Gators go hard after LaGrange QB

LaGrange coach Steve Pardue says Florida is pushing hard for Grangers quarterback Jamius Gunsby.

“Florida likes him as much as anybody,” Pardue told the AJC. The Gators are contending with Kentucky and Troy, who likewise have offered him — which hardly sounds like a fair fight.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Gunsby may look too big to be a QB, but that didn’t stop Kentucky from putting 6-4, 285-pound Jared Lorenzen — nicknamed “The hefty lefty” —  under center from 2000-02. Gunsby is supposed to make an other trip to Florida at the end of the month.

Paddy – UF finished ahead of UGA in the rivals recruiting rankings 3 of the last 4 years. The year they didn’t (2009), UF still had a very small class and had a higher star average.
Besides, didn’t UGA consistently out-recruit UF in the early 90’s? That really paid off well.

I read that the Gators are recruiting this kid as a non-QB. More like tight end/slot receiver type player. So he might go to Troy where he can play QB. Paddy, check the commitments over the past 3 years and even this year so far and don’t blog with such stupidity in the future. It is like saying winning the SEC and national titles 2 of the last 3 is no big deal. Book it. Florida will out recruit Georgia this year and every year. Then the Florida coaches will out coach the Georgia coaches every year till the end of eternity. Go Gators.

Gaytors are the new age yankees fans. Can you be any more bigheaded. why dont you look up florida athletics pre spurrier. You guys were the biggest joke in the conference. We still hold the overall record against you so dont think you are a better “dynasty” you bunch of jean short wearing nancy boys.

That’s weird….Scout and Rivals list the kid at 6′3 185….he looks more like 6′3 150 from his profile pic!

Sounds like UF see athlete first, QB second. But you never know. We all know that 5 star and 4 star sometimes means absolutely nothing. If Florida sees something in the kid, then good for him, I wish him the best. And to the idiots out there, the only reason this kid would choose UK (which is greatly improved) over UF is because he isn’t sure he would ever find himself off the bench at UF.

Enjoy the summer.

Gators will do anything to recruit anyone from the state of Georgia since we seem to own the state of Florida in bringing in the best players next year…what you are seeing folks is the beginning of the end to the Gator dynasty…its back to the 70’s and prior to that when the Gators really sucked…Go Dawgs

If the Gators want this guy, they obviously think they can use him somewhere; and if he’s good enough for them, he’s good enough for anyone else.. Troy, Georgia, or anyone in between.

That said, these smug and arrogant Gator bloggers make me crazy, . The only way I can put up with it is knowing that most of us Dawg fans had the same exact attitude in the 70s and 80s when the Dawgs dominated. Ive only missed 5 ga/fla games in 35 years, In the 80’s, most years we would just laugh at the pathetic Fla fans all the way out of that dump called the Gator Bowl. But now things have changed and until the Dawgs can play the gators even up over a several year period, there isnt a whole lot we can come back with. We just need to strap it on and beat those stinkin lizards at least half the time, thats all. And it needs to be in Jacksonville..we need to quit whining and start winning.

p.s. I met some stinkin Gator fans at Ginny Springs, FL last weekend on a dive/camping trip..Now I know: a/ that place is way too cool to be so close to Gainesville and b/ there ARE some good Gators out there..I knew they had to be somewhere..just didnt know I had to look in an underwater cave to find them :) .

The difference between Florida and Georgia is simple. Georgia rushes the field after they score a touchdown. Florida rushes the field after they win National Championships.

I doubt Florida is going to offer another QB (as a QB) until Scroggins makes up his mind later this month. To do so would send a signal that they have given up on him.

dont be a gator hater…….if the guy does not go to UF it’s because they are already LOADED!!!!! with talent and he proably will warm the bench. We should be talking about who is going to be #2 at the end of the season since we all know who will be #1……in Tebow we trust…..

