive back from the Class of 2010, along with Newnan’s Alec Ogletree and Derek Owens of Jacksonville, Fla.
“I think they’re going to get not just a total player but a total person, the kind of guy who you want to be in your program,” GMC coach Bert Williams said. “He clearly gets it done on the field. He’s got the tools to be an outstanding player, whether it’s the SEC, ACC, Big 12 or whatever. He’s got a good work ethic, he’s mentally tough and he’s a competitor. He does everything you want him to do — he’s worked hard in the classroom, not just to get by but to excel.”
The fact that Georgia wears red and black didn’t hurt. “Red and black, those are my favorite colors,” Hamilton said.
Turning down Alabama was tough, though.
“It was hard to tell Coach Kirby [Smart, the defensive coordinator],” Hamilton said. “Alabama’s a great school with great coaches. I can’t take nothing from them. So big ups to Alabama, I want them to have a good season.”

Is it me, or does UGA have a top recruiting class year in and year out and still somehow manage to have 3 losses almost every year? Next year will be 4 or 5 losses. LSU, Bama, and Florida are a given, and as much as yall will argue, you will lose to tech also. Good job on reeling in another top recruit who will execute mediocrity under Richt and staff and never live up to his expectations out of high school.

hey Just Wondering…
Clearly you are a North Ave Nerd although you lack the cojones to actually stand behind your team. At least 10 wins 6 of the last 7 seasons and a SEC championship is hardly mediocrity. What has your team accomplished recently? (1 win over your rival in the last 8 tries doesn’t count).
This guy was recruited specifically to come bust up your gimmick offense. A strong safety has been vital to UGA’s D over the years but has been markedly absent the past two, likely contributing to your fluke win last year. 2010 is looking incredibly strong and it’s still July. Who do y’all have coming in?

Good think them Yellow Jackets don’t worry about interceptions and safeties!!!!!
I think are the one’s who’ll need to worry about interceptions…Wait, there goes Burnette with another pick 6!
You UGA fans crack me up! With every new recruit it’s you all start the same ole’ BS. Here comes another Greg Blue! The last good DB from UGA was Champ Bailey and he’s getting ready to retire from the NFL because he’s old! No great defensive backs want to play for Willie “modern day Bill Lewis” Martinez.
The real safety in the state of Georgia is number 1 Morgan Burnett. He had over twice as many interceptions over this clown last year and one pick 6 against Stafford. He did that in a real conference….what a joke….This clown UGA picked up only had 4 interceptions playing for a Military College…BWAHAHA ……yeah boy let me tell ya….a real Greg Blue…..

“A physical safety that excels in run support, Hamilton is further ahead in attacking the line of scrimmage than he is in pass protection sets early in his junior college career. He has very good closing speed and can chase down offensive players that have broken containment, or he can turn around a running back that’s broken through the front seven. Extremely tough player that looks the part of a run supporting strong safety – Scott Kennedy ”
Why would we care about protecting against the pass against Tech. You act like you have a quarterback or something….ALL YOU DO IS RUN.

So happy to hear this. It’s great to be a Dawg. I officially challenge the UGA coaching staff to bring home a national championship in the next 2 to 3 years. (IF NOT SOONER)

Ohhh….and we are real scared you have run support safety……I wonder if he will look as confused as the rest of your Willie Martinez safeties looked last year.
I am guess probably. Willie Martinez= UGA’s Chan Gailey and Reggie Ball….and boy do I love it! How’s that medicine taste Dawgs……

just wondering-
Your an idiot. Mediocrity? Are you serious? First, yes we lost to bama and the gaytors this past fall. Bama hasn’t done anything done anything since 1999 minus 2005 and 2008. We beat Fla last year. We’ve beaten tech 7 of 9 this decade. Haven’t lost to Lsu since 2003. Mark Richt has lost maybe 5 away games in his 8 years in athens and has won on an average of ten games each year so how is that mediocrity. Second, you actually hate UGA that much to come on a blog and talk trash about a kid that wants to succeed in the classroom as much as on the field? You have no class. But that’s the difference between me and you, I have class and I know what I m talking about.

Man I can’t wait until November. We had 7 nice, peaceful years….to the point where I could really care less about the Tech game because it was a foregone conclusion. The bees sneak out 1 game, by 3 measley points, and somehow they are now a force to be reckoned with because they have Josh Nesbitt the pocket passer, who apparently is a little slow learning the playbook but is catching on, and the “guru” Paul Johnson who is so smart he actually has the ability to read the other coach’s mind. Please. There is so much fun football to look forward to in the meantime, but post-turkey day Saturday is going to be more fun than it has been in years. And all of you Techies will deserve all of the the brutal torment you are going to receive in retaliation for the “45-42!” .. and “hope they can stop the run” garbage we have had to endure for the past year. ONE game guys….you won ONE game, by 3 points.
Here is what is says on Tech’s website about getting seats to this year’s games:
GT Yellow Jackets stadium seats cost $42 per seat reserved. PLEASE NOTE If you place your order after 12:00 NOON EST on a Thursday prior to a home football event, your stadium seat will not be installed until the following home game.
So make sure you get your order in before noon on Thursday folks….

No surprise. We were recruiting heavily Jakar and Jarrick Williams(no. 4 rated safety in the country and #2 overall prospect in Alabama). We knew once we secured Jarrick a week or 2 ago that it was gonna be really tough to get Hamilton to come over also. Georgia was obviously a better choice for him.
Very good pickup for the dogs.

It is funny how Georgia fans have a new #1 “hatin” team in Tech since Georgia can’t beat the real them they really hate, the Gators. But is only takes one year in ten for the hatin to change its course. So, Dawg fans, you only have 8 or 9 more years to wait. By the way, you want to talk safeties, take a look at the current Gator roster and the commitments already for this year to the Gators. That is scary. And, we don’t have to wait for the future for a gread defensive backfield…the best DB’s in the country already reside in Gainesville. And, to answer the question one more time, this is NOT a Dawg blog. It is a recruiting blog. Just yesterday, there was a story about a Florida recruit and every Gerogia bloggers this side of Waycross was on it. So shut up about this being a Georgia blog site. The AJC cover the south like the dew still, bullpups!

Most of the hate UGA crowd that post on this site, I will guarantee NEVER,EVER attended any school, not even some third rate JC somewhere.
They berate UGA out of jealousy, boredome and ignorance. UGA is so widely respected for all sports ( except basketball ) and they are jealous. Besides, it is a fabulous college experience to attend at UGA in Athens > They would not know. They could not score the appropriate SAT, even though it is easier than when my class took it in the late 60s. They made is simpy for the whimpy obamarons of today.
As only ONE example, college is about academics, so with that in mind, what school has two Rhodes Scholars in the last year or so on campus? Hmm?? How many championships has UGA won just in the last 5 years???? Hmmm?

Tide rising, u r a typical bama fan that cant admit that the mighty saban gets outrecruited by Richt time and time again. Maybe u should do a little research before u come on a UGA site and spew about how alabama wasnt a good choice for this kid. Or maybe u should accept the fact that UGA has commitment from the #1 safety in country in Olgetree, who bama wanted much more than this kid from Alabama. Funny how UGA gets #1 safety, yet the kid still wants to go to UGA, but Bama gets the #4 safety, and the kid shouldnt want to go to Bama. U r in a dream world, and you are out of touch with reality like all Bama fans. Being in denial is something that all Bama fans have been the past decade. Bama has won nothing this decade, no SEC titles, no BCS titles, and Oh i forgot one butt whipping in the SECC game in ten years. Very impressive even for Bama fans that are in denial. The thing that I find funny is that GT and Gator? fans keep up with UGA recruiting more than most DAWG fans. As soon as a young man makes his decision, GT and Gator fans start posting negative blogs. They are truly hopeless. They are totally obsessed with UGA. I suggest they get a life. I could care less who signs with GT or UF. They realize that UGA is on a roll recruiting and they know that the old “Mo” is on the side of UGA and that scares them. I know that they are to pathetic to admit that, but it is true. Why else read read UGA recruiting blogs on a daily basis? In terms of this young man, I am very impressed. He struggled with academics in high school. As he matured, he realized the importance of academics and adapted his focus. Great story and young man. Welcome to the family.