I’ve seen this kid play quite a bit over the last two years and he’s a great player. Great size and speed for a kid of his size. He was playing WR when I first saw him and then moved to QB midseason two years ago. I also watched UGA commit and Newnan High School safety, Alec Ogletree almost dislocate his head from his neck last year in the season opener. Newnan opens up with LaGrange again this year, I would advise anyone that’s looking for a good hard hitting football game with passion and D-1 athletisim make a trip to LaGrange Aug. 28. Gunsby vs Ogletree should be fun to watch.

NOBODY sees and develops talent better than Urban Meyers staff. I was mad a couple of years ago when they “wasted” a scholarship on little known, little recruited, and just plain little Brandon James, who nobody else seemed to want and now he’s a national champion All American returner. Same with Terron Sanders, a DT from the Bradenton area who one local HS coach told me would never be an SEC player. Then Mickey Marotti got ahold of him and turned him into a beast! Had a great year last year (remember his fumble recovery and hits on Stafford last year?) and now looks like he will have a monster year this year. Dallas Baker and Louis Murphy were both a joke when Meyers staff arrived. Jarvis Moss couldn’t get on the field. Derrick Harvey was an underachiever. They all now own those shiny rings that say “National Champion”. And I can go on and on…

Dawg Pound – “The Gators are falling fast!!!”? You been in MJs medicine cabinet? Been grazing on jimsonweed to cure your irregularity due to the lack of fiber in your puppychow? If 2 out of 3 BCSNC be fallin’….I hope we keep up that kind of falling!!!!

According to Jamius is number 12 on the Gators QB wish list, but he does have an offer.

I am amazed at the Puppy fans. Why can’t you just tip your cap and keep your traps shut. The Lizards are defending National Champs. I know you hate hearing it but that’s the reality. Who cares where you get the kids from…better coaches make them better players..i.e. Urban Meyer. When you win two in a row against the Gators give me a call. But until then, keep your whiny traps shut. Go back to your trailers, turn on Hee Haw, crack open a Keystone light and make out with your sister.

I agree that Coach Meyer is the best in the business at analyzing talent and then selecting it. He’s a genius it seems.

True Dawg Fan

July 12th, 2009

I would assume that Gator and Dawg fans would love their teams if they both lost every game – every year. A true fan loves his team no matter if they win or lose. I played division 1-aa football in college and started all 4 years, I read the comments here and realize that you either never organized sports or you did and didn’t learn anything from it.

I do know that team success and peril is cyclical. A team is up for 3 to 5 years, then they are down. Coaching changes have the biggest effect, and that can be a defensive coordinator or line coach not just a head coach.

Florida and Tech can beat Georgia every year as far as I am concerned. Even as a kid that grew-up wanting to play for the instate bulldogs. Outside the lines of the game, I realize I learned more off the field than on the field. I love the game, but fan’s are crazy around here.

Go dawgs..and best of luck to everyone’s team.

When you win as much as UF has the past 10 years, your rivals can’t take it. They hate you.Its tough in the SEC.But I hope the Dawgs, Vols,War eagles, Tide,Tigers and all the others get competitive. As for me I LOVE to see the underdogs, Vandy, Miss. St. Kentucky, ect. sneak up on the big bad powerhouses and kick their BUTTS.

Why the slur at UK, I think that for all the five stars Meyer gets UK has more QBs in/around the NFL than Florida, where is their last NC QB? UK uses a pro offense and has very good coaching at the QB position, Tebow is a great athlete and is a winner but it isn’t even certain what position he will play in the pros yet. UK probably has the best pair of QBs coming in the SEC this year, and there is a reeason for it.

Even if we don’t win it all this year we should be real good again and gators know how to deal with pressure for sure. Coach must like this kid because he has someting to contribute at QB or not.Bulldog fans are just eating sour grapes again…

This guy is NOT that good trust me I played with him. TERRIBLE attitude and TERRIBLE work ethic. Doesn’t do anything in the weight room and fails all his classes. Purdue puts “favorites” in college and usually sends them only to UK. Gunsby cusses out his coaches and they do NOTHING about it. Will enjoy to see how long he lasts wherever he decides to go; should be rather funny!