JDB and TRUE FAN- So i dont stand behind my team??? Thats why ive been a tech fan from birth and i stuck be them during the 6 loss seasons and the four years of nightmare we had from reggie ball… Im actually not a “nerd” from north avenue, Im not smart enough to have gone to tech, but im a loyal fan who will stand by my jackets through the good and bad. And yes, true fan, mediocrity is a ppreseason rank of 1 followed by 3 losses. AND losing to a team that was predicted to go 3-8. Oh and if you want to talk about class, tell the rest of your fellow uga bums to get off the tech recruiting blogs talking about the tech recruits being trash and sucking and how uga wouldnt give them the time of day because they only recruit “five star athletes”. Looks like a bunch of 2 an 3 star athletes got it done in athens last year. But it wont be like that for long… paul johnson is getting some solid recruits this year.

Georgia’s signing so many high school superstars, I actually feel sorry for florida, tennessee and tech in future years. These dawg teams will be loaded with talent—look for some big things in the next few years, including SEC and national titles, and the beginning of domination of florida and tech—their fling is over.

Tech fans are scared, and they should be. Their paranoia and frustration is reflected in their increasingly histrionic posts in the AJC, as evidenced by the above. You see, they know what’s coming. The once-in-a-decade planetary alignment that allows Tech to beat Georgia has ended, and the order of the universe will be restored this fall.
Keep right on posting your 45-42 score. Maybe you can have a t-shirt made to go with that ring. It’ll keep the memory alive until the next Tech win over Georgia–in 2018 or so.

That tech win over a flat, overconfident UGA team was a fluke, and will not happen again for at least 10 years–mark it down! Ga will beat tech this year in an easy blowout, and head to the BCS while tech goes to another minor bowl somewhere named after a farm animal or weed cutter. The Dawgs will be winning it all soon with all this talent. Tech will be lucky to win 7 games this year. Georgia 45 Tech 20

Take all of the trash talk away from the outside teams and take a close look at our program. Richt had better find a Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator to support his recruits! UGA year in and year out has some of the best tallent in the nation sign on to play ball at UGA. Why then can’t we win the National Championship?? History has taught us that a GREAT coach can take average tallent and win championships. Why then can’t UGA win championships with the quality (above average) atheletes they successfully recruite every year?? Take a good look at your face. Seems the lines look out of place. If you look closer it’s easy to trace the tracks of failure!

Great pick up Dawgs. Funny to see all the bammer haters on here after a kid chooses to go to a better school. We can’t help that the state of bammer produces a hand full of D1 prospects, and are not loyal to your institution. Outside the state of bammer you don’t find that many that want to pledge their commitment to osaban and the crimpson tahd. You bammers need to start raising some ball players over there, instead of relying on other states like tennersee. Your 5A football is equivalent to our 2A here in Georgia, which equals very weak athletics. Wasn’t it last year that you beloved Hoover got royally spanked by South Georgia Camden 44 to 10. Yeah, you need some Georgia or Florida genes over there really bad to compete in the SEC these days. GO DAWGS!!

Tech fans are pretty funny. Tech runs a high school offense, extremely poor execution in the 3rd quarter cost us the game. If our guys hadn’t thought it was over and let down at halftime it would have been, but to Johnson’s credit he kept his kids heads up, we regrouped too late. Gator fans,
I don’t know how ya’ll do it, but can that conference schedule be any easier for ya’ll this year? You get Alabama and Ole Miss off the schedule, you get a bye week before LSU? UGA needs to hire whoever puts that schedule together. It’s almost a virtual guarantee that you’ll make the SEC Championship. However….
The Gators with that easy schedule might succumb to what I call ” the USC effect”. When I look at USC’s schedule every year I think to myself ” there is no way they should lose a single game!”, but yet the last 3 years they always lose to some team like Oregon State, or UCLA, and I’m like “what the hell?”.
The honest truth is that Florida has a great football team this year. But after seeing the 2007 New England Patriots( possibly the greatest NFL team EVER even with a loss in the Super Bowl)lose,I will never again say that a team is unbeatable. The Greastest College football team I’ve ever seen is 1995 Nebraska( the team that beat the Gators 62-27 in the National Title Game). They were as close to unbeatable as it gets. The Gators aren’t quite to that level yet, but we’ll see how this season plays out.

Hey Truth,
It won’t matter if our coach bails dude. We will just pick up another great one and pick up where we left off bitch slapping the dogs 17 out of the last 20 years (or something like that). I don’t know for sure but I KNOW YOU DO LOLOLOLOLOL! We are more concerned with BCS bowls and national championships and national TV than your Outback Bowl aZZES. You’re a damn gymnastic school so please stay off the blogs about major sports. And come to think of it college baseball is not a major sport of it would be on National vs regional TV. HAHAHA. Sorry to burst your bubble dude. You are certainly 2nd class.

So talk your smack all you want to right now in july but come october you will not be talking anymore. I believe Georgia will beat florida again for the second time in 3 years and go on to win the SEC championship and the BCS national championship too this year…you better mark richt it down.

Hey Truth,
I’m posting again. Read it in an hour after you finish my last post (5 minutes ago). Need I remind you that you lost to Georgia Tech last season? That ACC powerhouse than roughs up on the likes of Jacksonville State and Carson Newman? At least Ole Miss was good. LOL. I think they had 3 guys drafted in the 1st round. You suck worse than Tech. O and I’ll wager $100 right now that we hang a half hundred on the dogs in Jacksonville this fall (and would have last year but OUR coaches have class. I’ll wager $200 that you only score one touch down from a play from scrimage. You know why? because we own you and you know it and we own your football team and every last one of them know it too. That’s why your winning a lot of FL hs recruits this year. But just the ones that are good on paper. They will fit right in at your over rated over hyped gymnastic college which has the 2nd or 3rd best football team in your backwoods state. You can’t even manage your drinking water how the hell can you try to tell a Florida fan ANYTHING? Get off this blog and go to http://www.gymnastictickets.com

Better yet, why don’t you sit in front of me in Jacksonville this fall? LOL. You remind me of the georgia dude that got cold cocked on his way to the parking lot. LOL.

What’s up with all the safeties committing to georgia? Oh that’s right. georgia’s defense is built around back peddling!
How else are they going to allow TWO backs to rush for over 100 yards and a high school offense to rush for 408.
Maybe you guys should schedule Meadow Creek next fall!

Maybe instead of recruiting all these blue chip high school prospects, you should schedule some of their old teams as well! That way you can feel good about yourselves again. At least until another 45-42 smack down.

Jakar will be a great contribution to any team. He has been given favor and has worked hard to get where he is. No he didn’t make the grades when he should have, but u don’t know the details of that.
I hope ur lives are lived to perfection, which we all have flaws. Instead of encouragement, u put down. Instead of encouraging this young man, u make mockery. This young man can read and if you listen to him speak, he does it very well. People who can’t give others encouragement and good compliments have internal regrets of their own. The bad language tells me what kind of person u really r. This kid doesn’t know u and it’s a good thing he doesn’t. U spend time putting him down because he didn’t choose the college of ur choice. Guess what, it’s not about u. Ur school probably don’t even know who u r. Don’t be mad because this yong man has alittle spotlight. Be glad for him in his moment. All good things and people have their spotlight in life. May b u r sour because u didn’t do what u should have when ur time came. Take time to find out Jakar’s struggle before u belittle him in public. Put the shoe on ur foot and c how u would like it. U r adults and should act according. I c why u use a cover up name. I wouldn’t want the people I know to know that i could act in such a childish manner. In the future, when a recruit chooses a college, be glad for him/her. U ranting and raving and making urself sound foolish for a college that only recognize u by number only. The more u talk against this kid, n my belief, God’s going to be on his side.
